Bursting out of the house into the rain, I realized that the atmosphere had become darker. Another electrifying lightning zipped across the dark clouds, causing a scream to escape my lips.
“C’mon!” Alpha Kilhan yelled in excitement as if he was inured to the loud, crashing thunder.
The rain beat my skin so hard, I could hardly move. With my eyes squinted, I watched Alpha Kilhan spread out his arms and swirl.
“Join me!” He called out again, stretching his hands towards me. With a grin, I nodded, finally letting go. I ran towards him at full speed, and he hastily lowered himself, ready to receive me.
I jumped into his arms and he lifted me from the ground, swirling me in the air.
“Alpha Kilhan!” I giggled hard as I could hardly see a thing. “Hold on, I can hardly breathe!” I cried as I could feel my heart thumping against my chest violently.
It was still raining heavily, our ears filled with its sound and our noses with its earthy smell.
He placed me on the ground and wrapped his arms around my waist. We could barely look at each other’s faces because of the rain dripping down our eyelids.
“I… I think I’m cold!” I uttered in a loud voice as I felt my lips shivering.
“Me too!” He answered, and we broke into laughter again.
“Your hair! It’s all wet.” He reached for my soaking wet hair and tucked it at the back of my ear.
“You’re so beautiful, Jessica.” He cupped my wet face and caressed my cheeks with his thumb. Smiling heartily, I felt my cheeks flush.
That was one reason why I loved him so much. The way he always threw compliments at me, and they get me every damn time.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked, his slightly opened eyes falling to my shivering lips.
“I think I need something warm on them right now.” My voice vibrated as I spoke. He smiled as he closed the little gap between us.
In no time, his lips caught mine, and just like I expected and wanted, they felt so warm on my lips, making me feel so good and warm.
I slid my hands to the back of his neck, pulling him closer as I craved more warmth. His hot tongue slid into mine, searching my mouth like he had lost a precious stone in it.
“Uhm.” I moaned softly, pressing my body against him. At this moment, we both forgot that we were still in the rain as we were caught in our own beautiful world.
And just as if the earth knew we were enjoying the moment, another bright, flashing lightning lit up the sky like fireworks. It was so bright, I could see it from behind my closed eyes.
In terror, I broke the kiss and cuddled into his arms. “Another thunder!” I yelled fearfully, burying my head in his chest.
In haste, I felt his large arms wrap around me, his hand on my ear, trying to prevent me from hearing its loud sound.
From underneath my closed ears, I heard the booming sound of the thunder, which made me jolt in his arms.
“It’s alright, baby. I’m here.” He rubbed my back, planting several kisses on my head.
“Can we go in now?” I muttered, raising my head to look at his face.
“We haven’t even danced.” He pouted.
“I’m so cold already. Look…” I stretched out my hands to him. “It’s so wrinkled already,” I told him, and he chuckled.
“Okay. But promise me we’ll do this again. And next time, we’ll dance.” He uttered.
I nodded without thinking because all I wanted was to get out of the rain and roaring thunder.
He grabbed my hand, and just like he had pulled me into the rain, he pulled me back into the house.
Our dripping clothes constantly wet the tiles as we made our way to my room. I looked down and laughter escaped my lips.
“Look! We are ruining the clean tiles!”
He also looked back and shrugged. “Don’t worry, they’ll clean it. Let’s get you out of that dress first.
As we made our way to the room, we couldn’t help but catch the attention of the pack members, including Betty. But we were both blithe about it.
‘I just had the best moment of my life, who cares about what they think?’
Getting into the room, we both began to get rid of our clothes. Afterward, we jumped into the bathroom to have a nice, warm bath.
He quickly prepared the bathtub with warm water and some bath oil, then held me into the tub. He sat behind me, while I rested my back on his chest.
“I am so happy.” He said, and I tilted my head so I could see his face.
“Really?”
“Yes, I am very happy. All I’ve ever wanted is beginning to happen. I have always seen couples on the television or the internet being all lovey-dovey in the rain, but this is the first time I’ve experienced it. Thank you so much, Jessica. For coming into my life.”
With a soft smile, I placed my hands on his thighs. “I’m glad you are my mate too, Alpha Kilhan. You get me so well.”
“If I don’t get you, how can we be mates?” He asked with a chuckle, planting another kiss on my head.
After our bath, I sat in front of my mirror and watched him dry my hair with a towel and hairdryer. I watched him in the mirror, and seeing how serious he was, made me admire and love him even more.
‘Who would have thought a man with the ‘title’ Alpha would be so soft? If only my father was like him…’
“What’s on your mind?” His voice jolted me out of my thoughts, and I shook my head.
“Nothing,” I answered, and he nodded and continued drying my hair.
‘Won’t you at least ask him who that man from earlier was? And why he was so angry after he left.’ Kiara uttered.
I had almost forgotten that I wanted to ask him these questions because I was having so much fun.
“Can I ask you a question?” I asked.
“Of course. Anything.”
“Who was that man from earlier? The one that came to see you in your office.”
I saw his countenance change immediately after he heard my question, which spiked my curiosity even more.
“Do we have to talk about this now?” His voice sounded prosaic.
“Yes, why? I’m just curious and I’d love to know. You claim to love me so much but you hardly tell me things.”
I moved my head from his hands and folded my arms, letting out a frown. Staring at me from the mirror, he smiled and shook his head.
“Fine. I’ll tell you.” He answered, and instantly, my face lit up happily.
“That was Jarius. He’s the private investigator working on my father’s case.” He answered.
“Oh! How is it going?” I turned to look at him. He heaved a sigh and moved back so he could sit on the bed. I took the hairdryer from him and climbed the bed too.
I knelt behind him and began to dry his hair too.
“It’s going well. More secrets are coming out, and they keep pissing me off. I just found out my father was cheating on my mother.”
“What?!” I exclaimed in shock.
“Yeah. I felt the same way too. Ashely Grayson is the name of the woman he cheated with and I suspect she may have had something to do with his death.” He responded.
“Ashley Grayson?” I asked as the name rang in my head, even Kiara kept repeating the name.
The name sounded so familiar and I tried recalling where I had heard it from, but I couldn’t remember. Kiara was also unsure why the name sounded so familiar.
“Yes. And my mother cannot know it is true. It would break her. She had always thought their love was special.” He answered, heaving another sigh.
“Well, I have more details on her and her family. This will help us dig deeper into the investigation and even know who to punish. If she did have a hand in his death, not even her family would be spared.” He added with tightened jaws.
I could hardly pay attention to any of his words after he mentioned that name.
‘Why does this name bother me so much? Who the hell is she? And why can’t I remember?!’
