Diane proceeded to leave Anna to her thoughts in the bathroom with the reminder that she was just behind the door waiting for her.
“Farm…” Anna muttered to her reflection as she flicked away the last traces of water on her fingers and then patted her face dry with a towel.
It was going to be okay. Yeah, 8t was.
She chanted in her head as she dried off her hands as well then walked out of the bathroom, Diane was on the bed, a bottle of orange juice in hand and an excited smile on her face.
“ You’re out!”
Anna forced a sweet smile as she made it to the bed. Diane was young and no doubt the treasure of the pack due to her status and apart from that, she was a nice girl, Anna didn’t want to hurt the girl’s feelings…she wasn’t the cause of her life problems and definitely wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
Anna decided to try her best to keep any of her ‘moods’ away from Diane just so she wouldn’t be upset in her presence.
Diane wore a sundress as well but just like the first time Anna had met the girl, she wore a bright color, yellow. A color that appalled Anna if she ever wore it but yet on Diane’s body, it brought out her beautiful petite figure, and her large green eyes and did wonders for her skin.
She looked like the sun in a normal body.
Diane was breathtaking!
“Are you ready? It’s going to be a long day,” Diane admitted.
Anna gives her a slow nod. She already knew it was going to be a long day.
Diane hands over the bottle of orange juice to her after uncapping it.
Anna collected it without hesitation and gulped down the contents of the bottle. Anna shocked herself by drinking so much, the freshness of the juice burst on her tongue and refreshed her in many ways, the sweetness something that almost brought tears to her eyes and a slight moan escaped her throat once she realized the bottle was empty.
Anna let out a sigh of relief, somehow feeling better than she had been only a few seconds ago.
“Wow,” She said. The awe in her voice made the young girl on the bed smile knowingly.
“It is said that all of our plants…and trees,” Diane gestured at the now empty bottle, “Is being blessed personally by the moon goddess herself,”
“Hmm?”
That was the oddest shit Anna had ever heard but yet somehow it managed to surprise her and make her believe it.
Diane nodded in confirmation.
“I’m sure you would’ve noticed by now that we are the pack created by the first wolf, the moon goddess’ first creation,”
Anna blinked continuously, staring at Diane like she had just grown a second head.
Ok.
That was a really big deal. She had only been guessing back then but she never imagined that it would actually be true!
The pack was created by the first wolf, she had read so many stories about the first wolf but never one about the pack he came from, the book access in Bullhorn was very much limited and most of the time she just took what she could reach for.
“The warlocks bless each one of our seeds and harvests each month and in turn, the Moon Goddess gives us more in abundance,”
Anna’s lips flattened with a frown and she fought the urge to roll her eyes.
“You really think she exists, don’t you?”
Diane looked at her with widened eyes like Anna had just made the craziest comment.
Diane stands up from the bed with a rather hasty movement and holds Anna’s shoulders dramatically.
“You don’t believe?” She asked, her mouth agape as she looked at Anna with an incredulous gaze.
Anna shrugged.
She didn’t believe.
She used to when she was younger but that was back when she considered the Wolf Spirit a gift from the so-called Goddess and didn’t see it as the curse it actually was.
Anna used to think that she was blessed with a special aura and ability by an omniscient being that gave a fuck about her.
Until Yaakov.
Until her parents’ betrayal sunk in and made her realize what a fool she had been.
“How can you not believe?” Diane asked wide-eyed.
She shook Anna by her shoulders like she was trying to shake the belief into her.
Anna found it funny, her lips stretched into a faint smile.
“You’re literal proof that she exists!”
The girl let go of Anna’s shoulders and began to wave her hands comically in the air.
“You have pure white hair and glowing freaking red eyes!”
“It might just be my genetics,” Anna retorted.
Diane pouted her lips with a playful glare.
“Come on Anna, you know I’m right,” Diane said, her slightly round cheeks puffed up and her green eyes glowed with playfulness.
“You can’t tell me you don’t think the Moon Goddess exists!”
“Oh I know she does,” Anna chuckled before her lips pursed into a wry smile.
“I just stopped believing in her a long time ago,”
Her voice was low as she spoke, her emotions being reflected in her tone. She stared down at her slipper-clad feet and sniffled.
“It would do you well to not put all your hope on a being that’s probably not as interested in our lives as she claims to be,”
Maybe it was the hint of sadness in Anna’s tone or how her expression slowly darkened altogether, Diane quickly changed the subject.
“We should be on our way!” She said abruptly.
“The mark would take at least a whole day to connect you with everyone properly so till then, you and I are going to be touring as much of the pack as we can today!”
The excitement In the girl’s voice was rather contagious.
Diane’s hair was tamed into a ponytail and it swayed left and right as she was practically jumping as she spoke.
“What do you think?” Diane asked, slightly out of breath but her eyes filled with eagerness.
Yes, her excitement was contagious but not for the reasons one might think.
Anna was excited to see more of the pack because, the more nooks and crannies she’d be introduced to, the easier it would be for her to slip out.
She looked forward to it.
