Chapter 38 - Tell me everything

Kaden.

“You want to see me?” Jojo asked, peeping through the door. I pushed the door and he stumbled backward. I held the door wider so I could get in.

He looked thin but was about six feet one, his eyes looked tired, and his beard hadn’t been shaved since he left the prison. His brown hair needs a haircut and the black hoodie and pants he wore, must have been on his body for days.

The small apartment didn’t look quite neat, there were leftovers on the table which hasn’t been cleared, and neither had the house been cleaned.

He had probably moved in without cleaning up the room. “You’re Jojo Oscar?”

“Yes, I am Alpha. I was told you were going to visit me, I didn’t know it would be this soon. I haven’t gotten a chance to clean up yet.” He reached out to take his clothes from the chair.

I remained standing. “There’s a coffee shop outside. We’ll discuss it there.”

He halted with the clothes in his hands. “I don’t know why you wanted to see someone like me.” He mumbled.

“Meet me outside,” I ordered.

“Yes, Alpha.”

I cleared my throat and walked out of his apartment.

I went to the coffee shop across the street and sat down, there were a few people in the coffee shop and I ordered a cup of coffee and ambled to sit close to the window. I glanced at my wristwatch and waited for him to come.

I gave him five minutes, though I didn’t say that to him. I folded my arms and waited.

My phone beeped with a message. “Are you meeting with Jojo, now?” The Gemma asked.

I picked up my phone from the table and sent a reply to him.

He was the one who told me about his whereabouts and informed Jojo that I would be coming to visit him.

My phone rang a moment later, and the Gemma was calling. I answered the phone and sighed.

“What is it?” I grunted.

“I was able to track down where Jojo was last seen,” Lucas responded.

I placed my elbow on the table and stared at the window. I saw him jogging towards the coffee shop, his hands were inside his hoodie pocket, and he glanced sideways if he was being watched.

“Where was it?” I asked.

“Close to the Baron’s house, that was the place he was last seen, he was around there and someone saw him. There were no CCTV cameras at the spot, and we were able to confirm that it was him because of a dash-cam from a car, that he had walked past.” Lucas muttered and took in a deep breath. “Should I still keep watching him?”

“Yes, more than ever. If he went to the Baron’s house. He will go there again, and I need to find out why he was going there.” I instructed and leaned my back against the chair. “And what business or relationship he has with the family.”

The door of the coffee shop opened, and I ended the car and sat up properly. He walked towards me pulled out a chair and sat down. Our coffee was brought to our table, and I took a sip from mine.

“Can I know why you wanted me to see me?” He uttered the moment he sat down, he grabbed the coffee and drank from it. I stared at him and huffed irritably.

“About the arson eleven years ago.” I began, he spat out the coffee he drank back into the cup.

I scrunched my nose and eyed him suspiciously.

He wiped the side of his mouth. “The former Alpha didn’t ask me anything about it and I have already confessed about everything that happened years ago.”

“Seeing you so quick to admit your crime is strange. You didn’t wait to be questioned before you turned yourself to the pack cops.” I folded my hands on the table.

“I wanted the punishment to be less that’s why I went ahead to confess to the Alpha and everyone that was the cause of the fire. I don’t know why we have to go back to what happened years ago, and I have already served my terms in prison. You’re wasting your time Alpha.”

“I want to know the truth.”

“That’s the truth, Alpha.”

I sipped from my coffee and shook my head. “Then why did you do it? Did you intend to kill her and her child?”

He looked around the coffee shop and rubbed his beard. “I can’t remember why I did that. I was drunk that day and set the house ablaze.” He answered and stared at the coffee cup. “It’s been over a decade. I can’t remember much that happened. I don’t think...” He sighed and gestured towards the waiter on her counter.

“I remembered why I did that.”

“You don’t remember the fire you caused that took a life?” I was getting upset by his nonchalant attitude.

“What about the girl, did she live or die?” he asked.

“That’s what you remember?”

“I want to look close to her, and there’s something about her, she should have been the first one I had killed.” He ordered another coffee took the one given to him by the Pack worker and dumped it in the trash can.

“Why did you do it?” I slammed my fist on the table. He looked interested.

“You can’t tell me why you did it, and you expect me to believe the lies you’re saying. You must have a reason why. How much do you need? I will send any amount of money you need.”

He was the one who knew Janine’s parents. He had seen her mother, and he had just talked about death. I have to believe that he knew something that he wasn’t saying.

“Name your price. I will give you an open cheque and you have to tell me everything that you remember.”
