Chapter 36 - Facing her fears

Janine.

I felt a finger brush my cheek and stirred. I heard Kaden chuckle and placed a kiss on my cheek and my lips. He pressed his lips between the valley of my breast and kissed right over my heart. I fluttered my eyes open and stared at him.

“Good morning.” He pulled his head up and muttered.

I smiled and ran my fingers through his hair. The sunlight was streaming through the window and right onto my face.

“I already prepared a bath for you.” He pulled me into his arms and carried me from the bed to the bathroom, my hands were around his neck.

The bathtub was filled with warm water, and Kaden placed me in it, he grabbed the shampoo and started to wash my hair gently.

I splashed the water from the bathtub on my body, while Kaden washed my hair. He lifted a finger on my jaw tilted my face upward and kissed me. He smiled in the kiss and used the water to rinse my hair.

He took me out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my chest, made me sit on the dressing table, and took the hand dryer to dry my hair.

His phone rang on the table, I stretched my hand and reached out to his phone.

“Put it on speaker.”

I put the phone on a speaker, the caller was Gemma Lucas.

“Alpha Kaden.” He said on the phone.

“Gemma, is there any emergency?” Kaden asked, standing behind me. He seems focused while drying my hair.

“Not at all Alpha, it’s about what you wanted me to look into, I have some feedback on Oscar Jojo.”

Oscar Jojo.

I remember the name, he was the one who had started the fire in our house years ago.

Kaden turned off the dryer and took his phone, he walked to the window with his back at me. I stared at his lean waist and bareback.

I was curious about what Gemma was talking about, I stood up from the dressing chair and walked to his wardrobe, I took out one of his shirts and wore them, it stopped on my mid-thighs, exposing my legs.

Kaden was still speaking with the Gemma on the phone, I sat on the bed and watched him.

He was wearing a black shirt, and I was left admiring his perfectly tone body, he didn’t have any scars, and his skin was flawless without any blemishes.

“…I will get back to you, and make sure you find who who he met the moment he was released. He must have met with someone.” He paused and exhaled. “…do not hesitate to inform me when the need arises, I want to be informed of everything that happened.”

“Yes, Alpha.” I heard Gemma’s voice before Kaden hung up on the phone.

He spun around, and was startled to find me seated close to him, he blinked his eyes and then smiled when I stood up and folded my arms in front of him.

His eyes roamed over my body, his gaze fell on my legs, he turned his face to the side, and I could see the corner of his lips spread out in a smile.

He tried to cover the smile on his face with his hand on his mouth and turned to me.

“You’re so cute even when you try to act angry.” He chuckled and tapped his phone in his hand. He cradles my cheek with his thumb.

“The Gemma, you heard him, Jojo was released from prison some days ago.”

My eyes widen.

He was released from prison.

“I have asked the Gemma to trace him down and inform me of his whereabouts. I will go meet him, and I don’t even think you’re going to come with me. I won’t let you get exposed to such danger.”

I tagged his arm.

He shook his head. “I can’t let you go with me, Janine. You should stay here, and I will be back to tell you everything that happened.”

He ambled to his wardrobe and took out his clothes. “I have to go, and I might be home late. You shouldn’t wait for me, and before I forget. Dale wants us to go to a concert together on Friday. Will you go with me?” He asked and pulled out a black sleeve from his wardrobe.

I nodded, as long as I get to spend time with him and I haven’t been to a concert before or anywhere except the Baron’s house and school.

I snapped my finger, at school.

I glanced at the clock, I was late.

Kaden looked at me, and his eyes went to the clock as well. “You’re late for school, I will drive you to school, and Mom informed me this morning that she has arranged everything you’ll need. You should get dressed if you don’t want to miss your classes.” He stated and wore his clothes. He came to me when he was dressed, and cupped my face. “You’ve been distant since we found you, I don’t want you to pull back from me, okay?”

I nodded, and he let go of my cheeks.

I walked out of his room, to the room designed for me opposite Kaden’s room, it was painted pink, and bigger than my room in the Baron’s house. The bed was soft and luxurious, and there was a gummy bear placed on it, the wardrobe was filled up with expensive clothes Luna bought for me.

My uniform was on the bed, it was a new one, with another backpack. I went to change them and put them on.

I packed my hair and stared at myself in the mirror.

My eyes went to the mark on my neck, it had changed overnight to a silver mark on my neck.

I rubbed my hand on it and smiled.

“Janine, you’re gonna be late.” Kaden knocked on my door.

I opened the door and came out, “I packed lunch for you, you can eat them at school.” He shoved a box in my face, I frowned at him.

He chuckled and took my hand, intertwined our fingers.

I followed Kaden to his car, he opened the car door for me, and his hand was above my head guiding me into the car. He walked around and took the driver’s seat.

He started the car and drove out of the mansion, he took my hand and placed it on his lap while he drove with the other hand.

I got to school, and Kaden waved at me before he left, the student saw us coming to us together and Kaden dropping me off at school.

“It’s Kaden.”

“Oh my goodness, he came with his mate.”

I heard whispers around me, that made my cheek heat up, all I had ever heard were hateful words and for the first time, everyone seemed to have something nice to say about me.

“Is that Janine, she looks so pretty.”

I turned and was heading to my locker when I bumped into someone.

She scoffed. “Look who decided to come to school, you weren’t dead after all.”

I lifted my head and stared at her.
