Chapter 61 DALIA
DALIA
When we get to the room where Sarah and Samara are, Sarah is the only one awake. She flinches when we open the door and walk in. She looks tense. She looks up to stare at us and I can see something in her eyes…. Fear.
She quickly stands up and bow down to Ezekiel who only gives her a nod. His face is strong with no trace of enthusiasm. I can see the Alpha King who is feared by many. I know he put on that front so that Sarah will know that he means business.
“Do you know where you are, Sarah?” I'm the first to speak up, my eyes looking her over. I'm sure she has figured out where she is.
“Yes. I'm in the Moonlight Pack house,” she replies in a whisper. I barely heard what she said.
“Do you know why you are here?” Ezekiel asks.
She glances at him as she shakes her head. “No.”
“Listen Sarah,” I start, minding business. “Maybe you don't know what happened before you found yourself here in this room but I'm sure you know why you are here.”
I can see her gulp down nervously. So I'm right. She has put the pieces together. Maybe she doesn't have memories of what happened when she was mentally unstable, but she knows all that happened before that. And she also knows that we know the truth now.
“We are going to tell you where we found you and your daughter and the state you both were in. After that you are going to answer all our questions,” Ezekiel says. His voice is so rigid.
“I'm sure you know who Annika is and she's the last person you met before you probably couldn't remember what happened next.” I look closely at her. I'm watching her every move and reaction. It will help when we start asking her questions.
Ezekiel said that we should be the first to speak with her, before we involve others. We don't want her to be overwhelmed. Probably in the morning we will tell others what we heard from her.
“You are probably one of them, so I wonder why she did what she did to you.”
“I don't know anything,” she quickly says. I can see the twitch in her eyes and the slight tremble of her lips.
“I didn't ask you if you know anything,” I smirk as I see her gulp down. She's so quick at catching up. She's definitely intelligent.
“Look here Sarah, we don't want to make this difficult. So you better cooperate with us.” Ezekiel gave her one of his intimidating looks. “What's your relationship with the witches who are probably working with the devils?”
“And what's your mission here?” After putting pieces together, I come to a conclusion that Sarah definitely entered into Jerald’s life for a purpose. I think Jerald is also in the dark like us. He's being deceived by her.
Whatever her mission is, it involves me. That's for sure. But what I want to know is the witches she's working with. Is it the ones that want me dead or the ones that want me alive.
“She asked you a question,” Ezekiel spat. Sarah finches as she starts breathing heavily. Her eyes flicker to Samara who's on the bed.
Something is wrong. Yes, she's supposed to be scared since her secret has been known but I think there's more to it.
“I don't know anything, believe me,” she cries “I don't know how you found out but I'm sure you now know that I'm a witch. Believe me I don't have any connections with other witches. I deceived Jerald. I deceived you and all the members of the pack because I want to live. I have been living among humans for years until I learn about who I am. I also learned about the witches, the werewolves and the lycans and also the enmity between them. I didn't want to get involved with anyone until I met Jerald and fell in love with him. I thought I would be able to hide my identity forever but be found out.” She knees in front of Ezekiel and put her palm in begging pose as tears flows down her cheeks. “Please, I want you to spare Jerald. He deceived you because he couldn't watch me die. He knew you won't spare me if you find out who I am. And for the Annika you mentioned. I don't know why she came to my house or what she did afterward.”
Sarah continues to cry and plead, but I still have the feeling that something is wrong. And of course she's lying. That female voice in that white room wouldn't tell me about her if she knows nothing. And I don't know why I feel like she wants to tell us the truth but something is restraining her.
I lean towards Ezekiel as I whisper. “Something is wrong. Let's leave her for now and come back later.”
Ezekiel nods, agreeing with my decision. I turn to Sarah. “Listen Sarah, I don't think you have any reason to lie to us because we already know the truth. If you cooperate with us, you will live. You, your daughter and your husband will live. We are going to give you time to make a decision.”
She bites her quivering lips as she glances at her daughter. She's scared about something. But what could she be scared of? There's no witch here that might probably kill her if she betrays them. Also her husband and her daughter are here. They are not in a place the witches can easily get them and kill them if she betrays them.
I'm about to leave with Ezekiel when something crosses my mind. There's only one thing that explains why Annika did what she did to Sarah. It's a punishment for betrayal. It means Sarah betrayed them or maybe about to do so.
So this is why I feel that Sarah actually wants to tell us the truth, but something is stopping her. What could that be? She's safe here or maybe she's not.
I turn to her and there's fear clearly in her eyes. She's scared of something or of someone but who could that person be? Is there a witch here?
I walk up to her and hold her trembling hands. She gulps down and looks into my eyes. She's shaking. I can feel it from touching her. And her eyes are pleading with me. She's trying to tell me something with her eyes.
“Sarah, don't be scared. Tell me…. Tell me what you are afraid of,” I murmur with an assuring tone. Instead of answering, she looks at her daughter who's still sleeping. And why is Samara still sleeping though? Isn't she supposed to be awake now? Why do I feel that something is wrong?
