Chapter 36 DALIA
DALIA
Jerald is arrested and is being questioned. He can't look any of us in the eyes, he looks ashamed. He isn't even resisting and answers the question.
“Why did you betray the pack?” That's the first question Ezekiel asks him. The tone in his voice shows how much he trusts Jerald.
When coming here, he keeps telling me how much he trusts Jerald and didn't expect the traitor to be him. He believes that there must be a reason Jerald did what he did. He has known Jerald for years, and because of how much he trusts him, he put the hospital responsibility in his hands.
He told me that Jerald has retired and Lena is now the head doctor. And it was not easy to tell him to retire. Even after telling him through the mind-link, he still plans to meet him face to face. Jerald is someone he respects and he wants to make sure he's okay with the retirement, though Jerald said he's fine with it.
“Believe me Alpha, I never wanted to betray my pack. I had no choice. The witch had me on hook.” Jerald murmurs as tears fall down his cheeks. I can feel his sincerity and now I'm curious to know how the witch pulled him to become a traitor to his pack.
“Then fucking tell us what happened.” Nikolai snaps. Creigh and Aaron are also here. Ezekiel wants this interrogation to be private and they are the only ones he can trust to be present. Lena wants to tag along but there's an emergency in the hospital.
“The woman I'm married to is not my mate. I never found my mate.”
“You mean Sarah is not your mate? But you told me she is and she's a human. You found her when you went for a medical.” Ezekiel chimps in. The look in his eyes shows that yet again, Jerald has broken his trust.
“Yes I did, but it was all a lie. We are not allowed to marry humans except they are our mate, but I loved Sarah. The only way to make her mine is to lie to you.”
“And what other lie did you tell me?” Ezekiel's voice is so cold. I can see the anger burning in his eyes.
“A lot.” Jerald mumble. He's yet to look any of us in the eyes. “After giving birth to our daughter Samara, I found out that she's a witch pretending to be a human.”
“What!” I think the exclamation comes from all of us.
“She's a witch and you hide it?” Nikolai asks, sounding so shocked.
“I love her and she promised me she's good. She doesn't know where other surviving witches are. She has been living alone all her life and blend with the humans.” So that's why he said that witches are not extinct when I told him about the curse.
“We decided to keep it a secret. Sarah was a good person. I saw the goodness in her. Everything was going well until two weeks ago. Sarah and Samara were kidnapped. When I came home that night, I couldn't find them. Later, I saw a strange woman in my living room. She introduced herself as Annika….. a witch. She said that my family are with her and if I don't do as she said she will kill them. And I shouldn't bother to tell anyone about this because my secret will be revealed and I know the consequences I will face and also my family will die. She said that she chose me because I'm an easy prey and can help her achieve her goal.”
So the witch's name is Annika. I glance at others. I'm sure they are gathering the pieces like me. The witch threatened Jerald with his weakness and used him.
“I don't know how she found out that Samara is a witch. And how she knew everything. She told me that she's here for a mission. That she's waiting for the goddess daughter who's my Alpha's mate. I was surprised because Alpha Ezekiel was said not to have a mate. I later found out that she wasn't in her real form. She killed a woman named Mrs. Adama and took her form. And she was living as her.”
Hearing Mrs Adam's name makes me clench my fist. I hate the fact that I wasn't the one that killed the witch. She deserves a slow painful death for causing Leon pain. And she died without telling us where she kept Mrs. Adams' body. What do I tell Leon. I asked Ezekiel about him and he said he's fine but no longer who he used to be. My heart breaks for that poor boy.
“She didn't tell me the reason she wanted the Alpha's mate.” Jerald continues “She said that my job is to do anything she tells me and not ask questions. After some days she told me that the Alpha's mate had arrived at the pack. That it is time for me to be useful to her. I thought she wanted Alpha's mate dead and she's the one that sent those creatures that attacked, I was wrong because even before Alpha mind-link me to come treat his mate. She already told me about the attack and that I should save Alpha's mate.”
If the witch wasn't the one that sent those creatures then who did? She's working with other witches who could have possibly sent the creatures and make her control them. Does that mean they have nothing to do with the creatures? I've thought about it. If she wants me alive. Why would she send those creatures to kill me? That clearly shows that she didn't send them.
I look at others. I'm sure they are asking the same question. This is something we need to find out. It shows there's a lot we need to know and it looks like Jerald doesn't know much. And I don't think he's hiding anything from us or lying. He seems sincere.
“She refused to tell me the reason she wants her alive or why she wants her in the first place. I know nothing about her plan. I only follow her orders. I only found out that she's working with the devils through the news.”
“If you had known, would you have chosen the pack over your family?” Ezekiel asks as he narrows his eyes at him.
Jerald remains quiet. I don't think he should be judged. A lot of people will make the same selfish decision as him.
“About the warriors and not giving them proper treatment. Was it intentional?” I ask. I suspected that something was wrong and now I want to feed my curiosity.
