Chapter 34 DALIA
DALIA
I don't know where I am. I have been walking for a long time and my legs are aching. It's like I can't see the end of where I'm going. The place is dark and cold, and for a reason I don't know I can see where I'm going, but the problem is that I don't know my destination. It's like I embark on a journey of no ending.
Is it hours? Days I've been walking? I don't know. All I know is that I've been walking non-stop for as long as I can remember.
The last thing I remember is fainting outside the barrier the witch created. The next place I see myself is walking through this cold dark valley, and I don't know how I got here. Sometimes I will feel warm, and sometimes I will feel cold. It's like there's something keeping me warm but I can't pinpoint what that thing is. Whatever it is, I want it to continue keeping me warm. I don't like the coldness. It bruises my skin.
I don't know how long I've been walking, but at some point I give up and sit on something I assume is a rock. My feet are hurting a lot, and I'm out of breath from walking for a long time. I need to rest. I close my eyes and rest my back on something I assume is a tree. I'm not feeling sleepy but I'm tired.
I stay like that for a while until I hear some hush voices. Are there other people here with me?
I stand up curiously going towards the direction where the voices are coming from. Since I've been walking through this dark valley I've not seen anyone. I feel excited hearing those voices. That means I'm not the only one here. Maybe I can still find my way back.
I approach the source of the voice. I found two figures. It looks like a man and a woman. I can't see their faces clearly, but I can hear their voices. Their voices sound familiar. I strain my thoughts trying to remember where I've heard the voices. As I'm trying to remember, their faces suddenly become clear for me to see.
I gasp loudly and quickly cover my mouth because I don't want them to notice my presence. But it seems they didn't hear me or maybe I wasn't loud enough.
It's Jerald and the witch. What's he doing with her? What business does he have with her?
“I want you to weaken the pack,” the witch says.
“How do I do that? I'm just a doctor.” Jerald grunts.
“And that's perfect,” she chimes in. “If an injured warrior is brought into the pack hospital, I want you to deliberately not treat them well. It will weaken them. When the warriors of a pack are weak, the pack too is weakened. I also want you to neglect other patients. You are the head doctor, no one will ask you questions.”
I cover my mouth not to gasp again. So it wasn't because he's getting old. He deliberately did not give those warriors and other patients in the hospital good treatment.
I wait for Jerald to say something but he doesn't say anything, rather I hear their voice from another direction. I quickly rushed there. I can still see their faces.
“Why did you tell me not to kill her and rather save her? You want her dead, right? I could easily inject something in her IV drip and make it seem that she died from the attack.” Jerald says.
“Why do you care? It's not like if I tell you to do it, you will have the nerves to do it. He's your Alpha's mate and you all fear your Alpha. I'm sure you wouldn't want to face his wrath.” the witch cuts in. “She's not to be killed. I just need to find a way to take her out of this pack with me. I need her alive.”
“Why do you need her alive?” Jerald asks. I pay extra attention because I also want to know why she needs me alive.
“That's none of your business. Your job is to do what you are told to do,” the witch replies sarcastically. Just like I thought.
They stop talking again and I hear their voice from another distance. This time, Jerald is on the phone talking to the witch.
“Dalia has found out about you. Apparently she can find out who places a curse on someone. I don't know how she does it, but they are coming for you. You need to hide.” Jerald whispers.
I knew it. My instinct was right. Someone tipped the witch off. I know that it's not because the witch is so smart. I know that no matter how smart she is, she can't know we were coming for her.
I can't believe it's been Jerald all along. He's a traitor. Ezekiel trusts him so much and he has to break his trust.
They stop talking again. I wait to hear their voice from another direction but I don't.
Wait…. Is that all I need to know? I don't think so. I strain my ears, but I still did not hear anything.
What the fuck! How can that be it? I want to know how the witch and Jerald meet. What Jerald knows and why he's helping the witch. There's a lot I want to know.
That's why I need to leave this place. I need to tell Ezekiel everything and then we can question Jerald. But the problem is that I don't even know how I can leave this place. I don't know where I am or where this path ends.
Or the reason what I saw just now was shown to me. I don't think I have an ability like this. Or do I? If I do, I don't think I know how to control it.
How did I get here, and how do I leave here?
There must be a way, I need to continue walking.
I continue walking the path when I see another figure. It's a woman. She turns and faces me. I quickly recognized her as the witch. What is she doing here?
She is smirking and she looks paler than she was.
“What are you doing here?” I ask icily.
She snorts. “I can't believe you survived that black magic. You are truly the goddess daughter. And now you are in my mind. You are really so desperate to know what I know. But fortunately, you can't see more than you have already seen. You won't know more.”
What does she mean that I'm in her mind? How did I get in her mind? It looks like I entered but I can't leave, and now I am stuck here.
“Well if you want to see more, come with me,” she says with a flat smirk.
Should I follow her? Can I trust this witch? I've been here for so long. Why am I just seeing her now?
“Are you not coming?” I still don't move. I'm still deliberating whether to follow her or not.
“Why the fuck are you wasting time bitch! I don't fucking have much time…..”
As she's still talking, something like darkness sweeps her away and I don't see her again.
What the fuck….
“If you had followed her, you would have been dead.” I heard a voice. I quickly turn but see no one.
I suddenly feel a sharp pain in my head as I fall on my knees screaming.
