Chapter 16 EZEKIEL
EZEKIEL
When one of the guards that I placed in front of Dalia's room told me that she escaped. I was livid. Yeah, I know that Dalia is strong and she will escape if she wants, but I warned the guards to be extra careful with her.
The guards were confused on how she escaped. They thought she was in the room only to find out that she was gone when they went in to give her food.
I know how she escaped, but I didn't tell the guards. Teleportation…. Just like how she appeared abruptly at the conference room a few days ago.
It wasn't hard to find her. But what gets me enraged is getting to the hospital and Jerald telling me that she's taking out a witch's curse from a boy. I didn't even stop to think about how a boy from my pack was cursed, but the fact that Dalia can be putting herself in danger made me scared. A feeling I will forever deny.
I know about a witch's curse and how dangerous they are. If you make a small mistake in taking it out, it can be transferred to you. I nearly rips off Jerald’s head for allowing her to take such a risk, but he told me that he tried to stop her. I believed him. I know how stubborn Dalia is.
I was so angry when I got to the room she was in and found out that the door was locked. Erik nearly brought down the whole place. Jerald left to go look for the spare key. I wasn't patient enough as I continued to knock and yank the door. At this point, I don't care if I'm overreacting. I just don't want anything to happen to her because the thought of it makes me feel like someone is squeezing my heart.
I know that I don't want her, and all these feelings are probably because of the mate bond, but I still don't want her to hurt. Even though I want her to leave, I want her to leave alive.
When she opened the door, I wanted to drag her into my arms and hide her there, but I stopped myself, ignoring Erik's rage. I couldn't believe how nonchalant she was. She didn't even care that I was worried.
But she's right about the curse. It's a witch's curse. It means witches still exist and there's one in my pack. I didn't want her to do anything further that may hurt her, but I know I can't stop her. So I allow her to find out who cursed the boy.
When she starts shaking, I draw her into my arms. She relaxes in my arms. I relish in the calmness she brings to me anytime I hold her in my arms. I inhale her scent, as it calms the ragging storm in me. After a while, she snaps her eyes open with a long gasp. She's breathing heavily while I hold her close, rubbing my palm through her back trying to calm her.
Eventually she calms down and looks up to me. There's a look of shock and confusion in her eyes, as if she's trying hard to process something that seems impossible.
“What did you see?” I ask. I can feel the weakness in her body. I'm glad that she saved a kid, but I'm mad she risked her life for it.
She glances at the boy. “He was cursed by his mother.”
“What? How is that possible? Her mother can either be a werewolf or a lycan.”
“I don't know how possible it is, but she's a witch. I know what I saw. He called her mother, and she was the one that placed the curse on him.”
If what she saw is true, then it means one thing….
“That's not his mother. Witches have the power to take someone else's form.” I've seen a case like this before. Now the question is how she saw the boy's mother, killed her and took her body. She definitely did not do it in the pack because there's no way she can get through the parole. Only she holds the answer. “I need to capture her and make her speak. She's definitely here for a reason. She must know something about the devils.”
“I'm coming with you.”
“I don't think you have had any encounters with a witch before. They can be so cunning. I can handle this. I will take Nikolai with me.” I cut in. I quickly mind-link Dennis, the warrior that trains young wolves to give me the boys address. I mind-link Nikolai to go ahead of me in case she escapes. I don't know why I have the feelings that she will.
“I'm coming with you and that's final. Don't try to stop me because you can't,” she says with a tone of finality and dash towards the door. The door opens before she does as Jerald steps in.
“Clean him up and treat his wound. I will be back to check on him.” she instructs before running out of the door. I sigh and go after her. She's just a stubborn little monster.
The boy's house is a little bit far from the pack house, so I take one of my cars. She opens the passenger seat and hop in as she fastens her seat belt. I turn on the car engine and speed towards the boy's house. I keep glancing at her. She looks a bit pale. This is why I was mad that she took the risk of taking out the curse. Once we are done with this, I will ask Jerald to assess her and make sure she's fine.
Nikolai is already there when we get to the boy's house. He's with Aaron. Dalia and I step out of the car as they walk towards us.
“We've searched the whole house but there's no sight of Mrs. Adams,” Nikolai says with a frown. Dennis gave me a little information I needed to know about the boy and his mother. He said that the woman is a widow. Her husband died three years ago, and she has been taking care of their young son, Leon, alone. My pack is very large and populated, so I'm really not expected to know everyone living in it.
“I think she's gone. But how did she know that we are coming after her?” Dalia sounds a bit surprised.
“I told you witches are cunning.” I replied.
“That still doesn't explain why she was so quick to escape. Someone must have tipped her off.”
“We are the only ones that know about this, although I don't know why Ezekiel suddenly asked me to arrest her.” Nikolai replies.
“Dennis told me where she lives. But I don't think he knows why I want that information,” I say, and look at Dalia. She still doesn't look convinced. “She's the one that placed the curse so I'm sure she will know when someone tries to take it out. She's not stupid. She must have known that her secret had been revealed.”
“We need to find her. She knows something that will be useful to us,” she says, looking ahead at the house.
“I've already told the parole guards about her. If she's still in the pack, she can't get past the borders,” Aaron says.
“What's going on Ezekiel? What crime did the woman commit?” Nikolai asks.
“I will fill you in on it later, but now we need to find her. The council also needs to know too.” I turn to Dalia. “Let's go back to the hospital. I need Jerald to check on you.”
“I'm fine, you don't need to worry.” She mutters.
“I'm not worrying.” I cut in. I caught Nikolai smiling. That fucker.
“I'm glad you've woken up Dalia. I will catch up with you later.” Nikolai winks at her. I glare at him.
“Thank you for saving me.” she smiles broadly at him.
“I was the one that saved you. And you didn't even thank me.” I try to hide the jealousy in my voice but I can't. Fuck! I hate this.
“He helped. And why should I thank you when I was in that situation in the first place because of you,” she says, and smiles at Nikolai before walking to the car..
Nikolai smirks at me. It takes me all my all not to rip his head off him. I know I can't do that, but he's tempting me. I hate the feeling of jealousy and I can't believe that one day I will be jealous of my best friend because my mate smiles at him.
