Finding Diana

Seymor wanted to tug his hair out, but he could not bring himself to do it, especially not in the presence of a restless alpha. He did not know what would happen next to his Alpha. Seymor could vividly remember his Alpha’s declaration of braving the storm, saying that he would bring his mate back!

‘Now? Our future Luna is gone.’ Seymor grunted in his mind.

“Alpha, may I know what is our next move? We cannot stay here undetected forever.” Seymor, who could not take it any longer, finally opened his tightly closed lips. With the heavy rainfall hitting them, weighing them down, he could not let themselves wander any longer.

“And do you think I care? We are not using our reconnaissance yet, but they can’t even detect us! They call them elites? Werewolf Committee is a bunch of weaklings!”

Seymor could not contain it anymore. He released a snort to which his Alpha responded by stopping dead in his tracks. Biting his lower lip, his canines protruded which he immediately hid to show that he did not mean any harm or insult towards his Alpha.

Amid the onslaught of thunderclaps hovering over them as zaps of lightning bolts littered the darkened sky, the two stood at the center of Crescent Pack’s main square. The flashes of illumination provided by the occasional lightning bolts showed a pair of flashing blue eyes of Alpha Dylan.

Carefully choosing his words, Seymor immediately made up excuses for his momentary lapse of judgment, fully remembering that his Alpha lacked common sense in terms of humor.

‘Alpha is a newly mated one! They are to be mad crazy with possessiveness right now! Just how in the fucking world did I ever forget about that?’ Seymor yelled at himself before he opened his mouth in haste.

Raising his hands as if he was surrendering, which he really was, Seymor spoke in a very fast manner. “I believe that Luna Diana will not be caught. We must tread carefully or it will further escalate things, Alpha. That is also the reason why she shut us off. She does not need us right now or we will blow up her plan. We must also be careful with this pack’s wolfsbane.”

The werewolves were particularly sensitive to wolfsbane. A mere touch to this flower could burn them while a measly amount of liquefied wolfsbane could render a normal werewolf unconscious for a day, mostly an omega and epsilon ranks.

Because of this weakness of the werewolf race, the officials of the Werewolf Committee uprooted all the wolfsbane plants in the continent and forbade anyone to plant it – that was the surface information. The truth was that the Werewolf Committee monopolized the production of wolfsbane!

The Blood Claws Pack did the opposite of other packs. Knowing a good disadvantage against their enemy, the alpha ordered all the working men to prioritize the wolfsbane agriculture in great secrecy.

Seymor knew that after this incident, they would be turning against the Werewolf Committee – and possibly other packs as well! This would bring great bloodshed for the packs. He always knew this day would come, but he never thought it would be this early.

            ‘Where are you, Miss Diana?’

Alpha Dylan mirrored Seymor’s question. “Where are you now, Diana? Please, please, be careful.”

With widened eyes, a thought struck Seymor’s mind. On cue, a single lightning bolt struck the darkened horizon followed by a booming thunderclap.

“The weather is like mourning with Diana as well,” muttered Seymor. He cracked a joke, “If I did not know better, I would have thought she’s a witch with all this bloody… storm. Fuck.”

Halfway to the sentence, Seymor’s face became ashen as an absurd thought came into her mind. This thought was also mirrored by Dylan.

‘Could it be that…’ Seymor could not voice out his question upon seeing the deep knot in between his alpha’s brows. He still wanted to live anyway. That would be a problem for another time.

Alpha Dylan was not able to see the shell-shock expression of his beta after he turned around and assume his tracks heading to the back alley of the Crescent Pack’s central town.

Though hot on his Alpha’s tails, Seymor was deep in his thought, his emerald eyes gleamed under the lightning sheen. It was not the danger that glinted within his specks of green. No. Rather, it was the piles of doubt that he only experienced when he was uncovering mysteries. He never thought that he would ever feel this kind of heart-pounding excitement from his future Luna’s identity.

After all, a witch as a Luna was both unique and awesome for Seymor! Now, finding Diana–a newly awakened beta bloodline with a witchy power–was like finding a fishbone underneath a pile of haystacks. It was close to impossible.

Seymor knew that even when his alpha discovered that Diana Ritchell was indeed a witch, his alpha would never abandon his mate.

A werewolf’s mate was the werewolf’s most compatible scent. If the Moon Goddess weaved the strings of fate with a werewolf’s most compatible scent, the Archmage, created the ‘blessed one’ to share their life force with – it was like a mate. Though some witches, who did not prefer romantic relationships used ‘the blessings’ to bless their chosen ‘blessed one’.

Mates and blessed ones were not supposed to link – or so Seymor believed.

This time, the Moon Goddess and Lupus would play a very annoying twist. Though it was rare, they would pare their children, a werewolf to a witch – a cursed pair.

The history of witches could only tally a handful of successful of witch and werewolf intermarriage. But most of the time, even when love was their foundation, the paradigm and the spectrum of the two races would make the other suffer.

Should the witch give way and gave up his or her lineage to join hands with a werewolf’s side, he or she was meant to suffer until the end of his time, for it was werewolf’s nature to be wary of the sheer strength of the witches.

Now, if the werewolf would give way and gave up his or her lineage to join hands with a witch inside the covens, he or she was meant to suffer for as long as he or she lived since it was within a witch’s nature to feel antagonistic against the werewolf race.

Either way, to be paired with a different race was both tragic and painful. Because of this, lesser and lesser lwitches pursue the search for their blessed ones… for they feared the pain of rejection especially amid the warring times between the werewolf race and the witches.

And so, witches married not because they were blessed to each other but because they were the most compatible with each other. Sometimes, a witch was looking for strength while the other was looking for wit. Either way, the legendary attraction between a fated pair was rare in the covens until the day that witches became instinct.

‘And to think that I will be able to witness my Alpha meeting a witch as a Luna! What a rare chance for me!’ Seymor’s happy grin froze upon one late realization.

If the witch was being restless with the werewolf territory, it only meant one thing. Seymor’s train of thought continued. ‘As long as the storm is here, Miss Diana is around somewhere! And she is in real danger!’

All the colors drained on Seymor’s face.

Gone were the light steps and gone was the cheshire grin he was sporting a fraction of a moment ago. It was replaced by the maddening thought that his Alpha would go crazy if he witness his mate being hurt – his mate’s demise.

‘No! I must stop it at all costs!’
