Chapter 99 Eiden

Chapter 99 Eiden
Eiden's POV

“For the past few days, you haven’t mentioned the search for the perpetrators who terrorized you and shot you in the left ear, Alpha.” Beta Serena placed the document on my desk, confusion evident on her face.

“I'm learning to be patient,” I said carelessly. My hand signed the document I had been reading.

“I realize my head is dizzy and heavy.” I placed the document on top of the others I was already handling. “That's not good for my health.”

“Wow, I never thought you could say something like that,” Beta Serena said, stunned.

“I’m glad you’re paying attention to your health, Alpha.” She rubbed at her eyes, even though there were no tears.

“You’re such a drama queen,” I sneered.

Beta Serena chuckled.

“You also don't think about the deleted post anymore,” said Beta Serena.

“At first, you were worried that people who believed the post would suspect you, but…” Beta Serena studied me, her fingers stroking her chin. “Now you’re ignoring it.”

“I realized they couldn't suspect me.” I checked my email inbox and immediately read the reply I had been waiting for.

“Although my name has become famous lately thanks to Alpha Jackson, Alpha Andrew, and Alpha Romeo,” I continued.

“Mm, you may be right, but we can’t let our guard down,” Beta Serena said anxiously. “What if your name suddenly starts trending online tomorrow?”

I sighed. Then I looked up at her, only to find her face pale.

“By the Moon Goddess, Beta.” I held back my growl. “Why are you talking to me about your worries? I don’t feel like overthinking!”

“You’re becoming like someone I don’t know, Alpha.”

“I’ve been like this all along.” I rolled my eyes in annoyance. “Usually I’d respond to your overthinking, but right now I’m not interested.”

Beta Serena pouted, nodding her head.

“Okay. I won’t bother you anymore with my negative thoughts.” Beta Serena made a guilty face. “I should be calm like you.”

“If we’re calm, what we fear won’t happen,” I said, even though I hadn’t proven it yet.

Beta Serena didn’t know. Neither did anyone else. Only my wolf knew why I was so calm, as if nothing was wrong.

It was all because of Celeste.

Celeste told me she already knew who the perpetrators were who terrorized me and shot me in the left ear, though I didn't know when she would tell me.

However, at least Celeste assured me that the perpetrators wouldn't do such a terrible thing again.

I could say I was free from the terror if I managed to live peacefully and safely for a full week, proving Celeste’s words true.

I read the message from the head of the warrior spy team. They hadn't found any clues to the perpetrators. The rogue intel couldn't help either.

"If Celeste isn't lying, then how am I supposed to tell the higher-ups and the warriors of the spy and elite teams about the perpetrators?"

I can't stop their mission without a clear reason. Plus, the pack members are eagerly awaiting the news. Everyone wants to know who dared to interfere with my life.

"I should be happy that Celeste has apprehended the perpetrators," I muttered. “But my head is spinning trying to think of a reasonable reason that they can accept.”

There was no way I could let the warriors from the spy team and the elite team continue with that mission when I knew they wouldn't be able to catch the perpetrators.

"Celeste helped me, and I'm grateful for that, but if I tell people the truth, I won't be the only one who will suspect who she really is."

I'd been holding back for the past few days from buying information about Celeste from the rogue intel. It hadn't been easy waiting for her to open up to me.

“Wait a minute.” I frowned. My hand, about to bring a cup of coffee to my lips, stopped. “Celeste didn’t say she caught the perpetrators. She just knows who they are.”

'Yeah, you just realized that,' my wolf said. 'But I don’t think it matters. The important thing is that she helped you, you won’t be terrorized anymore, and she promised to tell you.'

'But I want to punish the perpetrators who dared to do that to me!'

'I also want to see who those perpetrators are, but at least, we should be grateful.'

'Honestly, I’m getting more and more impatient with each passing day.' I sighed heavily before enjoying the black coffee without sugar.

'Me too,' my wolf said. 'We have to trust that Celeste isn’t just saying that to cheer you up.'

I nodded. Celeste was a serious person. She didn’t like to joke around.

I leaned back on the sofa with a cup of coffee in my left hand. My right hand held my phone.

I read my messages with Liam. Every day we just ask each other about what we ate and what we were doing. It's okay, that's good enough.

I stared at Celeste's name on the screen. The last time we spoke was two days ago, the night before Alpha Romeo and his warrior squad attacked my pack.

That night, I was surprised when Celeste called me and even more stunned by her words. Her wolf was going to fight a very annoying man.

My wolf and I wondered who he was until we almost forgot about Alpha Romeo and his army.

“Benedict’s brother loves Celeste.”

I tilted my head, my jaw clenched.

“If Liam hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known.”

I gulped down the coffee, my heart burning with jealousy.

"Because Celeste said that guy was really annoying and that her wolf was fighting with his wolf, which means she doesn't like him."

Even so, I still hated the news.

If Celeste liked her brother-in-law, I had no chance of winning her heart from the start.

I'd been hesitant to call her since yesterday. I couldn't even ask Liam what a good time would be to text or call his mother.

'Just call her,' my wolf said. ‘You won’t know if she’s picking up your call or not if you just stare at your phone.’

He sneered at me. 'You’re such a coward.'

My wolf sure has a sharp tongue.

I set the empty cup of coffee down on the coffee table.

I made myself comfortable and rested my hands on the sofa's arm before calling Celeste, feeling my heart pounding.

“Hi, Alpha,” Celeste greeted me in a cheerful tone. That was my perception.

“Hi, Celeste.” My breath hitched. The effect was overwhelming. That’s why I rarely called her by her name.

“Am I too late if I ask how your wolf duel with that annoying guy went?” I considered whether I should be honest with her and tell her I knew who the man was.

“My wolf won!” Celeste said happily. “I won't see his face for the next few months.”

I opened and closed my mouth. I really wanted to ask what she meant by that and what she did to that man.

“Congratulations on your victory, Alea,” I said from the bottom of my heart.

“Thank you, Alpha.”

“I’m truly relieved your wolf won that duel. Just as my wolf and I expected.”

“Our wolves were equally injured,” Celeste explained. “The judges decided my wolf was the winner.”

I frowned. Who were the judges? David and her driver?

“My wolf won that duel because of your wolf.” I’m pretty sure she was smiling broadly, her eyes sparkling. “Thank you so much for training my wolf.”

“We’re so happy to help you,” I said sincerely. “Are there no more training sessions after this?”

“I don’t know if my wolf will want to train in the winter.” Celeste chuckled.

I felt a jolt of shock from her soft laughter.

“I was actually exchanging messages with Liam while your wolf were fighting.” I couldn’t hide it from Celeste. “He told me who the man was.”

Celeste didn’t answer for a few seconds. “He’s obsessed with me. I’m uncomfortable.”

Her words made me introspect. Was she comfortable with me, or was it just me who enjoyed our time together?

'Ask her,' my wolf said.

No. I couldn’t ask her now. Not on the phone. I wanted to see the look on her face.
