Chapter 82 Eiden

Chapter 82 Eiden
Eiden's POV

In an instant, I became the main headline on television, in newspapers, and all over the internet.

War experts discussed and speculated about who had shot my left ear as I stepped out of the restaurant.

The shooter fired from thirty paces away, standing in front of a cake shop without fear or hesitation. He was clearly a professional.

My pack members were worried about me. They flocked to my house, wanting to make sure I was okay. But I couldn't meet them all.

The elders asked me to visit their building because they were too old to walk far, and some were carsick, and others were reluctant to leave the comfort of their place.

I went to the elders only to hear their intimidating and annoying questions. They accused me of angering our enemies.

I was grateful they didn't know about the two men who stopped my car and the death threats I've received.

By the Moon Goddess, I didn't know who was messing with me.

Those bastards were provoking me. They must be laughing because I haven't caught them yet.

Damn it.

“Alpha.”

“Mm.” I hummed as I looked at Beta Serena, Gamma Nolan, and Delta Sophia. “I have no idea who sent them.” I shook my head.

Alpha Jackson called me a few minutes ago. He swore to me that he didn’t pay the rogue assassin to hurt me. If he wanted to beat me up, he would have challenged me to a duel in the boxing ring.

“Could it be Alpha Romeo or Alpha Andrew?” Beta Serena’s brows furrowed. “But… they can’t be that cowardly.”

“All of our enemies have extensive connections; they can certainly contact rogue assassin groups,” Gamma Nolan said.

“According to our warrior spies, only Alpha Andrew has ever contacted a rogue assassin group, but they don’t know what Alpha Andrew requested of the group.” Delta Sophia reminded us of the information we obtained a year ago.

“Alpha Andrew attacked our group about a week ago.” Gamma Nolan stroked his chin, his gaze fixed on the coffee table.

“The two men who stopped Alpha's car, the stone that broke Alpha's bedroom window, the stone that was thrown onto Alpha's mansion porch, and the bullet that shot Alpha in the ear—all of that happened after Alpha Andrew and his warrior squad attacked us.”

We considered Gamma Nolan's statement seriously. It made sense, but we couldn't make accusations without proof.

"While it's hard to imagine Alpha Andrew paying rogue assassins to threaten Alpha, he could be the culprit." Beta Serena still frowned. She wasn't entirely convinced by her assumption.

"So you think all the perpetrators are rogue assassins?" Delta Sophia asked Beta Serena and Gamma Nolan. "It seems they're under the same control."

"Of course, they're rogue assassins from the same group." Beta Serena was certain of what she said.

“I suspect those two men were the ones who threw rocks through Alpha’s bedroom window and the terrace of Alpha’s mansion, and shot Alpha in the ear.” Beta Serena clenched her fists.

“Spies don’t carry weapons, and they wouldn’t throw rocks like that.” Beta Serena shook her head. “They were just seeking information.”

Alpha doesn’t send our warriors to threaten or intimidate our enemies. We do it ourselves.

“The papers on the rocks say they wanted to kill Alpha, but that person only shot Alpha in the ear.” Gamma Nolan looked at me intently.

Beta Serena and Delta Sophia gave me worried looks, as if they wished they could escort me wherever I went or force me to stay in the mansion until we could catch the perpetrators and the people who ordered them.

“I know what you’re thinking,” I nodded, speaking calmly. “I’ll take this seriously. Someone really wants me dead or at least to see me scared and not daring to leave the house.”

“We’re glad you’re no longer downplaying the bad things that have happened to you lately, Alpha,” Beta Serena said. The three of them breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief.

All the warriors on the spies team and the elite team are searching for the perpetrators throughout the pack. If they don't find anything today and tomorrow, the search will expand beyond the pack the day after tomorrow.

The spies' warriors have lost track of the two men carrying weapons who stopped my car a few days ago. They haven't found any clues.

That made us even more convinced that the people who terrorized and shot my ear were rogue assassins. There were likely only two of them, or each mission was carried out by a different person.

Alpha Lucas and Alpha Dragon called me, asking what I had done to warrant someone sending a rogue assassin.

“What are people thinking?” I clicked my tongue. “Even if I did something bad to someone, they should have challenged my wolf or me to a duel. Why waste money hiring a rogue assassin?”

I don’t get why people are so worked up over my ear being shot, like it’s some impossible, never-before-seen incident.

I wanted to know who had spread this news beyond the pack. Couldn’t they just keep their mouths shut?

'Hey, Eiden.'

'What?' I raised an eyebrow as I sipped my coffee.

'I’m suspicious of the mysterious texter who said Celeste was a dangerous woman.'

'Why are you suspicious of him?'

'Could it be that he was upset with you for ignoring his messages, and then he got his friends to join him to terrorize you?'

'Rogue assassins don’t bait us with messages because they know we can get their emails through our connections. They’re overconfident. At least that’s what I know about them.'

'Maybe you’re right.' My wolf shrugged. 'Then are you really going to ignore those messages from unknown numbers?'

'Yes.' I nodded. 'They’re just messages from scammers.' Celeste is a good person, and she’s a civilian.

I couldn't imagine Celeste being any different than the one I know, even though I know she hadn't opened up to me yet.

She wasn't even mad that I rejected her. She just didn't want to remember it. I'd been so cruel to her.

I won't rush into talking to her about wanting us back together. Besides, Liam hasn't fully accepted me as his biological father.

I smiled when I received a call from Celeste. My heart pounded as I picked it up and held the phone to my ear.

“Good afternoon, Alpha.” Celeste’s soft voice greeted me over the phone.

“Good afternoon.” I didn’t know her last name, either before or after she lived with Benedict. “What’s wrong?”

This was the first time Celeste had called me. She was sure to ask me about or discuss something serious.

“Liam wants to know how you’re doing. He’s embarrassed to ask you. You know that,” Celeste said. “He saw you get shot in the ear on television.”

Warmth spread through my chest. How comforting it felt to be cared for by my own flesh and blood.

“I’m fine. The wound disappeared in an instant,” I replied casually. “Thanks for worrying about me.”

“Okay. I’ll let Liam know.”

“Why did you call me? Wouldn’t you rather talk to me on text?”

“I just wanted to.”

“I hope you keep wanting to do it,” I said, covering my mouth slightlyIt wasn’t like me to say things like this. “Talking on the phone is more fun, right?"

My wolf rolled his eyes.
