Chapter 70 Eiden
Eiden's POV
The fight between Alpha Andrew's wolf and my wolf pack ended a few hours ago.
No one won. No one died. We were thankful there wasn't a funeral.
Alpha Andrew and his warrior squad returned to their pack behind ours after the battle ended.
He wouldn't talk to me. I didn't want to argue with him. It was pointless, as he would continue to think the same way.
I won't increase security at the back gate until Alpha Andrew does. Just let him and his warriors start the war.
I ordered Gamma Silas to assemble a team of warriors to watch over the southern forest. Many of my pack members farm and raise livestock there, and their safety is our top priority.
"We don't need to do anything more than this." I was convincing myself that our actions were enough. "There's no need to take his words seriously."
Alpha Andrew is just like Alpha Jackson; they only enjoy making me their enemy. They don't want their enemies to decrease; if possible, they want to increase.
"But Alpha Andrew isn't as annoying as Alpha Jackson. He rarely attacks us. He is not serious about discussing the issue of the southern forest region.”
I leaned back in my chair, chewing the gum I'd gotten from Beta Serena. She wanted me to relax and not rush into work immediately after exhausting myself.
Chewing gum made it hard for me to focus on my work, so I was zoning out, thinking about what I’d done and what I should have done.
'I'm so happy to fight with his wolf,' said my wolf as he lay down.
'I now just have to wait for Alpha Romeo and his army of warriors. When will they attack us? Winter is almost over.' My wolf was getting addicted to fighting enemies.
'Just wait. He won’t forget us,' I said. 'He has many enemies in the River Pack Clan.'
'I can’t wait to fight his wolf. I haven’t seen him in over a year.' My wolf chuckled at his own words.
'Are you grateful that Alpha Andrew and Alpha Auretta didn’t join?' I asked.
'Yeah, I was actually curious to see the strength of Alpha Auretta’s warriors,' my wolf replied.
'But I don't expect them to combine their warriors because I don't want our enemies to increase, especially since Alpha Auretta's pack is still a small pack.' My wolf shook his head.
My wolf is as fierce as any other werewolf Alpha. However, because he knows our previous Alphas had no ambition to expand our territory, compete to be the strongest and most feared, and enjoy bullying the weak, he doesn't want to change that.
My grandfather and father had warned me not to be greedy. Our territory was already vast and had many members. It was better to care for them than seek validation from others.
I enjoyed my life as it was, but I wouldn't stand by if someone else took what was mine or disrupted the lives of everyone in this pack.
The gum had lost its flavor. I threw it in the trash, my hand rubbing my sore jaw.
“Why do people even like chewing gum? My jaw hurts every single time,” I muttered.
“Okay. Back to work. I’ve been daydreaming for a while.”
My laptop was open in front of me, displaying all the emails I needed to go through.
My phone screen lit up on the table, tempting me to read the message. Who could be texting me at this hour?
It was my personal phone. My business partners rarely contacted me outside of email, so I had no idea what kind of message I was about to read.
\[I know you have a child with your ex-mate. I even know who your ex-mate is. That woman has silenced many people. Aren't you curious about who she is?\]
My eyes widened, my heart skipping a beat.
\[Of course, you know nothing is free. Don't hesitate to contact me.\]
My heart started beating again, this time so fast it felt like it was going to explode.
I froze, still processing the words written in the message.
My eyes blinked as they stung.
I covered my mouth and read the message again anxiously.
“Is this a scam message? The sender must be trying to blackmail me.” I winced at the trembling in my voice.
Damn. I felt threatened.
The sender wasn’t threatening me. He just wanted me to contact him and get money from him for information he believed I needed.
“He knows about Liam and Celeste,” I muttered, my breath catching in my chest.
“He’s not Alpha Jackson and his warrior spies. They don’t know Celeste is my former mate, and they only know Liam and Levi are my sons.” I closed my eyes for a moment as I caught my breath.
'It could be Alpha Jackson. You wouldn’t know he broke his promise.' My wolf offered his opinion.
Damn it. My fist slammed against the table. Anger boiled in my chest.
I was relieved after making a deal with Alpha Jackson that we'd keep each other's secrets, but now a message from an unknown number popped up.
“Okay. Now think logically.” I took a deep breath and exhaled quickly. My mind had calmed down.
“The sender of this message says they know who Celeste is, and Celeste has silenced many people.”
My brows knitted together.
“He’s telling me that Celeste paid many people to keep her secret. Is it about Liam being my son?”
'Maybe.' My wolf shrugged. 'That makes sense.'
“He asked me for money if I wanted to know about Celeste.” My heart was pounding, not out of curiosity, but because Celeste’s smile and gaze on me were filling my mind.
“Who is Celeste? What do I need to know about her?” I remembered Beta Serena asking me several times if I didn’t want to know where Celeste and her two sons lived.
“Do I need to know more about her?” I wasn't being hypocritical. I wanted to get to know her, but I preferred it if she chose to open up to me herself.
'I won’t give you advice on that,' my wolf said. 'Ask your heart.'
I nodded. I really didn't want to hear my wolf's opinion on that.
"I don't need to answer that message now," I said.
"I'm sure this message isn't from Alpha Jackson. He likes to joke around, but he knows when to be serious." I don't know where that confidence came from.
“He knows I'm not playing around, and he's afraid his embarrassing secret will get out,” I growled, my hand gripping my phone tightly.
The tension in my chest eased the moment I read Celeste’s message.
\[Liam wanted me to ask how you and your wolf are doing.\]
My wolf and I were shocked to receive such a question, even though we didn't hear it directly from Liam.
\[He also wanted to know when he would meet your wolf.\]
Celeste's second message made my wolf roll around in embarrassment. He was happy that Liam wanted to get to know him.
I didn't answer Celeste's text, but I called her.
I've been enjoying hearing her voice on the phone lately, and Celeste never ignores me.
"Hello. Is Liam with you? If not, that's okay. You can tell him that my wolf and I are fine. And we will arrange a schedule for him and my wolf to meet," I said quickly, without pausing, nervously.
“Hello,” Celeste chuckled. “Are you talking or rapping? I’m getting a headache listening to that.”
I was stunned as if time had stopped ticking. Celeste was laughing at something I hadn’t even meant to do!
“Don’t worry, you said it clearly. Okay, I’ll let Liam know,” Celeste said cheerfully again. I could picture her wide smile, a smile she rarely showed me.
“Hello? Are you there?”
I chuckled as I slapped my forehead. “Yes, I am.” It took me a long time to recover from my shock.
“What are you doing?” I was taken aback by the question I had so readily asked her. Celeste seemed surprised too, answering three seconds later.
My wolf smiled mockingly at me. 'Someone’s in love.'
