Chapter 55 Eiden
Eiden's POV
For the past two days, I’d been haunted by dreams of being chased through that hospital by two headless babies. The source of the crying remained a mystery, but I was sure it wasn’t coming from them.
The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, and my breath catches every time I remember that dream.
Dreaming of two headless babies chasing me while crawling fast was scarier than being pecked by vultures.
I don't know if the babies were going to kill me or if they were just trying to scare me. Because my reflexes were so good, I immediately ran when they chased me.
'Why did you have that dream?' my wolf asked, confused. I was even more confused than he was. 'Have you ever killed a baby?'
'Why are you asking me that as if you don't see everything I do? You’ve been inside me since I was born, and you’ve never left me.' I was so annoyed with my wolf.
Arlo grinned broadly, guiltlessly. 'I was wrong to ask you that.' How hard it was for him to apologize to me.
'Then why were your dreams so scary? You've never watched a murder movie, and I remember you've never met a baby in person.' I loved it when my wolf enthusiastically discussed my nightmares with me.
I sat in my study in my mansion. That night, I hadn't slept because I didn't want to have another nightmare.
Those four cups of coffee had helped me fight off the relentless sleepiness that was attacking me.
Unfortunately, there was no more work to do; everything was already finished. It seemed I was the only one staying up this late.
Because I was sleepy, I sometimes couldn't think clearly or deeply. My body's still not used to this.
'Why do you think I might have killed those two babies?' I raised an eyebrow. 'I must firmly remind you, I've never killed a baby, let alone a woman.'
'Because, as I said, you've never watched a movie about murder,' my wolf said.
'That makes sense.' I nodded. 'But my nightmares are bizarre and have nothing to do with the real world.'
'Yeah, you’re right.' My wolf agreed. 'But dreaming about two babies is way weirder than your previous nightmares.'
That’s absolutely true. Usually, it’s animals that chase me. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if the dream of those two days in the hospital were to come true.
I rubbed my arm and looked around warily. The lights were bright, and I would know right away if there was anyone other than me in the room.
By the Moon Goddess, I don't believe in ghosts, but those two babies were definitely not living creatures.
I yawned so widely that my eyes watered and I nearly dropped my head onto my desk.
I shook my head to ward off the drowsiness.
My head ached so much, like it was being squeezed, and my stomach felt nauseous. I couldn't wait to be free from those damn dreams.
"This medicine doesn't work at all." I held tightly and glared at the green bottle. "I don't need you anymore. You just make my dreams so scary."
I couldn't just throw away the green bottle. What if someone found it and thought it was illegal drugs? Many medications shouldn't be consumed.
"None of the information he provided was important or confidential. It was all simple information that wouldn't surprise anyone." I stared at the flash drive in the nightstand drawer.
I felt like it was a waste of time buying the medicine and information from that intel rogue with red glasses. If I'd known it would turn out like this, I wouldn't have contacted him.
Never mind, this isn't like me; I never regret anything I've done.
Damn it. Damn it. Damn it.
I woke up gasping for breath and sweat rolling down my face. My heartbeat filled the silence of the room.
I rubbed my face roughly and ran my fingers through my hair.
I stood up from my chair and turned around, and drove my fist into the wall twice until it cracked, ignoring the blood dripping from my hand.
'Calm down, Eiden,' my wolf reassured me.
I don't know what time I fell asleep, as it was still 4 a.m.
I had a nightmare, and the good news is I no longer dream about the two headless babies. That morning, I had a dream about a giant snake coiling around my body. I woke up before all my bones shattered into pieces.
However, I didn't want to discuss it with my wolf. I was calming down the emotions that were exploding in my chest because I didn't know who deserved my anger.
I devoured the roast pork without chewing it. It was no wonder I choked several times, and I was overly full from drinking too much water.
“You don’t have to worry about anything, Alpha,” Beta Serena said cheerfully. “I’ll take care of your work and our pack while you’re away.”
“Don’t take care of everything,” I said seriously. “I don’t want you to get tired because of me. You have work to do, too.”
“Don’t worry, Alpha. I don’t want to get sick either.” Beta Serena chuckled.
I smiled broadly. “Thanks again, Beta.”
“No problem, Alpha. Leave everything to me.” Beta Serena patted her chest. I never doubted her. She was the only one I could ask for help with this.
The warrior escorted me to the rogue clan. Four other warriors were in the car behind me. But they never entered the area; they waited for me dozens of steps outside the gate.
I was considering placing a spy warrior in the rogue clan. He would only monitor Liam and me, but if the rogues found out, they would think I was preparing to attack one of their groups.
I didn't want to be considered an enemy, and I didn't want to break the trust of Paulo and his brother-in-law.
"Hi, David." I greeted the tall, muscular man, like a warrior, who always wore sunglasses and sat under a tree while waiting for Liam.
He never forgot to use werewolf scented perfume, and I also disguised my body odor with a special perfume I bought from a rogue.
"Hi." David nodded at me. Liam's fake uncle almost called my name.
I sat next to him. He had already set aside a small folding chair for me and a newspaper.
Liam had known I would be coming to his school that morning.
I called Celeste last night to tell her about the medication I got from a rogue intel that didn't help my nightmares at all. I don't know why I was happy to tell her that.
I stood up as the bell for Liam's kindergarten school rang loudly. My gaze darted to the school entrance and the school gates. My heart pounded with excitement; it had been so long since I had seen Liam.
I smiled broadly as I saw Liam approaching the school gates. A second later, my brow furrowed as Liam waved to his friends.
A man approached Liam. Liam gave him a confused look, indicating he didn't recognize him. I quickly moved toward them as the man grabbed Liam's hand.
“Hey. Who are you?” I snapped, gripping the shoulder of the man in the black leather jacket and medical mask. “What business do you have with him?”
Without warning, the man bolted. While I was still stunned, David took off after him.
"Are you okay, Liam?" I looked at Liam, whose face was pale, and his hands were shaking. My heart felt like a knife was stabbing it.
"You're safe. I'm with you." I patted his head. Liam looked at me with teary eyes, terrified.
That bastard. I should have broken his arm.
