Chapter 52 Celeste
Celeste's POV
The children, aged seven to ten, trained day and night tirelessly. They were enthusiastic about embracing their new lives as part of our ranks.
The 20 boys and girls would become spies and assassins, but if any of them failed the test three times, they would be prepared to work in the department.
Everyone at this base had their own role. Except for the babies and children, no one was free from work.
However, I was not the one who determined each person’s role. I only monitored and signed the related documents.
"They're so enthusiastic," Levi praised the twenty children. "I like them."
Levi was like an Alpha conducting a surprise inspection, hoping to catch those who were slacking off on their work. Please don't forget that Levi is only 3 years old.
"Aren't you bored watching them practice every day?" I stroked Levi's hair as he stood in front of me, my left hand holding his tiny hand.
"I'm not bored. I like it." Levi looked up at me with a wide grin. "I want to be like them."
I smiled faintly. We hadn't told Levi that he was the future Alpha of this group, but even so, Alpha Yon and Alpha Greg knew that Levi was Benedict's biological son and Liam was my son.
There truly was no secret that a rogue assassin couldn't know.
Sometimes I wonder what if Alpha Eiden didn't care why Liam looked and had hair like his. Because Benedict and I never discussed when we would tell Liam who his biological father was.
I was grateful that Liam already knew the truth about his biological father and was slowly but surely accepting Alpha Eiden, even though we became restless after Alpha Jackson found out about us.
"Why do you want to be a spy and an assassin?" I sat on the large rock with Levi on my lap. My hands were around his stomach and I was stroking his hair.
"Because it's fun." Levi giggled, wondering what he was imagining. If Levi's enthusiasm didn't fade as he grew up, I think he would become a ruthless Alpha who loves blood. I didn't know if that would be good for us.
"What if you worked like Daddy and Mommy?" I asked Levi cautiously. It seemed like I was the one who forgot that Levi was only three years old just because he spoke fluently and understood other people's speech well.
"I like being like daddy and mommy. You are powerful leaders." Levi nodded twice with a wide smile, but I felt his tiny hands gripping mine tightly. "I miss Daddy."
Oh, Moon Goddess, how foolish I was. Even though my sons never cry anymore, I should have known they hadn't completely forgotten Benedict.
"Mommy misses Daddy too." I hugged Levi tighter and kissed his cheek. "Daddy is always in your heart and watching you in heaven. Don't forget that." I touched his chest, then pointed to the clear morning sky.
"Yes, Daddy never left me because he loves me." Levi hugged his own arm, holding back tears.
I blinked my teary eyes several times. I wouldn't let myself cry because Levi would surely cry with me.
"Hi, Levi." Gamma Silas approached Levi cheerfully. He had finished assigning assignments to the twenty children. The coaches would be supervising and assessing them.
"Hi, Gamma." Levi got up from my lap and waved at Gamma Silas. "I want to follow, Gamma."
I smiled, amused by Levi's pleading look. "I never say no, but thank you for asking my permission. You're my smart son." I kissed his cheek.
Levi was so happy holding hands with Gamma Silas and letting him take him everywhere. Of course, they would only be at the base; there was no reason for Gamma Silas to go out.
Since Levi and I weren't waiting for Liam at the playground near Liam's kindergarten, Beta Dylan or Gamma Silas spent time with Levi so that Levi wouldn't be sad waiting for Liam to come home from school.
I still couldn't believe Levi was happy and comfortable with Beta Dylan and Gamma Silas. Benedict and I had never let our son be with anyone else.
I walked home. People were busy with their activities. Despite this, the base was always quiet.
I watched the departure of the five spies tasked with digging deeper and discovering the existence of the organization that created the virus that infected many Alpha Rogue children, some of whom were heirs.
We hate that virus-creating organization. They are extremely skilled at hiding and never fail to detect our agents. We dislike anything we can't fully uncover.
Alpha Yon and Alpha Grey had sent their own agents to investigate the organization as well. They encountered the same obstacles we did, but cooperation was never an option.
'I want to train,' my wolf said sulkily. 'I haven’t fought in a long time. My muscles are tense and stiff.'
'I also want you to train your strength, but yeah, as you know, only Delta Giana wants to fight you,' I said.
I was already sitting in my work chair. Every day there were new emails from people wanting our assassins to kill people they wanted to eliminate from this world.
The moment I became Alpha, my conscience and empathy were forced into silence.
I knew my sins were equal to those who hired our assassins. After all, I was the one who accepted their requests and set the price.
\[Is Liam home from school yet?\] I frowned. Alpha Eiden was asking me a different question than the previous days, and he usually texts me after Liam gets home from school.
\[Not yet. I think it's lunchtime. You know when Liam gets home from school.\] I replied to his message, shaking my head.
Three days ago, in the evening, Alpha Eiden called me and said that he hadn't asked about Liam for two days because he thought my two sons and I were angry with him because of those two Alpha Jackson spies.
Liam and Levi never discussed it. Liam only asked me about it on our way home from the Alpha Eiden's pack. I didn't want to bring it up for fear of them getting more worried.
I stared at the door as Beta Dylan knocked, and I let him in.
Beta Dylan placed a box of chocolate donuts on the coffee table. "You can eat them after lunch. I'll remind you so you don't forget."
“Okay. Thank you very much.” I nodded, confused. He never came to my office without bringing documents or giving me information he received from our spies.
“I don’t want you to get sick.” Beta Dylan stood in front of my desk, his gaze fixed on me. “Of course, everyone at this base doesn’t want to hear that you’re not feeling well.”
“I appreciate your concern for me.” I nodded with a sincere smile.
"Don't worry about Liam," Beta Dylan suddenly patted the back of my hand and said softly. I froze, my brows furrowed. "You know, many of our agents are making sure nothing bad happens to him."
"Yes. I trust them," I said. It was the first time Beta Dylan had touched me, but I wasn't surprised because he just wanted to calm me down.
