Chapter 70 Want. Need.

Chapter 70 Want. Need.
Bella’s pov.
“Go to sleep, my baby. When you wake up I’ll be here, John too. We don’t have anything to do tomorrow so we can spend it together and do whatever you want, okay?” I whispered to Megan, feeling terrible for not being around much lately, wanting to make it up to her.

“Okay, mommy. I’d love that,” she said sleepily, her little eyes closing on their own.

I watched her for another minute, making sure she truly was asleep before I left her room, closing the door gently behind me.

“John?” I called out, looking around the house for him but not seeing him anywhere. Wondering where else he’d be.

“I’m in here,” his voice called back out, but it was faint, coming from my bathroom.

I walked slowly towards my room, wondering why he chose my bathroom instead of the one in the hall.

With curious steps I found myself standing in front of the door, my hand hovering by the handle, wondering if I should knock first.

‘He’s our mate, just go in,’ Tundra whispered, the one word I thought I’d be scared of…

But now that I know my second chance mate is John? Not some random person… My soul feels at peace… for once in my life it truly feels at peace.

I took a shaky inhale of breath before twisting the handle and opening the door.

My lips parted in shock at the sight.

John’s full chest and back on display, a small towel wrapped around his waist…

I cleared my throat, John chuckling before he turned around, a grin on his face, as if he liked making me uncomfortable.

“You took a shower?” I asked, trying so hard not to look at his muscles… his abs… his-

“You can look. You can touch me too if you wanted to,” he said instead of answering my question, making my mouth feel dry all of a sudden.

“John… There's so much I need to talk to you about tonight, I can’t get distracted. You are a huge distraction. Please, can we wait till tonight?” I felt bad saying it, because hell, I wanted him just as badly as he wanted me.

“Okay…” he sighed, a slight smile on his face as he searched my eyes, looking for something… “let’s go lay done in bed and we can talk about whatever you need to talk about.”

I nodded my head, my exhaustion catching up to me as soon as I laid back against my pillows.

I groaned loudly, my hand resting on my forehead.

“Let’s talk and we could just go to bed, you’re exhausted… Tundra probably is too…” he whispered while feeling my forehead, making me lay back as he tried to tuck me into the blankets.

“Well… for one. You told me you’d talk to me about why your brother, the king, bailed last minute, and how he didn’t come to the rejection? He assured me he’d be there, but where was he?” I asked, needing to know why the king left that morning, why he couldn’t make it to the rejection ceremony.

“My father… they thought he was dead this morning, it was early and they almost couldn’t bring him back but they did. And he’s alive still, for now,” he mumbled, a far away look on his face as he spoke.

“Oh,” I said quietly, feeling terrible now. I was so angry, so disappointed but I realize now that wasn’t fair. I should’ve known something more important came up, “why didn’t you go?”

He smiled at my question, putting his hand on my cheek, “because of you. I promised I’d be there, and I never break a promise. Especially not to someone I’m in love with,” he said softly, a bigger smile making its way onto his face as I pushed my hand closer to his hand.

Tingles ran through my body from his touch, the familiar feeling making me sigh, knowing it’s a safe feeling now, a joyful sensation. Not a thing that I have to beg for, or work for. Just something that’ll be there everyday, whenever I need it.

“What else did you need to talk to me about?” He asked suddenly, making kg eyes snap to his.

“Oh, I wanted to let you know that we have to take Megan somewhere tomorrow morning, or whenever. I said we didn’t have anything to do so we’ll just have to try and take tomorrow off. I know we have so much to catch up on but I’ve been so busy, I feel like I’ve barely seen her in the last two weeks. There’s also the matter of Garrett. I know you probably don’t want to talk about him or hear his name,” I paused as John scoffed, laughing absentmindedly as he looked away from me, “like I was saying… he didn’t do anything today, but that doesn’t mean he won’t try to do something soon. I want us to be prepared. We need more warriors on patrol and their training needs to be upped. Even if he doesn’t try something there’s the problem with the vampires, and I don’t want them getting onto the pack lands, it wouldn't be good.”

“Yes. All valid. We’ll definitely go do something with Megan, and don’t worry about the warriors. I'll handle all of that and start training them more heavily. As for the vampires… just try your best to stay away from them, one bite could end you. If they start drinking your blood it’s almost impossible to get them to stop.

I visibly cringed as my kind went back to that one night again…

I shook my head quickly, as if that could get rid of my thoughts…

“I’ll try my best… but John, I am the alpha. I will fight with the pack if it comes down to it. And you can’t stop me from doing that, I wouldn’t stop you. You have to trust that I can take care of myself, and if you are that worried, train me more, make me even better. That way you wouldn’t have to worry about me, ever,” I said calmly, knowing that I would never allow a man to tell me I couldn’t fight with my own pack. I let Garrett make decisions for me long enough, I won’t do it again. With anyone…

“I will. And you will get better. You’ll be the best…” he whispered beside my ear, making heat pool into my belly at the roughness in his voice.

I crawled over to him, sitting directly in his lap.

It’s been way too long since I’ve done this… and it’s also been way too long since I’ve wanted to jump John’s bones.
