Chapter 37 Chapter 37

Chapter 37 Chapter 37
MARTHA:

"Martha, don't think that you will get away with this! You won't!" Elena yelled, but I didn't turn to look back at her.

I was done with Mark, so why should I fight for him? I felt better for the first time since my father's death, so I stepped out of the house, hailed a cab, and went to the university, where I had a morning class.

JASPER:

Upon my arrival at my restaurant, I drove my sleek black car into the restaurant parking lot.

When I alighted from the driver's seat, I shut the door and turned ahead, walking to the restaurant building.

As I stepped into the lobby, the smell of delicious food wafted through the air, and I was greeted by a few staff who were attending to the arriving guests.

Steven sat at a table, having his meal. His gaze was sharp and focused on the door, like he was awaiting my arrival. When he saw me stride into the restaurant lobby, he quickly stood to his feet. He wore black slacks that accentuated his masculine frame.

Some of my female staff gawked at him, but Steven ignored them and strode up to meet me.

"Brother," he said, extending his hand for a handshake when I finally approached him.

"Welcome back. What brings you here? Let's go to my office to discuss," I said, leading Steven to my office, and he walked along with me.

When we stepped into my office, my brother was holding a bottle of cold water and he took a sip. Water was dripping down the side of his lips before he shut the bottle and turned to face me.

"I see you don't have anyone ordering you around. That's why you arrived this late to your restaurant," Steven spoke with a smile when he finished drinking from his bottle. He shut the lid and plopped down on the chair across from me, his gaze sharp as he met my gaze.

"I am the boss, and I have staff who work for me, so why should I arrive early?" I asked him calmly. My lips curled up in a smile, and he nodded.

"Got it. What brought me here is serious. I have to go back to the hotel where we lodged before to find a girl," Steven said, maintaining a serious expression, and I met his gaze.

"A girl?" I asked, like I wasn't aware of who he was searching for.

"Yeah. Unfortunately, that night, when we arrived at the Dennis Hotel, a young woman was there, getting embarrassed by the receptionist. She was drenched from the rain, and she wanted to sell herself off to any patron. Alpha Andrew stepped forward before I could stop him, and he offered to spend the night with her. He knew that she was a human, but he felt strongly attracted to her," Steven narrated, and my fists clenched by my sides as I recalled how Martha had suffered the previous weekend. Why hadn't she called me? Why had she gone to sell herself to a total stranger? What if the man wasn't Alpha Andrew?

I wished I was the man. I wished I was the one with her that night. I wished she had confided in me for help.

"So what do you want to do about it now?" I asked Steven when I met his face. I wasn't ready to inform him that I knew who he was searching for.

My gaze was expressionless as I met Steven's face.

"Luna Sarah found out, and she sent me back to this city to ensure that I find the lady and that she takes care of it, so she doesn't conceive from that encounter," Steven explained.

"Have you gone to the hotel to ask for the lady? How can you find her? Will you recognize who she is?" I bombarded Steven, and he appeared thoughtful.

"I don't know. It was night, but I strongly believe if I get to see her again, I will recognize her."

"Have you gone to the hotel to make inquiries?" I demanded.

"No. I came here first. I don't know how it works, but I want to be sure that I can ask for her. That night, I heard she wasn't among the list of women who worked for the hotel, so that might make my search for her difficult," Steven said, as he rubbed his chin.

"Alright. I will join you to find her. I don't know why Alpha Andrew will break the pack law. He knows that humans aren't welcomed to the pack, and yet, he was careless enough to mate with a human without protection," I ranted, keeping my anger at bay, but Steven peered at me thoughtfully.

"You don't seem surprised that I told you this," he said.

"Why should I?" I demanded.

"I know humans are pretty, so I am not surprised that Alpha Andrew got mated with a human. I seem to like one, but she is not my mate. Ivan and I just like her," I informed Steven. His jaw dropped, eyes widened, before he exclaimed, "I knew it. All this while Mom and Dad asked you to return home to choose a mate, you refused. Dr. Tina also said that you haven't accepted to marry her. So it obviously has to be a human that has captured your attention. But you know it's forbidden to marry one. What are you planning on doing about this? Did she accept you? Who is she? When can I get to meet her?"

Steven stood up as he looked at me. I was standing, getting prepared to leave my office with him, since he wanted to pay a visit to the Dennis Hotel, but I wouldn't let him meet Martha yet.

"She hasn't accepted to marry me. Our relationship is just getting started," I said, my lips curled up in a smile, as I was hopeful that Martha would fall for me.

"Does she know that you are a werewolf?" Steven inquired, and I nodded.

"She knows."

"What? Why would you tell her about our kind? What if she exposes us? I do not trust her!" Steven gasped, pacing about my office, but I assured him,

"Martha will not betray me."

"Martha," Steven said her name, and my heart skipped a beat, as I wondered if Martha had told Alpha Andrew her name.

"Yeah. Let's go, so we can find more information about who the lady is," I said, wanting to be sure that there was no evidence to help Steven find Martha. He was Alpha Andrew's Beta, after all.

"Brother, how much trust do you have in this human? They are hunters, investigating our kind, wanting to wipe out our existence. You cannot trust her to share too many secrets with her," Steven said, his face etched with worry for me, and it pierced my heart that I was being dishonest with him.

When I stepped away from my office desk to approach my brother, I crossed my right arm around his shoulder and I assured him, "Don't worry. She will not betray me."

"Alright. Let's go. I will get to meet her later, and I will see who she is. I hope that I get to see her. Or are you planning to keep her away from me?" he demanded.

Thinking about their last visit to my restaurant, Martha was not the one who had served Alpha Andrew and his team, alongside my brother.

"Don't worry. You will get to meet her, but not today. When are you going back?" My expression hardened as I met his face.
