Chapter 35 Chapter 35

Chapter 35 Chapter 35
JASPER'S POV:

"Hello," I said when I answered the call. I was shocked to see my brother's name on the phone screen.

'Why was Steven calling me this early in the day? Had he already found out about Martha? Was Alpha Andrew searching for Martha?'

There was no way I would allow Martha to get close to Alpha Andrew. I was even planning to stop her from working for me at my restaurant, to ensure that Alpha Andrew never crossed paths with her.

How could Alpha Andrew break the pack's law and mate with a human? Was he planning to send Martha to an early grave?

My fists clenched, and I could feel the blood seeping out from the claws that had extended from rage.

I stepped out of my house, my voice steady and calm as I asked Steven, "What's up with you? Why are you calling me this early?"

"I came back to the city. Where are you? I arrived at your restaurant, and I was informed that you show up at nine. I thought you resided in the suite on the top floor. Where did you fụcking go? Are you mating with a human?" Steven bombarded me with a series of questions. He was my younger brother. We were very close growing up, and I felt bile in my stomach and on my tongue, lying to him with a straight face.

"I had something to do, so I didn't stay back last night. What brought you back? Is there something wrong?" I asked, observing the urgency in his voice.

"Very wrong," Steven said, before he added, "We cannot discuss this over the phone, so you have to come to the office. I will be waiting for you."

"Alright. But what I want to do will take me at least an hour or two," I said, and Steven groaned.

"Whatever suits you. Just hurry up, because I will soon be leaving," he replied, and I sighed.

"Got it." The call ended, and I turned back to see Martha standing behind me. I didn't even know that she had stepped out of the house.

Seeing her standing there in that green dress that hugged her slender body, with her ample chest and backside, I grew jealous that she had been with other men and not me.

"Martha, when did you step out?" I asked her, clearing my throat and putting my jealousy at bay.

"Not too long ago. The policeman from yesterday called me and said that he would like to carry out the investigation from today, so I will be heading home," she replied calmly. Her cheeks flushed scarlet as the sun bathed her in a warm glow.

"Come over, let me drop you off at home. I have something to take care of too. I would have loved to stay back to see how the policemen carry out their investigation, but I just have to attend to something urgent."

Seeing my frowned face, Martha inquired, "Sir, I hope it's not something bad."

"No. It's nothing of such. Let's go." I escorted her to my car. Obviously, I didn't want to tell Martha that my brother had arrived, and so we entered my black Benz. I ignited it and drove off to Martha's father's house, since I already knew the house address.

Now that I had Martha here with me, I could not stand the thought of losing her to another. I should have told my brother the truth, told him that I was smitten by a human, but Steven would freak out and know that she could not be welcomed to the pack.

It's a taboo for a werewolf to marry a human. Any werewolf who leaves the pack must marry a werewolf either from the pack or a neighbouring pack. It's forbidden to get married to a human.

Any wolves who break this law and marry a human must report their sins to the Alpha and also bring the pup back to the pack if the child is a werewolf. It's a risk to leave werewolf babies among humans, so as to keep their identity a secret.

Breathing out heavily, I firmly held onto the steering wheel as I drove to Martha's father's house. There was traffic on the road; several cars were filling the space and making the movement slower.

"Mr. Weston, is something wrong? You seem so tensed," Martha asked, as if she was beginning to study me. I smiled, knowing that she genuinely cared when I saw the concern etched on her face.

"Yeah. I am fine. I am just troubled about the fact that a werewolf cannot marry a human. That's my pack law, unless we risk banishment and our wolf sent to exile."

"Wow!" Martha's eyes popped out in surprise.

"Are you sure? But you said that you like me. So what happens if I had said yes?" she asked, and I smiled as I drove slowly, before navigating to the street that led to the estate where her father's house was.

"I would report myself to the Alpha and high priestess of the pack and beg for forgiveness. They can permit me to bring the pup, but the human will never be welcome to the pack to live among us. I can be forced to wipe off your memory about me, to avoid you telling anyone the truth, but that's only if you accept to marry me and you swear never to reveal my true identity to anyone."

"But I will never reveal your true identity to anyone. You are a nice man and nicer than my stupid ex-fiancè who cheated on me with my sister. Of all the women he could cheat on, why Elena? I feel Mark doesn't love her and is up to a target. Maybe he is playing with her like how he did with me."

Martha's fist clenched around her bag. Her gaze darkened, and I smiled.

"It's fine. Don't let Mark trouble you. He is a lazy man and not prepared to work as a man, so he is looking for a woman to leverage on," I said.

"Where do you two know each other from?" Martha inquired, her large blue eyes locked on mine, and she appeared so adorable at the moment.

"At a business course, when I just came to the city recently. We met at school, but I didn't waste my time on him. He was intimidated by my wealth."

"Where did you get money? Are people in the place you came from living in houses or tents, or where?" Martha looked curious, and I laughed.

"We lived in normal houses like here. Duplex too, but most of the elite families live in the pack house and close to the Alpha. The others live in normal bungalows and affordable homes or their family houses. They live free lives, but you know we have ranks and status."

"So what's your rank?" she asked, as I pulled up at the front gate of her father's house.

"I am a beta wolf by birth. I'm strong, so that makes me a high ranking wolf. We have different ranks, up to five ranks, but the Alphas rank at the top. They are born leaders, protect the packs, and fight in wars between packs."

"Wow! No wonder that man had several scars on his body," Martha murmured, and I frowned.

"Did you see him naked?" I inquired.

Martha's cheeks turned red, and she quickly swung her side door open. "I will see you later. I got to go." She hurried away without answering my questions, and I knew for sure Alpha Andrew was so shameless.

I couldn't blame him. Martha was so pretty that he broke the pack law to have sex with her, despite knowing it was forbidden to have anything intimate to do with a human because she would never be welcomed to the pack.

Igniting my car, I drove off to my restaurant.
