Chapter 27 Chapter 27
Chapter 27 Chapter 27
MARTHA:
“Martha, where are you going to?” Sandra asked, as she watched me drag my travel bags downstairs.
“I want to discard some of the old clothes in this bag and sell them off. It just occurred to me that most of my clothes are old and worn out,” I replied calmly, seeing that Zara had left the house.
Sandra scowled and wanted to stop me, and the chef also frowned at me. However, Elena said sweetly, “Mom, let’s eat. It’s not like Martha has anywhere to run to. So don’t worry about her.”
A wave of relief washed over Sandra’s features. “You are right, Elena. I almost forgot that Martha doesn’t have anywhere she can run to.”
I ignored my stepmother and stepsister as the smell of the delicious food they were eating wafted through the air and into my nostrils.
My stomach growled with hunger so loudly that I was embarrassed by the sound.
Sandra and Elena glared at me as they heard my stomach growl. How embarrassing.
I quickly rushed out of the house, grateful that Sandra had sacked the last security guard, so there was no one guarding the gate for the moment.
When I stepped outside, the sun had gone down a bit as sudden dark clouds enveloped the sky.
Mark arrived wearing a white top and black trousers with a pair of black shoes.
Seeing him used to make me smile, but this time, I frowned and looked away from him.
“Martha, where are you going to?” Mark rushed to stop me before I could walk past him with my large bag of clothes.
“What does it have to do with you? Let me go!” I tried to wriggle my left hand free from Mark’s firm grip, but he wouldn’t let go.
“Do you think I will let you go so easily after you embarrassed Elena and me at the restaurant? Where are your manners, Martha?” Mark growled at me as he stood in front of me, towering over me.
“Let me go, Mark. I’m sure you do not want to risk going to jail for harassing me,” I warned him, and he frowned.
Then a smirk curled up his lips. “Where do you want to get the evidence to arrest me? You are going to marry me whether you like it or not. I own you, Martha, and the police wouldn’t even look at you or listen to your rant.”
“My rant?” I glared at Mark, unable to believe what a perfect actor he was.
“Since you love Elena so much, why not marry her? Are you too lazy to work to build yourself up, so you want to gloat over another person’s inheritance? I don’t have time for your nonsense, Mark. Let me go!” I tried to break free, but Mark wouldn’t release me.
“First, you need to explain to me what the hell you are doing with your boss? Mr. Weston doesn’t help his staff, and it’s rumored that he has fired many employees. Yet, he helped you. Are you sleeping with him?” Mark yelled in my face, but I didn’t react.
I was too irritated and too tired not to feel sick because of him.
“Answer me, Martha!” Mark held me firmly, and my wrist hurt from where he had clutched me. His eyes darkened when his gaze landed on my neck.
“What’s that red mark? Damn it. I knew you were sleeping with your boss. So you slept with him before our marriage. How could you do that to me, Martha?” Mark growled, shaking me, and my mood darkened.
“Shut up! You cheated on me with Elena. What’s wrong if I cheated too? Yes, I slept with my boss. What will you do about that? Can you challenge Mr. Weston, or should I call him and tell him that you’re harassing me?”
Mark’s eyes narrowed, and he quickly let go of me as he flinched. I wondered what about my boss scared him so much.
Seeing the diamond ring on Mark’s finger, I pointed at it and said, “You bought a matching pair of rings for yourself and Elena. Do you think I wouldn’t find out? Do not act like you ever loved me, Mark, and don’t ever try to lay your filthy hands on me again. I will call the cops on you for harassment, so keep your distance.”
I turned to walk away, too broken that I had been surrounded by fake people. But Mark rushed to hold me again.
“Not so fast, Martha. You are not leaving this house until we get married.”
“What? Put me down, Mark!” I screamed at him as he hoisted me over his shoulder and carried me back into the house.
Elena and Sandra moved aside for Mark to pass, and they didn’t try to stop him.
“Mark, you cannot force me to marry you. I will not marry you. Let me go!” I shouted, but Mark didn’t budge. He rushed upstairs, carrying me on his shoulder as I struggled to get down.
Mark arrived at my door and threw me back into the room.
Luckily, my handbag was on my arm, and I clutched it firmly and bit Mark’s hand as he tried to snatch it away.
Blood spurted from Mark’s hand, and he let go of me in the room.
“I will allow you to leave after the wedding. So remain here!” Mark slammed the door in my face and locked it from outside.
I scowled, anger coursing through my veins as I went back to sit on the bed.
I was too broken.
I pulled out my phone, knowing that it was the only option I had left.
I went online and started a live stream.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Martha Rogers. Unfortunately, after my father’s death, my stepmother and stepsister have made my life a living hell. They refused to support my education. They stole everything from me—I had to beg for food despite my father owning a multimillion-dollar company. They have even locked me up and want to force me to marry an ex-boyfriend who cheated on me with my stepsister. Please, I am calling on the Ruler, King Kendrick Jefferson, to come to my rescue.”
I turned my phone camera and recorded the locked door, my sparse room, and myself crying for help.
The live stream attracted 100,000 active viewers, and I posted it.
A few minutes later, my phone rang—it was Mr. Weston calling me immediately.
“Martha, where are you? What happened?”
“Sir, I didn’t want to call you.”
“Why? Did you think I would not show up if you called me? Now you’ve got King Kendrick involved. Damn it. I will come over to your place now. Send me your address.”
As soon as the call ended, I quickly forwarded the house address to my boss.
