'Don't you dare Melanie' Athena's voice comes through my head and I breathe deeply, letting my mate's scent calm my racing heart.
'What should I do?' I desperately ask her
'Find me after the meeting, our usual place' she says and I hum in response.
Aiden joins us and sits on the same couch as carl, still avoiding me.
He looks up clearing his throat "I have contacted all the alphas whose pack members were taken and we are meeting tomorrow"
"After we tell them what is happening, each pack will give a hundred soldiers and the training will begin immediately" he finishes
"That's okay with me, I already have 200 trained warriors," dad says looking at my mate.
"How many men do we have that can fight carl?" he faces his silent beta.
I wish I could just enter his heart and erase all the pain away.
"Around 250 " he mumbles after thinking for a while.
I can't stop thinking, what if these people go there and never come back?
I saw what those witches can do, they also said the king has thousands of men on his side.
These wolves have mates and possibly kids, what will happen if they all get killed?
He only wants one person, and this one person can save all these lives that might be wasted.
'Quit thinking that way, Mel. Believe in yourself, I believe in you' Athena says and I sigh.
What if I can really do it? What if I can save them and myself too?
"We need to hurry up, I can't let him kill my sister," dad says and my heart jumps in discomfort.
She shouldn't die, she's the only parent I knew since I was a kid. Even though we didn't get along, she made me who I am today.
"She won't dad, believe me okay?" I whisper squeezing his arm and he looks at me with soft eyes, full of care and love.
He looks helpless right now, everything is out of control for him and he seems almost defeated.
If I can only take that away.
"Promise me one thing" he mumbles gently caressing my hair.
"Anything dad," I say looking into his eyes, I wonder how I look exactly like him, he must be very proud.
"I know I can't stop what is about to happen, I have tried for years but look at me" he chuckles sadly pointing at himself
"I want you to be careful sweetheart, you are a brave girl and am very proud of you, promise me you'll be safe" he whispers and I frantically nod.
"I will dad, for you, I will" I show him how sincere I am with my eyes.
"What is happening, dad?" Ty breaks our moment and dad sighs looking at him
"Come with me" He stands up and kisses my head before leaving the room with Ty.
I am left with Aiden and Carl who are busy on their phones. That is a clue for me to go find Athena.
I stand up and immediately I do, Aiden looks up with a crease between his brows.
How cute!
"Where are you going?" I know better than lying to him but I can't mention her name with carl here. I look at carl and Aiden gets the memo.
"Give us a second carl," he tells his beta who stands up without objection.
"See you around princess" he ruffles my hair heading out.
Thank God I braided it.
I lower myself in my previous seat and look at the man opposite me. He questioningly raises his eyebrow at me and my heart squeezes.
He is acting different.
I look at my palms clearing my throat " I am meeting Athena" I say without looking up to see his reaction.
It's silent for a while and I don't look at him.
Aiden stands from his seat and walks to me, the same way he did when dad brought me here.
He sits beside me before pulling me onto his lap.
Fucking finally.
My legs wrap around him making my short dress pull up higher.
"Am sorry" He whispers kissing my nose and the sadness in my heart evaporates. My arms find his neck and I smile a little.
"I am not mad at you, am just stressed" he mumbles nibbling on my neck.
"Why can't I mark you again?" he asks lifting his face to look at me.
"If you mark me and we..you know, I will get pregnant" I explain
"You don't want to?" he asks again.
"Of course, no, but she said we have to do it after the mission," I say quickly
"I want to meet this woman," he says in all seriousness and I gulp. I can't say no to Aiden.
'Can he?' I ask the said woman and patiently wait for her reply.
'Yes, hurry up'
"She says yes," I say with a smile and he returns with a tired one.
This makes me more guilty.
"You mind link?" he asks and I look at him in confusion. What is the meaning of that?
"What is mind link?" I ask and he chuckles
"How do you communicate?" Aiden rephrases his question.
"She talks in my head and I reply the same way," I tell him enthusiastically and he laughs.
It's amazing I know.
"That is mind-linking baby, all wolfs do that," he says chuckling.
Fuck, am so dumb.
"You do that too?" I ask staring at his face
'Yes' his voice comes through my head and I smile.
"It's cool," I say hoping off his lap. I need answers from Athena right away.
"Let's go," I tell him taking his right hand and he smiles at the gesture
I lead Aiden to the same route I took last time and he silently follows without saying a word.
When we are almost at the cottage which am sure she has already set, in front of us appears a box.
It's medium and what catches my eyes are my full names written on it.
Like it was specifically sent to me.
I crouch down and lower my hands to open it but Aiden beats me to it.
"Let me," he says tearing the seal and its content brings me to my knees.
