VALERIE'S POV
I swear one more time I heard their bickering, I would lose my mind for real.
"Are you for real, Eve? We have discussed this before. Why are you changing plans at the last moment? We will go to the carnival, and then I will take you to your favorite restaurant. We all agreed to it, didn't we?" Monty looked at Eve, and I sat with my eyes closed after taking another sip from my drink.
These humans were funny at times, but most of the time, they were the real pain in the ass.
"Look at her enjoying the drink like she isn't even here or a part of this when she is the one who started it," Blue scoffed, and I opened my eyes.
I sighed. "Does my presence or opinion matter? Look at both of them bickering like a married couple. I don't want to be the third wheel here,"
"Hey!" Eve blushed hard, and Monty looked away with a shy smile.
"See, look at them. Did any of them even deny anything? Just smiling and blushing, as if I told them their fortune. I am out of this. Call me when you guys decide something, okay?" I was about to stand from my place when Blue smiled, looking behind me.
The familiar scent of one of my favorite people wafted through my nostrils, and a smile immediately stretched on my lips.
"I hope I didn't disturb you, my love," The man walked to me before kissing my head like a caring friend, and I smiled at the envy in the girls’ eyes around me.
"Look at this b*tch. How did she get this lucky?" Blue whispered to Brandon, who had a heavy scowl.
"Never. What brought you here?" I turned to Logan, who had his signature smirk.
"Nothing special. Shall we go?" He extended his hand for me to take, and I chuckled at his gentlemanly behavior.
"You are such a heart robber, I swear. How many girls would you fall in love with?" I asked.
"Don't worry. I have my eyes only on one. Let's say I am just waiting for this girl to turn to me and fall in love," he confessed in front of everyone, and some boys hooted, and I sighed.
"One more confession?" Blue murmured, and Logan tilted his head before grabbing my chin.
"One more?" He bent to my eye level, making my heart skip a beat.
Honestly, Logan was one of the most handsome men I have seen. Alpha Ambrose still tops that list, but Logan was not far away from it.
"Seriously? Do you want to do it here? Let's go," I immediately changed the topic so these guys don’t mention Ambrose before I winked at Blue.
"You are such a player, V," Blue shook her head at me, and I grinned.
Once we were out of the college grounds, I turned to Logan.
"So? What happened?"
"Can I not miss my best friend?" He faked a pouting look, and I looked into his eyes before nodding.
"No," I stared hard.
"Fine. You win. I got intel that some weird rogues were seen in this area. Also, -"
"Also, you were spying on me and got information that someone was in my apartment when I wasn't there, and I chased that person outside. I even shot that person and would've caught him if Alpha Ambrose hadn't interrupted me. That's why you rushed here the first thing once you were free from your unavoidable duties," I said, and he coughed to hide the awkwardness.
"What? Stop looking at me like I committed some sin. You know exactly why I have people looking over for you,” Logan pouted.
“Did they tell you Alpha Ambrose was with me the entire time?" I asked.
He sighed. "If I could really trust anyone with you, I wouldn't be here, no?"
His comment made me smile, and I hooked my arms with his.
"God knows what I am going to do with you. You can't act like this and rush here, leaving your work every time I am in some kind of danger," I smiled, thinking about a particular man who used to do the same.
The smile on my face faltered as I remembered Alpha Ambrose. It's been three days since I talked to him. Neither has he made a move to initiate any conversation nor has he reached out to me.
I even tried calling him, but there was no news. He didn’t pick up or call back.
As much as I hate to think negatively about things, a part of my mind believes he is like this because I denied joining his pack. And that thinking disturbs me.
Will we really drift apart because of this thing? Maybe it wasn't small for him? But it wasn't small for me either.
If he was wondering why I couldn't join the pack and maybe I was rejecting his life, I can wonder the same thing as to why he can't understand me and accept me as I am.
"Hey, where are you lost? I asked if you would visit the council this weekend. Dad misses his favorite troublemaker," Logan flicked my nose.
"Maybe sometime in the future. If things didn't work here, where would I go?" I whispered the last part.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing. Let's catch up while eating?" I asked, and he hummed, his narrowed eyes a clear indication that he knew something was wrong with me today.
"Club?" Logan rather offered.
"It's early evening," I raised my brows.
"It's not like all clubs open at night only," he grinned before he grabbed my hand and pulled me to his sports car.
"Look, I have no idea what is on your mind and bothering you. If you want someone to share it with, you can tell me about it. If you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t force you. However, as your best friend, it's my duty to improve this mood and bring a genuine smile to your face rather than this fake one that you are forcing,"
Logan opened the door for me before practically pushing me into the seat dramatically, and I chuckled.
"That was mean," I rubbed my arm, and he rolled his eyes.
"Not meaner than what you've done to me in the past," Logan's words made me grin.
Of course not. I have done things to him, I would never want anyone to do to me. It started with a small quarrel, but then it proceeded to straight plotting. The kind of plotting that gave me the famous name 'troublemaker' in the council.
After a dragging silence, I sighed.
"I feel weird. Honestly, I was a little scared when I saw that man in my apartment. It was quite a shock and nerve-wracking. For the first time after such a long period, I felt vulnerable, and I didn't like the feeling," I looked at Logan, who looked at me from the corner of his eyes.
"Do you want to come back to the college near the council? That way you can come and live with the council if you want. I promise I will keep you safe," Logan looked at me briefly.
"I never doubted that," I placed my hand on his hand, resting on the steering wheel.
"Will you stop?"
"Stop what?" I asked, confused.
"Making my heart flutter like this," Logan sighed, and I immediately removed my hand from the top of his. However, as soon as I did that, he held my hand in a tight grip before turning to me and intertwining our fingers.
"Never withdraw from me just because you are afraid of what I feel. My feelings are my problem, not yours. Got it? I deserve every bit of this friendship and all the purity and liability that comes with it, and you can’t take it away from me. Your job is to stay carefree and be your usual funky self around me. That's exactly how I and everyone like you," Logan said, and I smiled.
Sometimes, I really feel jealous of Logan. If I had been born into a council member family like him, then I would've gotten this amazing trait of getting to choose your mate, and I swear I would've chosen Logan in an instant.
I don't love him, but sometimes love is not the only thing you need to live with someone compassionately. The way he cares for me and looks at me, I know it would be really hard to find a man like him.
'What about Alpha Ambrose?' Adele asked, and I paused my trail of thoughts.
My mind took a U-turn to his luscious lips, who whispered sweet nothings in my ears the whole night because he could feel I was startled. His veined-strong hands make you want to drop your bras and panties to let him touch you to places you won't allow anyone, and his study chest was better than any cushion in the world, despite its hardness.
Ambrose's melodious voice arouses you immediately, and the sexiest part of his body, his eyes, drown you in their never-ending depth of emotions. The way he sneaks inside your clothes with his hands -
"You are spacing out again," Logan muttered, and I shook out of my naughty thoughts before looking around when I realized we were not moving anymore.
"Let's go. Let me take your mind off whatever that is troubling you," Logan rushed to my side and held my hand before pulling me out.
'Oh boy, you can't take her mind off what she is thinking about,' Adele commented, and I felt heat creeping up my neck at her insinuation.
"Come and rock this booty," Logan sat on the bar as he twirled me around like I was some kind of dancer before taking some cash from his pocket and placing it in my pocket, and I grinned at his ways.
Anyone who doesn't know him would've felt offended, but I know what exactly he meant by this.
"Want me to show you what a dance looks like?" I grabbed his collar before pulling him close to my face.
"Don't blame me later," I warned, and his eyes immediately widened when I started to back away from him, moving my hips to the beats.
The belly dancer I lived with for two months and took some lessons from her was of great use at times like these.
Moving my waist along the rhythm, I started matching the movements with my breasts and navel before losing my long hair, which always worked as great seduction on men.
Raising my hand in the air and crossing them, I walked to Logan before sitting on his lap and hooking my arm around his neck, pulling his face closer to my chest, and his increased heartbeat was enough indication that he was shocked.
"Want me to give you a lap dance?" I whispered into his ears sensually, running my finger on the side of his chin, and he gulped, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. I smiled, kissing his cheek before flicking his forehead.
"Don't ask for things you can't handle," I winked at Logan, who looked still in shock before I sat in the adjacent seat and ordered a drink for both of us.
"You weren't joking when you said you were learning it," Logan shifted closer to me, and I was about to answer him when I felt ‘his’ presence behind me.
"I am glad you could join us, Alpha Ambrose," Logan said, and I gulped, afraid to turn around.
Did he see my little stunt earlier?
I turned around to face the man, who stood there with his jaws squared, and I looked away immediately.
He didn't even gaze at me. Was it true he was really offended that I denied his offer? But he was normal that day and said he didn't mind. So what happened for him to react like that?
Did I do something in my sleep that slipped out my secret to him? I thought and looked down at my drink, feeling uncomfortable, and I bet Logan could sense it too, because his gaze immediately shifted to mine. His narrowed eyes were a clear indication.
