AMBROSE'S POV
I know what I was doing was wrong, but I don't exactly have a choice here. This was the only way I could find out more about her and get my hands on her real information.
Maybe if I spied on her, I would be able to understand what went through her head that Valerie acted like that with me.
Was it for the safety of her kid, or was she scared of something else? Though I hate that she lied to me, I can't deny the fact that she had tried to avoid me from day one, and I was adamant about knowing her.
I climbed the pipes before jumping on her balcony, heaving a sigh of relief.
"So? What brought you here?" I heard Valerie pour some juice.
Someone else was there with her.
Who could it be? Another rogue? But the smell is different. It doesn't smell like a rogue in there. Rather someone powerful. Does that mean she already has a powerful boyfriend, and that's why she denied my proposal? Even the thought of it being true filled me with rage. No. I can’t just make baseless speculations like that.
"Will you believe me if I say I missed you?" The man asked, and I rolled my eyes.
"Only if I were a fool," Valerie scoffed.
"Well, you got your answer. It's work-related, but it's true that I came because I wanted to come and check on you,"
"To see if I caused some havoc or not," Valerie spoke again, and judging from their choice of words, either they weren't related or too comfortable with each other.
"You can't exactly blame me for that, can you? You haven't exactly shown the behavior of an ideal rogue. But maybe that's what I like about you," the man said, and I gritted my teeth.
I have to see the face of this man. I want to see what he has that I don’t. I know I was acting like the most irrational person on Earth when I didn’t even like her, but I didn’t care at the moment.
"Where are you going?"
"Nothing. I feel like there's someone on the balcony," Valerie said, and I widened my eyes before looking down.
Should I jump on someone else's balcony? If I jump from here, irrespective of being an alpha, it will hurt terribly, and I might break a few bones.
"It might just be the pack patrol, sweetheart. I felt the Alpha's presence long ago. Wait. Don't tell me your paranoia that someone is following you has started again," The man said, and I sighed in relief.
"It's not paranoia, Logan! Don't spout nonsense if you don't know what I go through. You are not the one who is cur -" she stopped before sighing.
"I am sorry. I didn't mean to raise my voice," Valerie immediately calmed, and I didn't like how she was so docile in front of this Logan guy but acted like a girl in periods around me.
Wait. Valerie said ‘Logan’. This man's presence is strong too. Don't tell me the man inside is the council head's son.
The council sent a special order to look after the rogue ‘Valerie Katya’ arriving here on a student exchange program. Is it because the council's head's son has a special relationship with her?
"How is my Emo doing? Is he sleeping?" Logan asked after some time, and I scrunched my brows.
Who is emo now?
"He is sleeping. Do you think it would've been so quiet if he knew you were here?" Valerie spoke with a smile, and I hated how casual and natural her smile was with him.
"I know, right? He loves his dad," Logan said, and I widened my eyes in shock.
"You are not his dad. You stopped being his dad the moment you left him with me. I am a single mom," Valerie chuckled.
So this is the b*stard who impregnated her at such a young age and got her thrown out of the pack? And now, after having a kid with her, he is letting her roam like this when he can clearly take care of her?
The nerve of this guy!
I couldn't control my emotions anymore as I ran inside, making Valerie widen her eyes, and Logan immediately stood in front of her protectively.
So now he wants to protect her, huh?
"What the hell?" Logan looked at me.
"You bastard! What kind of man are you? You impregnated her and then left her alone to suffer? Is this why the safety of Valerie Katya was so important to you, but you couldn't care about her yourself?" I asked, and before looking at Valerie, who appeared too shocked to even react.
"Impregnated? Is there a misunderstanding? What do you mean I impregnated her? I mean, it's indeed my dream to have s*x with her, but she doesn't even let me touch - owww," Logan massaged his head when Valerie hit him.
"What are you doing here, Alpha? I thought I made it clear that I don't want to have anything related to you," Valerie looked at me emotionlessly, and I felt stabbed in my heart.
How can she go from completely jolly to so hard-hearted like this? Does she hate my presence so much?
"You guys know each other?" Logan looked between us before nodding.
"So you were indeed doing a good job in keeping an eye on her. Now I understand why she hasn't created havoc yet," Logan nodded, and the more he spoke, the more confused I became.
Why was he acting so calmly? Wasn't he ashamed that his secret was out?
"I just found out today that she is Valerie Katya," I confessed, and Logan looked at Valerie, who sat on the chair.
"Sit," she said, and I sat while Logan sat beside her, placing a hand over hers, making me clench my teeth.
“I hid my identity from him because I didn’t want another alpha lurking at my doors all the time. ” Valerie’s expression was calm, and Logan thinned his lips.
Is this some kind of silent conversation they are having? They are not related, and she is unmarked, so there is no way he can talk to her through mind-link.
Pouring myself some juice, I took a sip before pausing abruptly.
Meow! Meow!
I heard the sound, and I looked at Valerie in shock. I know I call her a cat, but there is no way she would use this method to annoy me and dodge answering, right?
I scrunched my brows when I realized the noise was coming from somewhere else.
"Oh my! Emo, did momma wake you up?" Valerie's words made me spit the juice on Logan, and he glared at me.
"Seriously, dude? Do you hate me or something?" Logan asked before he went inside the guest room.
"You still haven't told me what you are doing here," Valerie spoke again with her cat in her hands.
As much as I hate my mind to even think about it, I wanted to ask her.
"This is your two-year-old kid, who is in the kid care center all the time," I asked, and she nodded, shocking me.
"Yes. Kids love him, and it helps us earn some money too. Logan picked him for me because traveling all the time alone can get lonely," she hugged the cat like a baby.
"Why didn't you tell me you were Valerie Katya?"
"You never asked me my full name," she answered, and I stared at her.
Seriously? Is this what she is going to use?
“You deliberately told me your name was Valeriana when I asked you to confirm it,” I sighed. Well, she already answered it. She didn’t want any alpha like me lurking there.
"What is your relationship with Logan?" I asked.
"He is -"
"-her boyfriend. Now, will you tell us what you are doing, sneaking up at a rogue like this? I know rogues are intolerable, and you want to keep your pack safe, but I am sure she didn't do something so grave that you had come here at this time. She is a girl, alpha," Logan kissed her temple before kissing the cat, and I looked at Valerie, who looked back at me with an unflinching gaze.
Were they a thing? She kept me in the dark for so long. I know I was overbearing, but was it hard to tell me she had a boyfriend? That someone has already claimed her? I might be a little dominating, but I am not a jerk to like someone else's girl.
It must've been fun for her to see me acting like a fool in front of her, no? I looked at the girl in front of me before standing from my chair.
I was here for answers to know why she lied to me, but I got more answers than I needed.
"You can go through the door," She said, not a hint of remorse in her eyes.
I meant nothing to her ever. All the desire she felt towards me was indeed her animalistic urge and nothing more. I smiled before nodding.
"If you are in the area already, come to the pack and introduce this rogue properly. I came to know about her true identity by mistake today. I need a proper explanation on why she was hiding her identity and posing a threat to the pack," I looked at Logan.
"Since this is your first time, I will let this slide, but you better not cross paths with me," I looked at the girl, whose gaze flinched for a second, making me wonder if what I saw was even real or not.
"Don't worry. You won't see me much," Valerie stood from her place with a stoic expression before walking to the balcony, and I nodded before walking out of the apartment.
'This doesn't feel real. I feel like something is missing. Like, Valerie is hiding something from us. There has to be a reason why she is -'
'There is no reason, Cyrus. We were fools this time. We saw a beautiful girl and mistook her for being genuine. She never liked our presence. It has always been us. Everything was just a facade to keep us happy so that we don't react to her presence here and she can live happily,' I interrupted my wolf before walking to my car.
So it turned out she was just like everyone else. A rogue, who loves to deceive people. She didn't exactly have a reason. Everything was probably just fun for her. She enjoyed playing with my feelings, no? I scoffed before starting the car angrily.
