CHAPTER 27

CHAPTER 27
It was high time I spoke to Rory about everything. I wanted to be sure that he was behind all of this. I mean, it had felt like we were having a peaceful pack and maybe, I was doing well until this.

I knew Jules and Rory didn't like me from inception, but after the fight they acted like they'd repented—or so I thought. But Dolphus had warned me countless times about them.

There was just so much on my mind. Dolphus, Rory and Jules, Skai, the pack as a whole and then, Tatum.

“Gosh! I'm just eighteen.” I muttered. I think I was just too young to have all this bother me.

I picked up my phone and rang Skai. “Hey Lay.” Her voice said from the phone.

“Hey Mama. I'll not be in school today. Please come meet after class, we've got to talk.” I said softly.

“Are you good?” She asked, her voice gulled with worry.

“I guess I am.”

She kept quiet for a minute. I knew if she had her ways, she'd be in my house within seconds. Skai never wanted to see me worried. “I'm good. Dolphus is with me. I'll see you soon, Mama.” I said, then hung up.

Rory was coming towards me, and I believed it was high time we spoke.

“Hey, Alpha Alaya.” He said.

If I had my way, I'd slit his throat. I just dreaded him over again. “Are you mocking me or something?” I asked.

His smile turned to a frown immediately, as he came in closer to me. “What do you mean by mocking you? I'm just greeting. Why are you acting strange, Alaya?”

I hissed. “Talking and acting strange? Rory, what's up with you? What did I ever do to you and Jules?”

He looked me dead in the eye, “You assumed my position as Alpha, Alaya. You stole my birth right.”

“Stole?”

He shook his head, and waved his hands dismissively, “Look, that's in the past. I'm not going back there again. We should find a way to work on our pack.”

He glared at him. A lot was going through my mind. I knew he was still hurt from the fact that I'd assumed the throne of the Alpha. Was that why he did that to Dolphus?

He brought me out of my well of thoughts, “I know that Dolphus was injured. I know that he was sick from his wolf out.”

I paused, my heart skipped for a second. “You knew?”

“Yes, I know. And it's fine, I didn't tell the elders so you can relax.”

I raised a brow, “How did you know? Evidence that you had a hand in this.”

He scoffed, “Had a hand in this, Alaya? Is this what you really think of me?”

I sighed deeply. This was all crazy, but how did he know about it? I really hoped he didn't tell the elders, because if he did, it meant there was a traitor in the pack and as an Alpha, I had to be available to make sure that traitor was destroyed.

“How the hell did you know about Dolphus' illness?” I asked again.

“Alaya, I'm an Alpha. Or maybe, was an Alpha. I'm the son of the late Alpha. I can smell farther than you can imagine.”

Then it hit me. My powers? Were they gone? I didn't feel or smell as usual.

He looked at me for a while, “you're worried about your powers?”

I gazed at him, but said nothing. He continued, “I know you've got powers, Alaya. Strong ones. You could scent me in the woods from afar, even when I was hidden. Also, if you could tell last night that Dolphus was sick from the inside, it means your powers are still intact. But, your halfblood—yoir human nature precedes your wolf, so your powers might be subdued most times. And you're a really lucky halfblood between.”

He was right. I was a really lucky halfblood. Half bloods didn't have powers. My Daada was right — I was indeed so special.

“Rory, if you didn't do that to Dolphus, then who did?” I asked.

He smiled, “now, you're actually being a reasonable Alpha. I don't know who did it, but I'm here to find out too. Suspected that Lone wolf who joined our pack, but he was in his chamber all through the night. I've been watching him.”

“Elias?”

Rory nodded. “Yeah. I don't think it was him, but I'm also worried about Elias. He's been more lonely than a lone wolf.”

“I haven't even spoken to him. I feel like he's been hurt so badly.” I said.

“Yeah, I guess. Thought he was not to be trusted at first, but he'd told me he saw someone outside that night. And I'd spoken to Jules about it. I still suspected him, but I watched him through the night. He was in his chamber.”

“That's why You and Jules were out at night?” I asked.

“Yes, Alaya. Elias is lonely and hurt, I guess.”

I sighed. I was an Alpha that almost didn't know what was going on in my pack. This was a lot on me, on one person. I almost wanted to tell Rory to assist me, but that was why I had Dolphus.

Rory held my hands, “I'm not the villain, Alaya. I love this pack, just as my dad loved it. I could help you.”

I took my hands off his immediately. For some reason, it was annoying and suspicious that he was doing that. I didn't even know who tj believe anymore. But if I needed someone to Helo out with my duties, it was obviously my mate.

“I have a mate, Dolphus. He'll be of great help.” I said.

“He is sick, and he's half-blood.”

“Half-bloods are still wolves, Rory.” I shot back. “Stop capitalizing on the fact that he's half-blood.”

Rory stared at him, shocked that I raised my voice so hard. “I'm not talking down on half-bloods, but you know what I mean. You and Dolphus aren't even mates, Alaya. You know that that's a risk too.”

My eyes widened, “who said we aren't mates. When did you start choosing mates for people?”

“I don't. The moon goddess does, and she clearly didn't choose Dolphus for you. He's wise, loyal and smart—obviously good human features, but he's weak in his wolf. Both of you do not even have a mating mark. How sad!”

My chest was fuming with anger and pain. Rory knew? How many other people in the pack knew that Dolphus and I weren't actual mates? The thought of that scared me.

“Dolphus, how do you know this?” I asked, my voice trembling.

“It's evidential.” He responded.

My eyes widened again, my chest tightened too. “It is?”

He held my hands, turned around like someone was watching and dragged me into my chamber.
