Chapter 20

We did some little outings together to get to know ourselves more. One day after our outing to the park, I wemt home and he went home too.

As Tatum made his way home, his thoughts were consumed by our conversation and the unexpected connection he felt with me. Never before had he encountered someone who understood him so effortlessly, someone who brought a sense of lightness and joy into his life with just a few words and a genuine smile.

As he walked, his mind drifted back to our conversation at the park, the way I had listened to him without judgment and offered my support without hesitation. It was a feeling he couldn't quite describe, a sense of comfort and warmth that he hadn't experienced in a long time.

Lost in thought, Tatum barely noticed when he arrived at his doorstep, his mind still swirling with thoughts of me. It was only when his friends, sensing his distraction, teased him about his newfound infatuation that he snapped back to reality.

"Come on, Tatum, admit it," one of his friends joked, nudging him playfully. "You've got a crush on Alaya, don't you?"

Tatum's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but he couldn't deny the truth in their words. "Yeah, I guess I do," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "I've never felt this way about anyone before."

His friends laughed, teasing him mercilessly as they playfully speculated about our budding romance. But deep down, Tatum couldn't shake the feeling that there was something special about our connection, something worth exploring further.

As he settled into bed that night, his thoughts still consumed by thoughts of me, Tatum couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for the days ahead. Whatever the future held, he knew that one thing was certain – his encounter with me had changed him in ways he never could have imagined, and for that, he was grateful. And with that thought in mind, he drifted off to sleep, a smile playing at the corners of his lips as he dreamed of the possibilities that lay ahead.

As Tatum made his way home, his footsteps were slow and deliberate, his mind consumed by thoughts of our conversation. Each word I had spoken replayed in his mind like a broken record, each moment we shared etched into his memory with startling clarity.

Lost in thought, he barely noticed the familiar streets passing by, his senses dulled by the intensity of his introspection. It was only when he arrived at his doorstep that he snapped out of his reverie, the reality of his surroundings pulling him back to the present.

As he stepped inside, he was greeted by the familiar sight of his friends lounging in the living room, their laughter and banter filling the air. But even their cheerful demeanor couldn't dispel the heaviness that weighed on his heart, the weight of his newfound feelings for me.

"Tatum, buddy, you're home!" one of his friends exclaimed, clapping him on the back with a grin. "You seem a bit distracted. Everything okay?"

Tatum forced a smile, his mind still lingering on our conversation. "Yeah, I'm fine," he replied, his voice betraying none of the turmoil brewing beneath the surface.

But his friends were quick to pick up on his subdued demeanor, their playful banter turning to concern as they sensed that something was amiss.

"Come on, Tatum, spill it," another friend urged, his tone gentle yet insistent. "What's been on your mind lately?"

Tatum hesitated, unsure of how to articulate the whirlwind of emotions that churned within him. But as he met their expectant gazes, he knew that he couldn't keep his feelings bottled up any longer.

"It's... it's Alaya," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "I can't stop thinking about her."

His friends exchanged knowing glances, their expressions a mixture of amusement and understanding. It was clear to them that Tatum had developed feelings for me, feelings that ran deeper than he was willing to admit.

"Ah, so it finally happened," one of his friends teased, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. "You've fallen for the mysterious alpha, haven't you?"

Tatum's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but he couldn't deny the truth in his friend's words. "I guess I have," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "But what am I supposed to do about it?"

His friends chuckled, their laughter echoing off the walls as they playfully speculated about the potential for romance between us. But amidst the teasing and jesting, Tatum couldn't shake the feeling that there was something special about our connection, something worth exploring further.

After I got home, I decide to call Skai. As I dialed her number, my mind buzzed with thoughts of Tatum and the complexities of our relationship. Despite the undeniable connection we shared, I knew that my feelings for him didn't extend beyond friendship. Still, there was something undeniably special about him, something that set him apart from every other human I had ever encountered.

When Skai answered the phone, her voice was filled with warmth and curiosity. "Hey, Alaya, what's up?" she greeted.

"Hey, Skai," I replied, my voice tinged with excitement. "I need to talk to you about something. It's about Tatum."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could practically hear Skai's interest piquing. "What about him?" she asked eagerly.

"I don't know how to explain it," I began, struggling to find the right words to convey the complexity of my feelings. "But there's something about him that's... different. He's not like anyone else I've ever met."

Skai listened intently as I poured out my thoughts and feelings, sharing my observations about Tatum and the way he carried himself. Despite the darkness that seemed to cloud his spirit, there was a spark within him, a glimmer of potential waiting to be unleashed.

As I spoke, Skai remained silent, allowing me to articulate the depths of my emotions without interruption. When I finally finished, there was a moment of silence before she spoke again.

"It sounds like you really care about him, Alaya," she said softly, her voice filled with empathy. "But just remember, it's okay to care about someone without being romantically involved. Sometimes, being a friend is all they need."

I nodded, grateful for Skai's words of wisdom. "You're right," I agreed. "I just want to be there for him, to help him find his way out of the darkness he's in."

Skai smiled, her understanding evident even through the phone. "Then that's exactly what you should do," she replied. "Just be there for him, Alaya. Sometimes, that's all anyone needs."

With Skai's words ringing in my ears, I hung up the phone, feeling a sense of clarity and determination wash over me. Whatever the future held for Tatum and me, I knew that our friendship was worth cherishing, worth nurturing with care and compassion. And as I drifted off to sleep that night, thoughts of Tatum and the bond we shared filled my dreams, guiding me towards a future filled with hope and possibility
