Chapter Ninety-Four
Ajax POV
“How much did you drink Dimitri?” I asked.
He wobbled towards me. It took a lot to get a wolf drunk but he looked totally drunk.
“I haven’t stopped drinking since she died. This is my fault. I never should have convinced her to come here. We should have started our lives far from you!”
“About that—”
“Everything concerning you ends up dead! Remi, her child now Rebecca. You’re cursed, Alpha Ajax! Cursed.”
“Enough!” I shoved him back.
I didn’t push him that hard but he landed on his ass anyway.
Dimitri sobbed uncontrollably. I dragged a hand down my face.
Why me?
“Alright, get up.” I patted his shoulder. “We have to figure out who killed Rebecca. You said you knew who killed her.”
He picked himself up and dusted off his clothes. “Oscar.”
“What?” I barked. “My brother?”
“Is there another Oscar? I’m talking about the Alpha.”
“He’s in a wheelchair how would he—” He could have hired someone but why?
“She was pregnant but she said it wasn’t my baby.”
“Don’t tell me you think it’s Oscar’s this is too much for one man!”
“She was messing around with him and he’s such a douchebag… I hate him.”
He got two women pregnant at the same time this is too much even for Oscar. Delanie was right. Rebecca had been pregnant and Shaina was acting suspiciously. Shaina covered up the pregnancy to protect her lover.
This Pack has too many problems for me.
“Get home sleep it off and don’t drink until we speak again.”
“You can’t order me around,” he slurred.
“We need to talk and we can’t do that when you’re drunk. You either sleep it off or I’ll knock the alcohol out of you, got it?”
He grumbled, “Fine.”
Dimitri was too drunk to help me get my car out of the ditch so I had no choice but to summon all my strength and pull the vehicle out of the ditch. At least it still worked. I drove back to the hotel. Tired, frustrated and pissed beyond measure. Only my mate’s warm body could calm me.
I walked into the room expecting to find Delanie asleep but the only one sleeping was Annika. Delanie buried her head in her laptop, nibbling on her fingernails and barely heard me come in.
“Shouldn’t you be sleeping, mate?”
“I can’t sleep. I need to know how to kill a goddess.”
“A car doesn’t work, trust me.”
She turned to me. “What?”
“Nothing.” I climbed into bed and rested on my back. “You’re not going to find anything online, Delanie. Information like that is stored in caves and coven libraries.”
A grin spread on her face. “That’s what you think. I found a group chat with some interesting information on how to trap a goddess.”
I groaned and yanked the covers over my head.
“Hey! Don’t hide from me this looks like real information.”
“Or it could get us all killed.”
“We have to try something.”
She yanked the covers off my head. “I know, so I sent Ross to Star City to look for help. We need magic and powerful magic.”
“This group chat says purple gems are powerful enough to counter goddess magic. They grow underground near water and are said to slow magic down enough to capture a goddess.”
“What type of purple gems, Delanie?” I wanted to humour her.
“Venus stones which are dark purple. See,” she turned the laptop towards me.
Venus is the moon’s natural enemy. Okay her group chat might be on to something.
“So they’re found underground near water? That could be anywhere, babe.”
“I’ve done the hard part, Ajax.” She closed the laptop and set it aside.
I tugged her waist and brought her down to my body. I caressed her thigh and brought it up to my hip.
“You were right, Princess.”
“About what?” she asked.
I relayed everything I found out tonight. I contemplated not telling her about Remi but didn’t want to keep secrets from my mate. Talking about everything brought back suppressed emotions and anger, though I didn’t want to burn the Pack to a crisp anymore. I couldn’t stand my Father and brother though. If Reign hadn’t killed him then he was lucky but he was in a lot of shit.
“Babe, I’m sorry. I don’t know how you feel.”
I caressed her cheek. “It’s okay. At least I know now. I know what a monster my Father is and what a coward my brother is.”
“Oscar… he’s been a busy boy, huh?”
“Too busy,” I grumbled. “Get some rest. We’ve got a long day tomorrow.”
She snuggled up beside me and shut her eyes. I kissed her forehead and breathed in her scent. Just having her close soothed my wild soul.
***
Delanie and Annika had plans with Ainsley which put me at ease because I didn’t want them near the house for a while. I drove to Cheryl’s home because she had news of her time in our house. I was glad she was alive though.
“Alpha, come in,” she said and stepped aside.
“Got something for me?”
“Yes, I found something in the guest room to identify the goddess we’re dealing with. She’s a lesser goddess, the moon goddess’ younger sister. Her magic is dark and reeks of jealousy and disaster.”
“Why did she help me when I was about to die?”
Cheryl rubbed her hand with a kitchen towel and tossed it on the table. She leaned back and exhaled. “The moon goddess loves her werewolves and I believe this isn’t the first time the lesser goddess has done something like this. If she doesn’t get Annika to uphold the deal that was formed when she gave Delanie a portion of her power, then she will kill your mate.”
“No,” I barked. “That can’t happen.” I stood and paced to the window. I stared out to the vibrant green and red front lawn a contrast to the darkness in my soul right now.
She might as well kill me because I can’t live without my mate and I won’t give up my daughter either. This plan is foolish and insane!
“What do I do? How do we kill her?”
“You can’t just kill a goddess Ajax. These are incredibly powerful creatures.”
“Delanie found out about Venus stones that are powerful enough to block a goddess’ magic.”
“Not forever, Ajax. Our only option is to make another deal with a different goddess,” Cheryl's serious stare had no wiggle room for jokes. She was dead serious.
