Chapter 56

Scarlet Wolff

My lips curled up in a weak smile as I stood in front of the mirror, checking myself out.

I had been lying on my bed for hours, scrolling through my phone in a bid to get myself distracted, but everything that happened kept clawing back into my head, driving me crazy.

I picked up my phone once I was done, and a text from Derek welcomed me.

'Send me your address. I will pick you up'

'Send me the address of the restaurant. I'll meet you there'
I replied to his text, slipping my phone inside my purse.

My gaze dropped to the pair of blue baggy jeans trousers curled around my tiny waist, and the white crop top hugging my body tightly, leaving out my flat stomach.

"Is this shoe a perfect fit?" I muttered, giving the pair of black sandals another thought.

"Maybe I should change into another pair of shoes." I told myself, getting rid of the sandals. I was about to go get another pair of shoes when my phone screen lit up with a text from Derek. It was the address of the restaurant.

'I will be there shortly'.
I replied to his text and tossed my phone beside me on the bed before going ahead to wear the pair of blue sneakers that I had picked.

I could barely slid my feet into one of the shoes when a car hooted from outside, causing me to roll my eyes. I knew at the first sound that it was Vladimir. He has never had a visitor ever since I've been staying here, neither was I expecting someone, so I was certain he was the one hooting.

The hoot came on the second time, and I groaned angrily, throwing my shoes beside me before going to the window to check from there. Just as I had thought, it was him. By why the fuck was he hooting? Can't he fucking get off the car?

I left my room and headed downstairs angrily, throwing the door open as soon as I arrived at the front door, only to be welcomed by a funny sight.

Lucien looked wasted and reeked of alcohol. His body was leaning against the young man who just brought him home, and his arm around his neck.

"Good day, Ms."

I lifted my gaze to the man. He was tall, masculine body. Oval-shaped face with sharp jawlines, a pair of sparkling almond eyes, and a pale white skin. He was about thirty-five years old, if I wasn't mistaken.

"Uhm... good day."

"Can I come in, please?"

"Oh, yes. I'm sorry." I left the door wide open for him, and he dragged Lucien inside. Man was already fast asleep. Why the fuck did he get so drunk?

He took Lucien upstairs while I followed him, and when they arrived at his room, the man turned to look at me.

"Can you unlock the door, please?"

"I don't know his passcode." I told him.

"Shit!" He groaned, almost silently. He looked like he was going to collapse anytime soon, and I understood. Even I would feel the same way if I was to carry someone this huge.

"You can bring him to my room." I hesitated before stepping in to help, and relief flashed through his eyes.

I led him to my room, and he threw Lucien on the bed once we got inside, exhaling deeply.

He helped Lucien remove his shoes and socks, before tucking him under the duvet. Once he was done, he turned to me with a soft smile on his face.

"Thank you for allowing me to bring him in here."
The way he took care of Lucien, I could tell that they must be really close. I had never seen Lucien with any friend, and I could remember my dad mentioning it back then that Lucien barely kept friends.

"It's fine." I forced a smile.

"Forgive my manners... My name is Vladimir. I'm Mr. Lucien's assistant." He held out his hand for a handshake, and I quickly took it politely.

"It's nice to meet you." His smiles looked and felt weird. Maybe I was just making things up, but a part of me was definitely sure about it.

"The pleasure is all mine."

"Uhm... I guess I have to leave now. I will leave him to you. I have something to take care of."

"Huh?" I batted my eyelashes as my eyes narrowed.

"Is there a problem?" He raised his eyebrows, his eyes boring into mine questioningly, and I quickly shook my head.

"It's nothing. Sure. I will take care of him."

After he left, I exhaled, running my fingers through my already neatly arranged hair. For fuck's sake, I have plans with Derek!

"Ugh! This is messed up." I threw myself beside him on the bed, resisting the urge to yell because I was so fucking frustrated.

My gaze dropped to Lucien whose eyes were closed, and I exhaled. Only one question echoed in my head. What does he do?

I won't lie, a part of me was now scared after last night. I didn't mean to, but I now feel unsafe around him, and the fact that he doesn't want to talk about what he does makes him even more suspicious.

I exhaled, reaching for my phone. I guess I have to cancel on Derek. I wished I had a choice, but I didn't.

'I'm sorry, Derek. Something came up, and I'm not sure I'll be able to show up. I will make it up to you some other time, I promise. I'm really sorry about this'.
