Chapter 123

Chapter 123

Only Ironclaw came along as the driver. The rest were still on their way, so Damien had to stall Milo for a while.

Damien's expression grew darker by the second.

The car pulled up and Damien stepped out. That's when Milo spotted him.

"You actually came here alone?"

Milo hadn't expected Damien to show up this fast. For a moment he wondered if someone had leaked the location. But when he saw there were only two of them, he smiled.

"Looks like this Mona means a lot to you. Too bad — I was looking forward to having some fun with her."

Mona's beauty had caught Milo's eye as well. He looked at Damien with a smug, mocking grin.

"Where's the person?"

"Where's the item?"

Both spoke at the same time.

"I need to see her first. Don't even think about getting the Celestial Stone until I do." Damien stared at Milo and said coldly.

Milo had no choice but to take Damien inside. When Mona saw Damien walk in, her dazed and cloudy eyes suddenly lit up.

"You actually came!" She was deeply moved, but her body was suspended in the air and she was too weak to do more than breathe out the words in a faint whisper.

"You've seen her. Now where's the item?" Milo asked again.

Damien smiled slightly and pulled something out of his pocket.

Milo tensed up at first, but the thing was small and didn't look like a gun, so he relaxed. The next second, Damien came straight at him.

Milo immediately drew his gun and fired.

But the bullet seemed to hit an invisible wall right before it reached Damien, then veered off in another direction.

Milo thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. He could actually see a faint blue transparent wave of light wrapped around Damien's body.

Milo and his men fired several more shots. Every single one did the same thing.

By then Damien had already closed the distance. He stripped Milo of his weapon, snapped one of his arms out of commission with a sharp twist, and took him hostage.

"Don't move! Everyone drop your weapons!" Damien pressed the gun barrel to Milo's head and shouted.

Milo's men didn't dare attack, but they didn't dare drop their weapons either.

Ironclaw used the moment to get Mona down and free her.

Right then, Ares arrived with his people.

"Get out of here — I'll cover the rear!" Damien said quickly.

Ironclaw knew Damien was carrying a new weapon developed by Ghosthand. He grabbed Mona and left without hesitation.

"Damien, so what if you got her out? You're not going anywhere!" Milo snarled through the pain, still running his mouth.

Damien kept a stone-cold face and dragged Milo backward with him.

What he'd pulled out earlier was actually a newly developed Electromagnetic Shield from Ghosthand. Once activated, it formed an electromagnetic barrier around the body that made the user completely bulletproof. But it had one critical flaw — the bullet immunity only lasted fifteen seconds after activation. Still, those fifteen seconds had given Damien the opening he needed to get close to Milo. Without it, he never could have reached him.

Meanwhile, Ironclaw left with Mona and ran into Eloise not long after. He handed Mona over to her and asked her to get Mona to a hospital, then turned back to go help Damien.

"Take my people with you!" Eloise said, and shot a look at her men.

"Thank you."

Ironclaw gave Eloise a quick nod and headed back with the group.

Back where Damien was, with Ares now in the fight, Milo had gotten free. He stood to the side with one arm hanging limp, watching Damien with cold, vicious eyes.

Ares carried a massive sword. Every swing cut through the air with a thunderous roar. He brought it down hard at Damien.

Damien had no choice but to get out of the way, stepping back and twisting aside as the blade crashed down in front of him.

Even though he dodged, the shockwave from the swing still caught him. Fortunately the Electromagnetic Shield absorbed most of the impact.

Ares fought like he never got tired, attacking in a relentless frenzy with one single thought — kill Damien.

Damien moved quickly, weaving left and right, refusing to meet him head-on. Ares grew more and more agitated, his attacks coming faster and faster.

Finally, Damien spotted an opening. This time he didn't dodge. He stepped straight into the blade. The massive sword slammed into the shield, and a ripple of transparent blue light burst outward in waves.

In that split second, Damien drew a short dagger from his wrist and slashed in one fluid motion. A thin red line appeared across Ares's throat.

The wound widened. Blood sprayed out. But Ares didn't stop attacking.

Damien frowned, moved around behind him, and leapt onto Ares's shoulders. He raised the dagger and drove it straight down through the top of his skull.

The massive sword hit the ground. Ares slowly collapsed.

Milo watched from the side, his eyes wide with rage.

Everyone else stood there, stunned. To them, Ares had been something beyond human. His fight with Damien was nothing ordinary people could even get involved in — and yet Ares was dead.

"What are you all standing there for? Get him — kill him!" Milo screamed, and everyone snapped back to their senses.

At that moment, Ironclaw arrived with reinforcements, and both sides immediately clashed.

Milo wasn't happy about it, but he had no choice. He ordered a retreat. He took one last look at Ares's body, his eyes dark and unreadable.

"My Lord, are you alright?" Ironclaw ran over to Damien, his voice full of concern.

"I'm fine. Thanks to this little thing." Damien held up the Electromagnetic Shield.

The device had strong defensive capabilities, but it was extremely difficult to make — there was no way to equip everyone in Shadow Sect with one. Damien couldn't help feeling that was a shame.

On the other side, after pulling back, Milo's first move wasn't to get his arm treated. It was to report Ares's defeat to White.

"You're telling me Ares lost? How is that possible? Damien is no match for him!"

Others might not know, but White did. Ares had been modified by a team of scientists from Celestial Temple working together.

His strength was at least equal to Damien's — if anything, slightly above. So how could he have lost?

"Damien had something on him that made him bulletproof. He's too strong. We were no match for him."

Even Milo had to admit that.

White was furious. "Useless. Get back to Celestial Temple — now!"

He hung up immediately.

If Milo couldn't get it done, he'd send Monty instead. Damien had destroyed his most perfect test subject. Fine — he'd just capture Damien and turn him into one.

The more White thought about it, the more excited he got. A strange smile spread across his face.

Monty set out with his orders, frowning the whole way. Taking Damien alive was going to be a lot harder than killing him.

On the other side, after getting Mona out, Damien was ready to leave Lia Region. He'd been away from New York too long — it was time to go back.

When Eloise heard, she sent him off with a gift to bring back to Sophia.

"I was hoping to meet her in person. Doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon," Eloise said, a little disappointed. "Give her my regards."

Damien smiled. He had originally planned to bring Sophia to Lia Region, but things in New York weren't quiet either. That idea would have to wait.

"I'll pass along your message."

Damien handed the gift to Ironclaw.
