Chapter 35 Regretting
Logan's POV
Football practice started a little bit tense. The moment I entered the field, I could feel the way Aaron was looking at my presence. He was acting normal at first, but I knew him too well.
There was something behind his smug expression, he was plotting something and I knew it wasn't any good. And I had a feeling it had everything to do with Ava and the bet we made.
I regretted it every single day. But I also knew that no matter how much I hated myself for it, I wasn’t going to let Aaron use it against me.
But I was afraid!
The practice began, and I pushed my frustration and worries aside, focusing on the game. Tristan was already on the field, his sharp eyes passing between me and Aaron, probably expecting things to go south at any moment.
And he was right to.
It started when Aaron refused to pass the ball to me. The first time, I let it slide, thinking maybe it wasn’t intentional. The second time, I clenched my jaw, keeping my cool. But by the third and fourth times, when he deliberately ignored both me and Tristan, I was done.
He was being a bitch and I had enough of that!
Tristan shot me a look, one that told me to keep it together. But my patience was running thin.
During the whole practice game play, I sprinted down the field, wide open for the pass. Aaron had a clear shot to me, but instead, he turned and passed it to someone else…someone who wasn’t even in a good position. The ball was intercepted, and Coach blew the whistle, his frustration evident.
“What the hell was that?” Coach barked.
Aaron shrugged. “Didn’t see Logan.”
That was bullshit, and he knew it.
Tristan stepped between us before I could react. “Dude, stop playing games. You saw him.”
Aaron smirked. “Maybe he just wasn’t worth passing to.”
This fucking Bastard! I heard enough of him playing with my damn patience!
Without thinking, I shoved him hard. He stumbled back, but before he could regain balance, I was already in his face.
“You’ve been messing around all practice,” I snapped. “You wanna act like a little bitch, fine. But don’t drag the rest of the team down with you.”
Aaron laughed, brushing himself off. “Relax, Carter. It’s just a game.”
“It’s not just a game when you’re purposely screwing with me.”
Tristan placed a hand on my shoulder, his tone warning. “Logan, don’t…”
But Aaron wasn’t done. His smirk widened as he lowered his voice just enough for only me and Tristan to hear. “Or is this about Ava? Afraid she’ll find out what started all this? The little bet?”
A dangerous silence fell between us.
Tristan tensed beside me. He already knew about the bet, but hearing Aaron bring it up now, like it was some kind of joke, like Ava was just some game to us, made my blood boil.
I saw red.
Before I could stop myself, my fist connected with Aaron’s face. The sound of the hit echoed across the field, followed by the sharp gasp of teammates around us.
Aaron stumbled back, touching his bruised jaw. His eyes held so much anger with fury, but before he could react again, Tristan stepped in, shoving me back.
“Enough!” Tristan growled, holding me in place. “You’re not doing this here.”
Aaron wiped his mouth, his grin was smeared with blood. “Touched a nerve, huh?”
I wanted to punch him again, but Tristan held me firm. “Logan, walk away. Now.”
Breathing hard, I glared at Aaron one last time before turning on my heel. Tristan followed, making sure I didn’t double back and start another fight.
“Damn it,” I muttered under my breath, running a hand through my hair as we made our way toward the locker room.
Tristan sighed. “I told you to let it go.”
I exhaled sharply. “I know. But I couldn’t.”
He gave me a knowing look. “You should tell Ava the truth before Aaron does.”
“I swear,I'm going to kick Aaron purple and blue in his annoying fucking face if he pull that shit next time" I yelled expressing my frustration. I was really pissed and I knew Aaron was doing it on purpose to make me react.
He was trying to prove something.
“He didn't pass you the ball because he thinks you're ignoring him and his bet agenda. That's why he wanted you to react. But dude you better end that bet you made with Aaron very soon before Ava finds out. She'll never forgive you,she literally took a long time trusting you and if you mess with that it's over". Tristan said.
I Know that, and I hated that he was right. But I couldn't bring myself to tell Ava the truth because I didn't want the good times we have to end just like that. I've only got Ava to trust me with so much difficulty,I couldn't afford anything else.
“Keep in mind that Aaron will sabotage whatever you have going on with Ava. He's a fucking manipulator and he'll not hesitate to break your relationship with Ava!" Tristan added.
“Fuck that! Do I look like I'm afraid of him? That's bullshit and you know it. I just don't want Ava to find this from anyone but me”.
Tristan shook his head slightly " Whatever! Let's go”
After showering,we decided to check on our girlfriend but when we reached there, Charlotte was alone.
No sign of Ava!
I strode towards her and sat down " Why are you alone Char? Where's Ava? Did she go home? But I told her I'll take her home?" I couldn't help but ask too many questions at once.
She Shrugged " she told me her boss called and asked her to go early at her part time job but she said she'll call you later”
I let out a breath of relief. I don't know why I was thinking of the worst right now but Aaron has messed with my head quite well.
