Jonah turned to look back at the scattered keys. He decided not to return it as some sort of pay back for the teenager being rude. He walks out to the front and exits the post office. He knew he did not have to be that petty, but the teenagers yapping had gotten on his nerves.
As he was walking back to his car. A thought came into his mind. He stopped and returned back to the post office.
"Hey kid, do you by any chance know who owns P.O box 5210?" Jonah asked.
The teenager looked over lazily. "Oh it's you again. Just go home bruh." He said
"Can you just answer the question." Jonah said irritated.
"Now how am I supposed to know who owns what. No one tells me anything and last I heard that stuff is kind of.... I don't know, confidential." The teenager snapped back.
Jonah sighed, reaching for his wallet pulling out a twenty dollar note. He folded it and slid it over the counter. The teenager sat straight and collected the money.
"Now do you have any information about the owner of that P.O box." Jonah repeats his question with a more stern look this time.
"Not really. But my boss told me that the box is special. That is all I know." The teenager shrugged and slipped the money in their pocket.
"Why then did you accept the money." Jonah groaned.
"I mean, who rejects free money? Definitely not me. Now I told you all I know. Shoo go away." The teenager replies.
Jonah walked out covered in anger, the post office door slamming behind him. The teenager was shocked and muttered something about grown ups and their anger issues.
Jonah stomped back to the car. Letting out his frustration by kicking the tyre multiple times. After some time, he calms down and gets in his car.
'I have to catch a glimpse of this blackmailer in the day time. Now is the perfect time to wait while they come to check on the P.O. Box.' Jonah thought to himself.
Jonah gets himself comfortable, pushing his chair back, using the pull down mirror to shield himself from the sun as he laid and waited. It seemed to be an extremely slow day for the post office because the first hour passes and no one has walked in. The second hour the same thing. The third hour only the delivery postman shows up and he does not even go to where P.O boxes are.
By the fourth hour Jonah was already dozing off to sleep.
*****
The sky had become dark and the post office had long since closed. Jonah is startled from sleep by his phone ringing. Jerking awake, he picks up the phone. Elliot's name glaring on the screen. Rubbing his eyes, he answers.
"Hello." Jonah says groggily
"Hi my love, where are you?" Elliot asks softly.
"I got to your house and you were not there. I called the office. They said you did not come in today. Talk to me Jonah, what is going on?" Elliot continues
Jonah sighs, "Elliot, well I am currently at the library. I went to clear my head with some books." He explains
"I slept off." Jonah chuckles. A slight laugh is heard from Elliot's end too.
"So when are you coming home?" Elliot asks
"I should be coming back right now. It is already late." Jonah answered
"Alright see you then." Elliot says then ends the call.
Jonah turns on the engine of the car and drives off. His mind totally skipping over the events of today. Shortly after, he got home. Sure enough he saw Elliot lounging on his couch with grey sweatpants and a black tank top.
Elliot looked back and immediately he saw Jonah a smile forms on his face. He walks over to Jonah, hugs him and kisses him to welcome him. Jonah reciprocates with smiles.
He pulls away from Elliot's embrace and walks into the room to freshen up. He takes a shower, taking extra time as the water runs down his body as if washing away his stress. After about thirty minutes he steps out. His hair damp from the shower and his body still dripping with water, he pats dry as he walks towards the wardrobe.
Suddenly his phone lights up with a message notification.
Unknown number:
You see, complying was not so hard was it? You did not have to go through all that stress. You could have paid up earlier but the good thing is you paid up either way.
Jonah snatched his phone off the dresser, gripping it tightly as he typed a reply.
Jonah:
I have given you your money. Let this be the last time you bother me or my family again and also I want you to destroy all the pictures, videos and voice recordings you have of me and Elliot.
Unknown number:
You see this is the issue with humans. You give them a slice of cake. They want to own the whole bakery. The agreement was ten thousand dollars and your parents would not find out about you or Elliot. The agreement was not to delete anything.
Jonah grew irritated as he typed back furiously.
Jonah:
You are sick, evil and twisted. I want anything you have of me and Elliot gone or you will suffer the consequences
Unknown number:
Why all the insults. I am just someone who is trying to make a living here. Like I mentioned I have got bills to pay, kids to feed too. And no, I would not be getting rid of anything.
Plus you always seem to threaten me but nothing still happens.
Jonah:
I promise I will find you and make you suffer.
Unknown number:
Like how you tried to find me today? I saw your car and you fast asleep in it. It is so cute when you try to play detective. Thanks again for the money by the way. Sadly I need a new car so I will need you to still put money in that P.O box again.
This time I am expecting thirty thousand dollars. It was nice doing business with you. Xoxo
Jonah groaned as he threw his phone in anger. He knew this was exactly what was going to happen. But he did not have a choice. He rubbed his hair in frustration as he paced back and forth.
