Chapter 19 19
Chapter 19 19
Aria POV
The court's sections immediately begin.
I inhaled sharply as I watched Lawyer Chris begin.
Suddenly the judge interrupted.
“I think we should take a three-minute break.” The judge said.
Everyone nodded and watched her leave. Kane immediately stood up from where he sat and rushed over to my side.
“Are you okay?” He asked me
I nodded slightly with a smile.
“I am. I mean, we haven’t even gotten started.” I raised my shoulder a little.
He nodded.
“Do you need anything?” Kane asked me, sounding so sweet as always.
“No. I just want to use the restroom.” I mumbled, getting on my feet.
“Do you want Aunt Evelyn to come with you?” Kane asked, sounding a lot worried.
“No. I’m not a kid, Kane.” I smiled softly.
“I’m just worried; you are a little hurt.” He said, but I wasn’t
I don’t care about Derek anymore. The only thing on my mind is to get Lily back.
“Thanks for your concern,” I mumbled, and with that, I left for the restroom.
After taking a leak, I stayed in the bathroom stall for a minute. I checked my wrist, and I don’t have much time to waste. I got out of the bathroom stall and washed my hands with the running water at the basin.
I wiped my hands dry with a tissue, and that was when I noticed a figure coming behind me.
When Derek noticed me, he paused for a second. He suddenly ignored my presence, and I watched him walk to the basin and wash his hands.
I turned at him, folding my arms across my chest.
“It’s better to give up now, mister, before you regret it and get disgraced in the end,” I said to his face.
“Regret? I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.” Derek mumbled, still focussing on his hand washing.
Seeing his confidence made me so angry. I had always hated seeing that.
“Just watch how you regret this for the rest of your life!” I said to his friend, and with that, I stormed out of the restroom.
After five minutes, the judge returned, and the court soon resumed.
I adjusted on my seat and watched Derek’s first lawyer begin talking.
“My Lord, Ms. Aria right here isn’t supposed to be called Miss Lily Blackwood's mother. She had failed to carry out her responsibilities as a mother.” The lawyer said, and my jaw slackened.
How could he say that? I never took responsibility? I spent all my life with my family. My autistic daughter and my grumpy husband
“My lord. There is no valid evidence against this accusation.” Lawyer Chris said immediately
“Valid evidence. My honour, there is evidence against my points, and they have been presented to you.” The lager gestured at the files before the Hugh’s
“And my lord would like to call Ms. Aria in for some questioning.”
“You may proceed.” The judge gave him permission.
Derek's lawyer walked towards me.
“Ms. Aria, where were you on the 15th of May when you were supposed to pick your daughter Lily up from school?”
“I was…” I suddenly paused.
I inhaled sharply, remembering the day clearly.
“I couldn’t pick her up from school because I’d some reason
“Some reasons or you abandoned her, Ms. Lily?
“Abandoned? I was held up in traffic. I never abandoned her!” I reverted strongly.
That day I was supposed to pick Lily up from school after work, but due to the traffic, I got there late, and I told Derek to pick her up, which he eventually did.
“Mr. Blackwood was the one who picked her up instead of you. That shows your level of neglect and lack of commitment, Ms. Aria.” The lawyer added
I explained to Derek, and he understood that day. Is he trying to use that against me now?
“I told him to pick him up because I was jammed into the traffic!” I tried explaining, but Derek's lawyer didn’t bother to listen to that.
Instead, he turned back to the lawyer.
“My lord. You need to know about how Ms. Aria has always refused to take responsibility for her daughter, even as a mother. She had been nothing but a total failure!”
