Chapter 77 Being a Friend
Emily flashed Brian a smile, "I'm good, thanks for asking, Mr. Scott."
After chatting for a bit, the group headed upstairs.
As the reception manager, Emily kept the conversation going with Brian.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and in walked Ella with a tray of tea.
Seeing Ella, Emily raised an eyebrow, curious about her intentions.
From the moment Ella stepped in, her eyes were glued to Brian. She felt that, given her seniority and skills, she should've been the one hosting such an important client, not Emily.
Despite Emily's recent stellar performance, Ella was feeling pretty bitter.
Ella's professional suit had the top two buttons of her blouse undone, showing off her smooth neck and a hint of cleavage.
"Mr. Scott, please enjoy some tea," Ella said in a sweet, drawn-out voice, dripping with affection.
As she bent down to place the tea in front of Brian, her movements were deliberately exaggerated.
Emily found Ella's behavior amusing.
She didn't call out Ella's intentions but watched her little show.
Brian had already picked up on Ella's motives the moment she walked in. Seeing Emily's constant smile, he didn't interrupt Ella but watched coldly to see what she'd do next.
Ella, thinking her plan was working, felt pretty smug.
She gave Brian a seductive smile, revealing more of her cleavage.
Brian's lips curled into a cold smile as he calmly watched her.
Seeing Brian not stopping her, Ella grew bolder.
"Mr. Scott, be careful; it's hot," she said, pretending to touch the hot tea cup and "accidentally" spilling it.
The tea flowed towards Brian, but he had anticipated her move and moved his chair back just in time, so the tea spilled on the floor instead of on him.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Scott," Ella hurriedly reached out to wipe Brian's clothes, but he grabbed her hand halfway.
Ella was surprised by the resistance and looked up at Brian. Seeing his cold eyes, she trembled in fear.
His gaze was terrifying, and she began to regret her actions.
She tried to pull her hand back, but he gripped her wrist tightly, causing her pain and making it impossible to withdraw.
Fearfully, she stammered, "Mr. Scott."
"What's the matter?" Brian responded lightly, his presence overwhelming her.
Ella's legs trembled, and she collapsed to the floor, looking at Brian in fear.
Brian pulled her closer, his voice icy. "Isn't this what you wanted? What are you afraid of?"
His voice was cold and imposing.
Ella was terrified and looked to Emily for help.
To her surprise, Emily just looked at her, expressionless, and asked, "Isn't this what you wanted?"
"No, this isn't what I wanted," Ella had never faced such a situation.
She had encountered all kinds of people, even lecherous men, and she had always manipulated them.
But this time, it seemed like she had really messed up. Brian's aura was just too intimidating, something she had never dealt with before.
She struggled to pull her hand back but couldn't.
She thought both Brian and Emily were terrifying.
Trembling with fear, she tried again to pull her hand back, and this time, she succeeded without resistance.
She quickly got up and bolted out the door.
Everyone in the company saw her disheveled appearance. Those unaware were puzzled, while those in the know were smirking.
Emily stepped forward to close the door, looking at Brian, who was laughing heartily, and said with a smile, "Looks like you had quite the show, Mr. Scott."
"Isn't this what you wanted to see, Emily?" Brian said, wiping his hand with a wet wipe; he thought the scent of Ella's perfume was still lingering on his hand.
Hearing this, Emily smiled. She had to admit that Brian's personality was very similar to hers.
"Emily, how about we become friends?" Brian raised an eyebrow and took out a box from his pocket.
Emily looked at Brian, puzzled.
"I'm planning to settle in Celestria, but I don't have any friends here," Brian said with a smile, "I've enjoyed our time together. Would you mind being friends?"
Emily shook her head. "No, I wouldn't mind."
"Then it's settled, we're friends now," Brian said, staring at Emily's face.
Before she could respond, Brian continued, "You can call me Brian. There's no need for us to be so formal."
Emily, not one to overthink, nodded in agreement.
After confirming the cooperation, at Emily's request, Brian didn't promote her but gave her a bonus of $100,000, which made Emily the target of envy in the executive office again.
Emily treated everyone in the office to coffee, but some people were never satisfied. Ella looked at the coffee in her hand and sneered, "Some people get $100,000 but only buy us $20 coffee. How petty they are! Without our cooperation, would they have gotten that bonus?"
Emily calmly walked up and took the coffee from Ella's hand. "If you don't want to drink it, then don't. Don't talk crap!"
"You!" Ella's face turned grim as she didn't expect Emily to do that.
Emily threw the coffee into the trash can without giving her a second glance and walked away.
Half an hour before the end of the workday, Emily received a call from Harper, who invited her for coffee.
Harper's voice sounded off, as if she was in a bad mood.
After work, Emily went to the café to meet Harper.
Remembering the last incident, she drove quickly.
When she arrived, Harper was already there, with two empty cups on the table.
Emily walked over and asked, "What's going on?"
