Chapter 215 I Will Not Forgive

Chapter 215 I Will Not Forgive

Sloane's POV

I choked up, my voice so soft it sounded like begging, "As long as you wake up, I promise you, we'll remarry right away. I won't hide anymore. I want to properly wear your ring and face everything together with you. Do you hear me? Jared, you can't just leave me like this..."

Just then, the hospital room door was pushed open.

The attending doctor walked in quickly with several nurses, preparing for routine rounds and recording vital signs.

"Sloane, we need to step out now. Don't interfere with the doctors." Hannah came over, gently putting her arm around my shoulders and forcibly pulling me away from the bedside.

I kept looking back with every step, my eyes glued to Jared's pale face until Hannah pulled me out of the room. The heavy glass door closed again, completely separating me from him.

I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down.

I turned to look at the trusted bodyguards standing outside the door, my gaze sharp, "Don't leave this spot for even a second. No one—not even people from inside the Rex family—can get near him without the doctor's permission. If anything unusual happens, notify me immediately."

"Yes, Mrs. Montclair." The bodyguards bowed respectfully.

After confirming everything, I tiredly rubbed my temples, preparing to leave the hospital.

Just as I reached the elevator, a gloomy voice came from behind me.

"Sloane, we need to talk."

I stopped in my tracks and turned around.

Aeneas stood a few steps away.

The dim corridor lights cast shadows on his wrinkled face, and those cloudy eyes held a chilling calculation and coldness.

"Aeneas, I don't think we have anything to talk about." I looked at him coldly.

"Whether we have anything to talk about isn't for you to decide." Aeneas snorted coldly, signaling the bodyguards to step back, leaving just the two of us. He slowly walked closer, looking down at me with contempt dripping from his voice, "You think your little medical skills are enough to establish yourself in New York high society? Sloane, stop dreaming. Deep down, you're just an orphan abandoned by your parents, a worthless bastard even your own parents didn't want. Do you really think you're worthy of the Rex family's heir?"

His words were like a rusty knife, stabbing precisely into my most hidden pain.

I clenched my fists hard, nails digging deep into my palms, using the pain to maintain my rationality.

"Whether I'm worthy or not is for Jared to decide." I met his gaze without backing down. I took out the black card with five hundred million dollars from my bag again and slapped it on the counter in front of him, "I haven't touched a cent of this money. I'll say it again—I don't want a penny from the Rex family. I only want Jared."

Aeneas looked at the black card, the mockery in his eyes not diminishing one bit. He laughed coldly, "You only want him? Sloane, you're so naive it's laughable. Do you know why he's lying in there this time? It's because he was protecting you, frantically purging those within the corporation who opposed your remarriage, which pushed those people into a corner!"

My heart jolted violently, my breathing instantly freezing.

"Your existence is his biggest weakness, the biggest obstacle to his career!" Aeneas stepped closer, his tone venomous and oppressive, "If it weren't for you, he could have married into the Valden family, joining forces to secure his throne on Wall Street. You keep saying you love him, but all you do is drag him down and nearly cost him his life. If you really cared about him, you'd take this money and get as far away as possible, never appear in front of him again!"

Aeneas's words were like thunder exploding in my mind.

I don't know how I walked out of the hospital. The rain outside was pouring down hard, the cold rainwater hitting my face, yet it couldn't match even one ten-thousandth of the chill in my heart.

Did I harm him? If it weren't for trying to give me a stable future, would he not have suffered such a brutal assassination?

The enormous psychological pressure, worry for Jared, and Aeneas's cutting accusations pressed down on my chest like a mountain, making it almost impossible to breathe.

I wandered aimlessly into a secluded bar.

Under the dim lights, I downed one drink after another. The harsh liquid slid down my throat, burning my stomach, but it couldn't burn away the bitterness and self-blame in my heart.

I just wanted to numb myself with alcohol, even if only for a moment of relief.

I don't know how many drinks I had before my vision started to blur and the surrounding noise gradually faded away.

I collapsed on the bar counter, my head splitting with pain, my stomach churning violently.

Just as I was about to completely lose consciousness, a coat carrying a faint warmth was draped over my shoulders.

"Sloane, stop drinking." A gentle but anxious voice sounded in my ear.

A slender, strong hand took the glass from me. I looked up through drunken, hazy eyes and saw a tall, upright silhouette.

In the dim light, I couldn't see his face clearly, only vaguely making out the familiar cut of his suit and concerned eyes.

"Jared..." I murmured, tears suddenly pouring out without warning. The grievance and fear in my heart completely broke through at this moment.

Like a drowning person grabbing the only piece of driftwood, I threw myself into his arms without hesitation, clutching his clothes tightly, "You're awake? You're okay now, right... Don't leave me, I'm so scared..."

I wanted to depend on him, to find a sense of security in this familiar embrace.

The next second, a faint scent of disinfectant mixed with mint reached my nose, making my body suddenly stiffen.

My remaining rationality instantly returned.

I pushed him away forcefully, staggering back two steps until my back hit the bar counter.

I saw clearly who was in front of me—it was Harrison.

He was wearing a beige trench coat, his hand still extended, maintaining the posture of trying to support me.

Those gentle eyes were now filled with undisguised shock and deep pain.

"I'm sorry..." I frantically wiped the tears from my face, so embarrassed I wanted to find a hole to crawl into. I immediately pulled away to create distance between us, my voice slurred from the alcohol but desperately maintaining distance, "Harrison, I'm sorry, I drank too much and mistook you for someone else."

Harrison's hand froze in mid-air for a moment before finally dropping powerlessly.

He gave a bitter smile, a flash of dejection in his eyes, but still approached gracefully and lightly supported my swaying arm.

"It's okay." His voice was soft, carrying deep helplessness, "Hannah couldn't reach you on the phone and was very worried, so she asked me to come find you. You're drunk—let me take you home."

I wanted to refuse, but my legs were too weak to stand, and my head was spinning terribly.
