Chapter 195
Chapter 195
I opened the door to find Gabriel standing there with bags of food.
I stared at him for a long moment before sighing helplessly. "You really don't have to do this. Between the two of us—"
Gabriel cut me off before I could finish.
Like always, he brought up his mother. "Before I came over, my mom told me to take good care of you."
"Take good care of your ex-wife?" I deliberately emphasized my status, trying to provoke him into leaving.
But he acted like he couldn't hear me at all. No reaction whatsoever. He just walked over to the dining table expressionlessly and started laying out the food he'd brought, one dish after another.
"Why did you suddenly decide to expand your project overseas?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer.
"Just eat," he said curtly, apparently tired of my questions.
I frowned at all the food on the table. I wasn't particularly interested. In fact, I felt a little nauseous.
I couldn't help it—I was pregnant. Even though the morning sickness had improved compared to before, I still had no appetite.
"I need to use the bathroom real quick."
I pushed down the nausea and headed to the bathroom.
I tried my best to keep quiet, doing everything I could to make sure he wouldn't hear me throwing up.
After flushing the toilet, I opened the door to find Gabriel waiting right outside. He scared the crap out of me.
"Gabriel, what the hell is wrong with you?" I snapped, feeling guilty.
I deliberately raised my voice to cover up my anxiety.
He looked angry. His expression darkened, and without a word, he turned and left.
Whatever. That was actually better—saved me the awkwardness of having him around.
After throwing up, my appetite seemed to improve quite a bit. I ate a whole bowl of rice and most of the dishes on the table.
After cleaning up, I decided to take the trash out and get some exercise. Just my luck—I ran into Azure in the hallway, carrying a lunchbox.
Azure saw me too. Her expression froze slightly, like she was surprised to see me here.
I looked at her blankly, then turned and got into the elevator.
Azure hesitated for a moment, then followed me in.
She reached out to press a button. I pulled my hand back from doing the same.
I was curious to see what Azure's expression would be when she found out Gabriel lived across from me.
I could clearly feel her watching me from the corner of her eye.
The elevator slowly went up. A moment later, the doors opened.
Azure and I both stepped out. When she saw me pull out my keys and unlock the door across the hall, her expression visibly stiffened.
Mission accomplished. I was in a great mood. I was planning to go back to bed for a nap.
Suddenly, a WhatsApp message popped up: [Can we talk?]
Too lazy to deal with Azure, I blocked her.
Then there was knocking at my door. Annoyed, I got up and opened it.
It was Azure.
How had I never noticed before how shameless this woman was?
"What do you want?"
I frowned at Azure, making no effort to be polite.
"Can we talk, Ember?" Still that innocent, helpless act.
"Sure."
I went to sit on the couch, curious what crap would come out of this woman's mouth.
"Ember, since you and Mr. Sinclair are divorced, could you maybe stay away from him from now on?" Azure bit her lip and looked at me pitifully.
I stared at her coldly. "Azure, don't you feel disgusted with yourself when you say things like that?"
"Ember." Azure bit her lip. "Mr. Sinclair and I only got together after you two divorced."
"Is that so?"
I looked at Azure like she was amusing. "Then why did Gabriel tell me you two were never together at all?"
My gaze fell to Azure's hands. She'd clenched them into fists, then relaxed them again.
"I also heard that you were the one who contacted Gabriel first. You secretly asked for his number, didn't you?"
She'd known Gabriel was married, but she'd still contacted him behind the scenes. So what was with this innocent act now?
Azure seemed surprised I knew all this. She opened her mouth, seemingly unable to speak.
After a long pause, she finally asked, "Who told you all this?"
"Was it Steven?"
So Steven knew about this too?
That I hadn't expected.
But I didn't correct her. I didn't tell her it was actually Nason who'd told me.
I just stared at Azure with interest. "What do you think?"
If I was lucky, I might dig up some more dirt today.
Azure's body was trembling slightly with anger.
I wasn't sure how Steven had found out about all this, but I felt kind of bad for him.
His girlfriend had cheated on him, and he'd still kept her secret this whole time.
I really wanted to give that poor guy an award for Best Ex-Boyfriend.
"This has nothing to do with Steven," I said, defending him.
Even though I was dying to know more, my conscience wouldn't let me drag Steven into this.
"So you secretly looked through Mr. Sinclair's phone?" Azure accused me.
"What gives you the right to question me?"
I looked at this woman who was starting to lose it, then warned her, "Stop putting on an act in front of me. I know exactly how disgusting you are. Get the hell away from me."
I'd never blown up at Azure like this before.
Azure looked scared. She stood there stunned, speechless.
"I... I'll go now."
Finally, she seemed to deflate. She got up to leave.
"So when we first met, you already knew who I was, didn't you?"
I had to admit, Azure had nerves of steel.
Even now, she was still playing dumb.
Watching Azure slink away, I unblocked Steven.
[Ember, long time no see.]
Almost immediately, a WhatsApp message from Steven popped up.
I was surprised. How did he know I'd unblocked him?
The next second, Steven sent a video call request.
On screen, Steven looked haggard. His clothes were dirty. He looked nothing like the sunny guy I used to know.
I stared at Steven in shock. "Aren't you supposed to be interning at the Blake Group?"
Steven rubbed the back of his head. "Nah, construction pays better. And I don't want to rely on you for everything."
