Chapter 257
Chapter 257
Things had come to this point. There was no use saying anything more—might as well play the victim card.
Layla cried her heart out, every word seemingly for Finn's sake.
Chase watched from the side, eyes narrowed.
He had thought he was in for a good beating this time, but unexpectedly, at the critical moment, Layla had stepped forward to take responsibility for him.
His heart stirred—he already had another plan in mind.
After crying for quite a while, Layla's eyes were teary and red and swollen.
After all, she was a woman he had once loved. Finn didn't strike again, but sighed instead, "You two are too reckless. That's our daughter—how could you bear to do this?"
He couldn't imagine what state Veda would be in when she got home.
Layla was heartbroken, beating her chest, "I had no choice. Tomorrow let's go beg Mother together. If this continues, our whole family won't survive."
Finn sighed helplessly, "You think I don't want to? There's really no way now. Enough, stop talking. Let's sleep first and deal with it tomorrow."
At this moment, he was truly confused.
Although Veda had been rescued by Diana, smart people knew what had happened.
Sold out by her own mother and brother—she must be in so much pain.
Finn's warning gaze fell on Chase, "Listen carefully—you should find ways to expand and make money yourself, not sell out your sister."
His eyes were full of disgust.
He gave a cold look and turned to leave.
Chase was dismissive, "Some people live a few good years and forget how they got where they are. If it weren't for marrying a rich heiress, he'd be broke by now."
He had heard plenty about Finn's rags-to-riches story since childhood. On the surface he looked like an heir to wealth, but actually he was just useless.
Otherwise, their family wouldn't have declined so much and ended up like this.
Layla knew Chase was right, but still glared at him, "Shut up. These aren't things you should be saying."
This Chase was becoming more and more useless.
Running his mouth without thinking.
Dawn broke.
Diana groggily opened her eyes. Looking at that handsome face before her, she couldn't help but roll over, pinning him beneath her, gently biting that sexy Adam's apple.
A tingling sensation came over him. Michael woke from his sleep, and seeing Diana's actions, his lips curved up in an enjoying expression.
He swept his arm around, holding Diana tightly in his embrace, his voice husky and alluring, "You're awake? Let's go get our marriage certificate."
Diana wasn't fully awake yet, her whole mind fuzzy. She nodded instinctively, then frantically shook her head after coming to her senses.
Michael, though rejected, wasn't angry. Instead, his eyes sparkled as he planted a kiss on Diana's forehead, the corners of his mouth curving up more and more—harder to suppress than an AK.
"If we're not getting the marriage certificate, then you need to give me other compensation."
His lips pressed against hers, lips and teeth intertwined, breaths mingling.
As time passed, he deepened the kiss, as if wanting to devour her completely.
A knock suddenly sounded at the door.
Diana snapped awake and pushed him away. But Michael grabbed her slender waist, pulling her back into his arms. His strong arms held her slim waist tightly, confining her, their bodies pressed together without any gap.
His handsome face leaned in, his nose intimately nuzzling Diana's delicate neck, his voice husky and seductive.
"Ignore her."
How unnecessary.
She was rescued—couldn't she just say thanks properly? Why knock on the door so early in the morning?
Michael felt angry inside but said nothing, holding Diana and wanting to continue.
Michael's breath was hot, that warm breathing spreading through her body like an electric current. His nose lightly brushed against her tender skin. Diana's whole body went soft as she wrapped her arms around Michael's neck. Just as she was about to do something, the violent knocking sounded again.
The knocking grew louder and louder, as if trying to break down the door.
Veda's dissatisfied voice rang out, "Come out here! Diana, you're so cruel! Even if Mom and Dad did some things to wrong you, I'm your real sister. How could you give me to an old man? You did all this, didn't you?"
"I'm going to the police station in a bit to report you. Don't think that just because you drugged me, I don't know what happened. I'm going to the police station to get a medical examination. I won't let you off."
Diana's eyes rolled, "Does she have no brain?"
Saying such things so early in the morning.
No good deed goes unpunished indeed.
Diana found strength from somewhere and pushed Michael away, opening the door.
Faced with Diana's cold, sharp gaze, Veda's voice unconsciously lowered considerably, "Why are you looking at me like that? Looking at me won't help. You bullied me and you have to pay the price. And you're so cruel—why did you treat me like this?"
"So you think I'm the one who sold you to the old man?"
"What else? I was sleeping fine in my room. Why would I end up at your house? You must have worked with the servants at home to sell me for a good price. No, you already sold me. Look at these marks on my body."
Veda rolled up her sleeve, looking at the black and blue marks, grinding her teeth in hatred, "You need to compensate me, or I won't let you off."
Diana couldn't help but laugh, "Do you have a brain or not? Are you sure I harmed you and didn't save you?"
"How is that possible? You hate me so much. If you saw me in trouble, you'd definitely record it on your phone. You absolutely wouldn't save me."
Her words actually made sense.
Logically consistent.
Diana leaned against the cold wall, touching her chin and nodding in agreement, "You're right. People should respect others' fate instead of meddling. Lesson learned."
"Enough talking. Get lost. As for what you're thinking, I don't care. Want to call the police? I welcome it anytime. Oh, and before you report it, you should discuss it carefully with your family—what exactly do they want?"
Seeing Diana's indifferent attitude, Veda was so angry her chest heaved violently, "You're not afraid, huh? Fine, you just wait. I'll make you afraid."
Veda left, slamming the door with a deafening bang.
Diana pursed her lips and sighed helplessly, "Being a good person is hard. Should've been a bad person. Being the villain is the most satisfying after all."
