Chapter 90
Sophia's words today served as a warning to Juniper and also reminded her colleagues: anyone who dared to anger her would face her wrath.
Just then, Evelyn walked over, having just finished selling some drinks in the VIP room. As she approached, she learned that Sophia had sold an impressive 500 bottles of wine in one go.
Evelyn also overheard the snide remarks from their colleagues about Sophia. Being Sophia's best friend, Evelyn couldn't stand it. She stepped forward and addressed the group of coworkers around Sophia. "What's with all the chatter? Are you jealous because Sophia sold more wine than you?"
After saying this, Evelyn turned to the manager. "Manager, Sophia sold a ton of wine today, but her colleagues are giving her a hard time. If you don't step in, who's gonna want to sell anything here in the future?"
The manager felt a bit stuck because she knew she couldn't afford to offend Sophia right now. With a cold expression, she looked at the salespeople standing around. "Alright, alright, everyone get back to work. It's peak time at the bar, and you're all causing a scene at the entrance. If you mess with the bar's business, I'll have to report it, and trust me, you won't like the consequences when the boss gets mad."
Evelyn still wasn't satisfied. She glared at Juniper. "Manager, I think Juniper's the biggest troublemaker among us. She acts all innocent, but as soon as Sophia starts doing well, she gets all bent out of shape."
Evelyn wasn't one to shy away from confrontation, especially when it came to defending Sophia. She knew all the hardships Sophia had gone through over the years and wanted to protect her from being bullied.
Evelyn stared directly into Juniper's eyes and questioned her seriously. "Juniper, I'm curious. Sophia sold a lot of wine today, but she didn't steal your customers or your sales. Why are you so jealous? Do you get upset whenever someone else does well?"
Juniper's face turned red with embarrassment as Evelyn called her out in front of everyone. "Evelyn, what's this got to do with you? Are you just trying to suck up to Sophia because she earned a higher commission?"
Evelyn was furious. She was only trying to protect her friend, and now Juniper was accusing her of having ulterior motives. "Juniper, just because you're that kind of person doesn't mean everyone else is. You're so narrow-minded. How do you expect to achieve anything with that petty attitude?"Juniper knew she couldn't win an argument with Evelyn. She turned to the manager with a look of grievance. "Manager, how am I supposed to work in such a toxic environment? Dealing with drunk customers is bad enough, but now there's all this drama with my coworkers, too."
The manager, who had been in a good mood after landing a big order, was now getting irritated by Juniper's complaints. "Juniper, enough is enough. We're all colleagues and need to work together. Why stir up so much trouble? Everyone was in a good mood until you started whining."
Juniper was stunned. "Manager, what are you saying? I'm not the one causing trouble. Why is everyone blaming me? What did I do to deserve this?"
After shouting, Juniper stormed off to the restroom, where she glared at her reflection in the mirror, her face pale with anger. "Sophia, Evelyn, you humiliated me today. Just wait, I'll get back at both of you."
After Juniper left, the manager waved her hand, signaling the employees to get back to work. "Alright, everyone, stop watching the show and get busy. We have sales targets to meet this month, and if we don't, we'll all be out of a job."
With that, the employees returned to their tasks, leaving only Sophia and Evelyn at the front desk. The manager turned to Sophia with a big smile. "Sophia, you're amazing. I can't believe you landed such a big order today. You've not only secured my job but also brought in a valuable customer for the bar."
Sophia smiled modestly. "It was nothing, manager. I just got lucky today. Big orders like this won't happen all the time."
"Of course they will," the manager replied. "As long as you keep Mr. Smith happy, we'll see more big orders. Sophia, you have to keep it up! If you can win over Mr. Smith, our bar's success will depend on you."
Sophia felt flattered but also a bit overwhelmed. "Manager, please don't say that. James was just in a good mood today, and I happened to be lucky. His mood is unpredictable, and who knows what will happen the next time he comes to the bar?"
The manager was eager to praise Sophia, especially since her own performance targets had been met thanks to Sophia. She hoped Sophia's success would continue to bring in profits for the bar. "Sophia, you have to believe in yourself. I saw the way Mr. Smith looked at you today. Who knows, you might become Mrs. Smith someday."
Sophia's smile became awkward but polite as she changed the subject. "Manager, if there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."
Evelyn, who had been standing by quietly, gave Sophia a supportive nod. "Let's go, Sophia. We've got more customers to take care of."
As they walked away, Evelyn whispered to Sophia, "Don't let Juniper get to you. She's just jealous. You're doing great."
Sophia nodded, grateful for Evelyn's support. "Thanks, Evelyn. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Evelyn grinned. "Well, lucky for you, you'll never have to find out."
