Chapter 194
Chase was really worried because his desire to be with Veda had now dragged Matilda and Jagger into this mess.
James was already very powerful, and his parents had always lived very humbly in the Smith family. If he accidentally offended Aiden and James today, it really wouldn't be worth it.
Although Chase really liked Veda, he definitely wasn't someone who was crazy in love.
If Veda would just stop now, Chase had nothing more to say. But if Veda kept making trouble, and one day things got out of hand, that would be really bad.
Veda never expected Chase to be so firm in his attitude, actually leaving her alone there and walking away.
She was so angry she kept stomping her feet in her yard.
"Chase, you damn man, threatening me like that. I was so blind to have been with you for so long."
Hearing Veda shouting and yelling in the yard, Hazel quickly ran out.
"What's wrong, Veda? I could hear you shouting from inside the house. What happened?"
Veda turned around and threw herself into Hazel's arms looking completely wronged, crying loudly.
"Mom, why did Sophia take everything from me, and now she's ruining my relationship with Chase too?"
Seeing Veda looking so wronged, Hazel immediately felt very sorry for her.
"What happened, Veda? Don't worry, that bitch Sophia is bothering you again, right? What's wrong with that damn woman? She keeps going against you. I'm so angry."
Hazel said while holding Veda in her arms.
"Alright, my precious daughter, please don't cry. Don't worry, even though Sophia married Chase now, I will never let her have it easy."
"I want to make you the happiest woman in the world. No one can destroy your happiness."
With Hazel comforting her like this, Veda suddenly felt even more wronged.
"Mom, what is Sophia up to? Now Chase doesn't want to break them up at all. Chase thinks this is great, it works out perfectly for him and me. And Chase has already figured out that I've been pushing him so hard to break up James and Sophia because I want to be with James."
Hearing this, Hazel was shocked.
"What did you say? Chase has already figured out what you're thinking? What should we do? If Chase knows about your secret plan, how could he possibly help you?"
"Exactly, Mom. And just now when Chase came to see me, his attitude was really bad. When I suggested breaking up, he wasn't worried at all and didn't try to comfort me. Instead, he gave me a deadline and told me to come back to him within a week."
Hazel felt very sorry for her. When had Veda ever been treated like this?
"It's okay, Veda. Even though the Smith family is a big household in Emerald City, if you really don't like Chase anymore, we don't have to be with him. There are plenty of good men out there, we don't need him."
But Veda's heart was conflicted. If she couldn't marry James, marrying Chase was still the best choice.
But thinking about how if she married Chase, she would always be beneath Sophia, she felt really unwilling.
"But Mom, if I can't marry James and I can't marry Chase either, then there's no one suitable left in all of Emerald City."
Hazel quickly explained.
"How is that possible? If you want to find someone better than James in Emerald City, maybe you can't. But there are plenty of men better than Chase."
Veda thought seriously. She felt Chase could still be useful.
She was still angry inside. If she really couldn't be with James, she absolutely couldn't let Sophia be happy either.
"No, Mom. Even if I can't be with James, I absolutely cannot let Sophia be happy. I have to think of every possible way. If I can't break them up, then I'll destroy Sophia."
When Veda said this, her expression was vicious, as if she wanted to tear Sophia apart.
On Sophia's side, after staying with Mia at the hospital for a while, she returned to Evelyn's rental place. As soon as she walked in, Evelyn had a meaningful look on her face.
"So from now on, Mrs. Smith won't be able to share hardships with me anymore. She won't want to live in my tiny rental place anymore."
Hearing this, Sophia couldn't help but smile.
"Evelyn, what are you talking about? Your little rental place has been a huge help to me. Besides, James and I being together is just an act. Once I settle my mother's inheritance, James and I will go our separate ways."
Hearing this, Evelyn frowned slightly.
"How is that possible? Sophia, James likes you so much. He finally married you, how could he let you go so easily?"
After saying this, Evelyn leaned forward with a gossipy look.
"Sophia, you and James went to the Smith Manor today. How did it go? How did Aiden and Anais treat you? Did they give you any warnings?"
Anais had approached Sophia before, and Evelyn had always remembered it. So even she thought Anais had a strong personality and would definitely make things difficult for Sophia.
As for Aiden, that goes without saying. His reputation in Emerald City was well-known, and his temper might be even worse than James's.
Neither of them would give Sophia a friendly face.
Sophia said calmly, "Evelyn, today neither Aiden nor Anais made things difficult for me. Instead, they were very warm and very supportive of my marriage to James."
At this point, Sophia took out the family heirloom and gifts that Anais had given her and placed them in front of Evelyn.
"Evelyn, this is the family heirloom Anais gave me. It looks very valuable, probably an antique."
Seeing the bracelet in Sophia's hand, Evelyn's eyes lit up immediately and she gasped.
"Oh my god, this bracelet is so beautiful! It really lives up to being called a family heirloom. And this gift is so big! How much money is in it?"
Evelyn took the gift and opened it, and was immediately shocked. Inside the gift box wasn't money, but bank cards.
These bank cards stacked together were as thick as a fist.
"Oh my god, this Anais is so generous. The gift for her daughter-in-law isn't cash, but bank cards."
