Chapter 130
This was the first time Martin had given Victoria roses since their cold war began a year ago.
Early in their relationship, after a fight, she had told him that roses were her favorite because they symbolized romantic love.
If he made her angry, he should buy her flowers—that would be his way of offering an olive branch!
Victoria hadn't expected Martin to still remember their agreement.
A basket of roses sat on the table in front of her.
Martin walked over and sat down on the sofa. He pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it, then remembered she was pregnant—smoking would be bad for the baby.
He crushed the cigarette and tossed it into the ashtray.
Then Martin spoke expressionlessly: "Have this baby. The divorce registration still stands. Once we get the divorce certificate, our deal is done. You disappear."
His voice was so cold, completely emotionless.
Victoria clutched the blanket tightly. So she was just Martin's baby-making tool?
"Let's change our agreement a bit. You have the baby, I'll raise it to adulthood. And of course, I'll keep my word and help the Gonzalez family."
"I'll have Brian arrange for Kaida to come take care of your meals during the pregnancy starting tomorrow."
After Martin finished speaking, he started to get up.
But he heard Victoria laugh bitterly: "You're going to marry Mia anyway, why do you need this baby?"
"My decision doesn't require your input." Martin didn't even turn his head, warning: "What happened today, I don't want to see it happen again. Victoria, if anything happens to this child, I'll make the entire Gonzalez family pay with their lives!"
Hearing this, Victoria felt extremely heavy-hearted.
Martin was such a jerk—after being all lovey-dovey with Mia, he was using the Gonzalez family to force her to have the baby!
How could this child possibly be born?
She would rather die than give birth—her body simply wouldn't allow it.
"Martin, I'm telling you again, this child can never come into this world." Victoria murmured.
As soon as she finished speaking, Martin turned around, walked up to her, and suddenly grabbed her chin, smiling coldly: "You're not in a position to negotiate with me! Victoria, this is your last bargaining chip to save the Gonzalez family!"
Victoria's chin hurt from his grip.
It hurt so much that tears filled her eyes.
Martin's expression was complicated. He suddenly released her chin and turned to go to the bathroom.
"Martin, I have something to tell you."
Victoria bit her lip. She needed to tell him, she needed to tell him she had terminal liver cancer!
"Didn't you say you didn't want to talk?"
"I really have something to tell you, it's very important."
"Tell me after I shower."
Martin said coldly and went into the bathroom.
Soon, the sound of water came from the bathroom, splashing against the tile floor.
Victoria removed the thin blanket from her knees, got up from the sofa, and walked in her slippers to the master bedroom.
In the master bedroom, there was a locked drawer.
She opened it with a key. Inside the drawer was a diary.
And a stack of documents about her medical condition.
Victoria took out the documents and held them, looking through them. These documents showed that her condition had severely deteriorated, to the point where even surgery was difficult.
She didn't know how Martin would react when he saw these documents.
Would he clap his hands in celebration, or would he pity her and let her abort the baby?
Victoria took out the notebook and opened it. She hadn't written in her diary for a long time.
But today was worth recording.
She took the pen clipped to the notebook and wrote:
"Countdown: 15 days.
I'm pregnant. Need to abort the baby quickly to live a few more days. Today I'll tell Martin about my illness. Hope the mute boy is found soon, hope to receive Tamsin's gift soon."
"And I hope Martin lives a long life, healthy and pain-free."
Just as she finished writing, the bathroom door opened.
Victoria quickly capped the pen, closed the notebook, and put it back in the drawer.
Martin entered the master bedroom and saw her hurriedly locking the drawer. His eyes turned cold as he walked over: "What are you sneaking around locking up? Something you don't want me to see?"
"Nothing I can't show you. Martin, if you want to see, I can open it right now and show you." Victoria's hand gripping the key suddenly clenched.
Victoria opened her palm with the key: "The key is here. Do you want to look?"
Martin studied the key for a few seconds, then glanced at Victoria's pale face.
He naturally guessed that this drawer contained her secret, probably related to the mute boy.
What good would opening it do? Besides making him angry and escalating their conflict, it would serve no purpose.
He could tear up everything related to the mute boy, but he couldn't control Victoria's heart that missed him!
"You'd better keep it hidden, don't dirty my eyes!" Martin sneered, holding a towel and drying the water droplets from his hair.
Victoria smiled bitterly. So he didn't want to know her secrets at all.
What about her illness then?
He probably wasn't interested in knowing that either.
Victoria felt deeply disappointed.
"What did you want to tell me earlier?"
"Nothing." Victoria lowered her eyes, smiling bitterly.
"Good. Change your clothes, we're going out to eat."
"I'll cook myself."
"Victoria, I don't want to repeat myself. You have ten minutes. If I don't see you changed in ten minutes, don't blame me for not being nice." Martin's intention was that Victoria was pregnant now and shouldn't be doing things herself—too tiring, not good for the baby.
But her cold attitude made him angry.
Victoria changed her clothes and followed Martin out.
He actually ordered a nutritious meal for pregnant women.
And kept putting food in her bowl, telling her to eat more.
Because Martin thought she looked very weak, probably due to malnutrition from the pregnancy.
Victoria noticed that during the meal, he kept watching her. His eyes were full of her.
As if they were still as loving as they were a year ago.
Victoria gripped her knife and fork tightly, feeling an inexplicable warmth in her heart. This gentle look from him was rare, especially after what happened to Hayden—he had changed.
"Martin, is this baby very important to you?" Victoria suddenly asked.
He blurted out: "Of course."
"What's more important, the baby or my safety?" Victoria probed subconsciously.
Martin narrowed his eyes: "They don't conflict."
"What if they do? Martin, I want to tell you why I can't have this baby. Do you want to hear it?" Victoria pressed her lips together, her heart twisting into a knot.
