Chapter 35 She Is Not Qualified Enough

Chapter 35 She Is Not Qualified Enough

After Jennifer and Arthur left the seminar, shame, anger, and intense unwillingness hit her all at once. Jennifer couldn't hold back her tears anymore.

"Arthur, do you think Beatrice was deliberately targeting me?"

"I admit we have some personal issues, but she can't use her position to settle personal scores like this!"

Arthur didn't respond. He actually felt that Beatrice won today because of her own abilities.

Sure, proposals could be ghostwritten, but when so many chemistry professionals asked questions on the spot, being able to answer everything fluently - that kind of skill couldn't be faked.

On the other hand, Jennifer's proposal, which she claimed to have poured her heart into, had been heavily edited by someone he paid good money for. When it came to the Q&A session, Jennifer's true level was completely exposed.

Thinking about this, Arthur felt something he couldn't quite describe.

Before, he always thought Beatrice was useless, while Jennifer seemed perfect to him.

But ever since Beatrice asked him for a divorce, he was shocked to discover she was far more capable than he had imagined.

Meanwhile, the troubles Jennifer kept causing made him gradually realize that she was just an ordinary woman, nowhere near as perfect as he had thought.

Jennifer was still crying beside him. Arthur glanced at her and eventually softened.

"Stop crying. I invested so much in this new company - even if they didn't choose your proposal, pulling some strings for you won't be hard."

Hearing this, Jennifer felt a bit better, though she was still somewhat uncomfortable.

"Arthur, I'm lucky to have you, but wouldn't that be cheating?"

She still hoped to earn recognition from Sean and other big names through her own abilities.

"Your proposal was pretty good too - it's enough to get you into their company. Don't overthink it, just leave the rest to me."

Jennifer nodded with red eyes.

Thank goodness for Arthur. Even though Beatrice won today's competition, Arthur was spending money and effort to support Jennifer. Beatrice must be feeling awful too.

After Arthur took Jennifer back to the hotel, he quickly contacted the new company's boss - Calvin Reynolds, who was now Ethan and Beatrice's senior.

Because Arthur had invested heavily in the new company, Calvin personally received him and Jennifer.

"Thank you, Mr. Capulet, for making such a significant contribution to the development of chemistry."

Arthur clinked glasses with Calvin: "Don't mention it. This investment is for someone very important to me."

Calvin, who knew about Arthur and Beatrice's relationship, froze for a moment. For the sake of the investment, he forced himself to hold back his urge to criticize him and Jennifer, and just smiled faintly without saying anything.

Jennifer's face flushed with excitement. She knew Arthur treated her well, but this was the first time he had said she was important in front of an outsider.

"Arthur, don't say such things in front of Mr. Reynolds - you're embarrassing me!"

Arthur glanced at the shy Jennifer, a trace of surprise crossing his eyes.

What's gotten into her?

Finding their lovey-dovey behavior unbearable to watch, Calvin changed the subject: "So what can I do for you today, Mr. Capulet?"

"I'll be direct. Miss Rivera here has always been passionate about chemistry. At yesterday's seminar, her proposal was unanimously recognized by the judges. Though she narrowly lost, she has never given up her pursuit and exploration of chemistry over the years. I wonder if Mr. Reynolds could give her a chance?"

Calvin immediately understood.

So that's why Arthur suddenly invested in his new company - it was for his mistress.

He generally didn't approve of this kind of thing, but as long as the money was right, making an occasional exception wasn't impossible.

After all, Jennifer's level was barely qualified to join his company.

Thinking this way, Calvin smiled against his conscience: "No problem. After all, Miss Rivera's achievements in chemistry could be considered genius-level."

"Really?" Jennifer's face lit up with excitement: "Does this mean Mr. Reynolds is willing to introduce me to Mr. Morris?"

"What? You want to meet Mr. Morris?"

Calvin's smile froze on his face, unable to believe what he was hearing.

"Yes, I've admired Mr. Morris for a long time. I heard he recently started a new team and is researching some project. I wonder if I could have the honor of joining?"

Calvin was completely speechless. Jennifer's level, and she still dreamed of joining Sean's team - to clean the floors maybe?

He wouldn't dare dream that big!

For Arthur's sake, Calvin didn't crush her hopes, but gently reminded her: "Miss Rivera, Mr. Morris's team consists of the industry's top talents. The requirements to join are very strict."

"Are you saying my level isn't good enough?" Jennifer simply didn't believe it.

Calvin hadn't expected that even after speaking so clearly, Jennifer would still insist on humiliating herself. He helplessly nodded.

Her level wasn't just not enough - she didn't even have the qualifications to meet Sean.

Jennifer was unwilling to accept this and wanted to say more, but Arthur interrupted her.

Arthur said: "Mr. Reynolds, I'm a layman when it comes to chemistry, but wasn't Miss Rivera's previous proposal quite good? Or could you clearly tell us what Mr. Morris's team's hiring standards are?"

If Jennifer really wasn't suitable, they would drop it. Arthur was worried that because of him, Beatrice might be secretly blocking Jennifer and obstructing her development in the chemistry industry, which would be bad.

Seeing they wouldn't give up, Calvin felt helpless.

After hesitating, he took out from his briefcase the first version of the proposal that Beatrice had written when she first joined Sean's team, which had been rejected, and handed it to Arthur and Jennifer.

"Put it this way - this is a draft that was previously rejected by Mr. Morris. Miss Rivera should at least reach this level before considering joining Mr. Morris's team."

Jennifer took it and flipped through two pages, instantly going from disbelief to shock.

The level of this proposal was something she couldn't produce even if she worked non-stop for a year.

"This is just a rejected draft?"

Arthur, seeing Jennifer's reaction, got the picture: "Looks like we've been presumptuous. But I'm curious - whose rejected draft is this? It's not Beatrice's, is it?"

His intuition told him this proposal might have something to do with Beatrice.

Besides pulling strings for Jennifer, Arthur had come to see Calvin partly to learn about Beatrice's recent situation.

But asking directly might make Jennifer overthink it. She'd been in a bad mood lately, and he didn't want to upset her further.

Yet this seemingly casual question was already too much for Jennifer to handle.

When did that useless woman Beatrice become so impressive in Arthur's eyes?

"Arthur, stop joking. Not just anyone can write a proposal of this level. If I'm not mistaken, this proposal must be from Mr. Reynolds himself, or one of Mr. Morris's other students, right?"

Calvin smiled faintly: "Sorry, due to the research center's confidentiality agreement, I can't reveal the original author of this proposal. I can only say that the original author wrote this proposal in just three days."

Although for the sake of the investment, Calvin couldn't openly criticize this cheating couple, he was more than happy to take this opportunity to put Jennifer in her place on Beatrice's behalf.
