Chapter 42
"I don't want it."
Josephine turned and walked away.
Aaron chased after her relentlessly. "The moment you see me, Josephine, you don't even want the car anymore? Do you hate me that much? But I think you're beautiful, your voice is pleasant, and you're exactly my type."
Josephine stopped in her tracks. "Are you disgusting or what?"
If it were anyone else saying this, Aaron would have gotten angry long ago, but with her, it felt different. "I'm just telling the truth. Josephine, why are you so bossy? Won't even let me speak the truth?"
"...Maybe you should go see a doctor."
Aaron must have something wrong with his brain. Josephine quickened her pace out of the store, just wanting to get away from this troublemaker as soon as possible. Aaron quickly stepped in front of Josephine, raising his arm against the wall to block her path.
Josephine took a deep breath, holding back her anger. "What exactly do you want?"
Aaron grinned. "Josephine, you know perfectly well what I want."
He leaned down slightly, his hot breath spraying on Josephine's cheek like a snake's tongue, making the tiny hairs on that patch of skin stand up immediately.
She dodged backward. "Aaron!"
"I'm here, Josephine. What can I do for you?"
"Get lost."
"No."
Aaron hooked his arm around Josephine's waist and lowered his head to kiss her, not caring at all that this was a busy street, much less that people were watching nearby.
A slap successfully interrupted his audacity.
Josephine clenched her teeth tightly, glaring at Aaron. "Have you forgotten the lesson from back then?"
Aaron had looked down on Gideon and made things difficult for him in every way back then. Later, he turned his attention to Josephine, attacking her openly and secretly, but Josephine wasn't afraid of any of it.
Such a woman successfully stirred up Aaron's fighting spirit.
But this targeting had somehow changed without him realizing it. He went from wanting to crush her into the dust to wanting to have her.
He wanted to see this Josephine beneath him, showing an expression different from her usual cold pride.
He was going crazy with wanting it.
"If Gideon had the guts, he should have broken one of my legs back then, or just crippled me completely. That would have taught me a real lesson and eliminated future problems." Aaron grinned mockingly. "But he didn't, because he didn't dare."
He took a step forward, his eyes greedily fixed on Josephine.
"A man like that can't protect you."
"I don't need a man to protect me. I'm just warning you—three years ago, I made Gideon almost break your leg. Now, I have other ways too."
She dropped that warning and turned to leave.
Aaron raised his hand to wipe the corner of his mouth. His cheek was numb and swollen from the slap, showing that Josephine hadn't held back at all. That slap was extremely harsh.
What to do—the harsher she was, the more he wanted her.
He turned and went into that car dealership.
---
Josephine deliberately chose a store farther away and picked out a car, but unfortunately this car didn't perform as well as the one at the previous store, though the price was the same.
"Bastard."
When signing, she couldn't help cursing.
If it weren't for that guy suddenly showing up, she would have already driven that car home by now.
She hadn't driven in a long time. Since deciding to come home and take care of the family half a year ago, she hadn't been to the office anymore. The servants usually bought groceries and brought them home, so she stayed home all day and didn't even need to go out.
Gripping the steering wheel again felt completely different.
It was like her hands were grasping her future destiny, and where this car would go was for her to decide.
She drove the car back to Clearwater Ridge. Less than a minute after entering the living room, someone called her phone.
"Is this Ms. Kennedy?"
"Who's calling, please?"
"Your car has arrived."
Josephine instinctively looked at her phone screen, suspecting the person might have called the wrong number, perhaps someone with the same name. "I didn't buy a car."
"It was purchased by a Mr. Getty, and he asked us to personally deliver the car to your building. Ms. Kennedy, we have other work to do, so please come downstairs as soon as possible."
Josephine opened the door. The silver car she had seen before was now parked at her doorstep. The delivery person was wearing a black suit, and his voice was exactly the same as on the phone.
"Ms. Kennedy, please sign for it."
"I'm sorry, I can't sign." Josephine already knew who had sent it.
"But this car is for you. If you don't accept it, I can't drive it back either."
This was the first time the staff member had seen someone refuse a luxury car.
Josephine said flatly, "Whoever bought it, send it back to them. In any case, I won't take it."
With that, Josephine closed the door behind her.
The staff member was left outside and had no choice but to call the buyer.
"Mr. Getty, Ms. Kennedy refuses to accept it."
Aaron was holding a woman in his arms and kissed her on the lips. "That's just like her."
"Then the car..."
"Keep it at your store."
He hung up the phone. The woman in his arms acted coquettishly. "Who are you buying a car for? I've known you for so long, and you've never given me a car."
"My little baby." Aaron lifted the woman's chin and kissed the corner of her lips lightly, then the next second pushed the woman directly to the floor.
The woman sat on the floor looking at him in shock.
Aaron sneered. "What are you? How dare you compare yourself to her?"
"Mr. Getty, I know I was wrong..."
The woman cried pitifully, but Aaron was unmoved, as if all the tenderness and intimacy from just now were fake, and this cold, sinister version of him was real.
He fiddled with his phone, somewhat impatiently.
Soon, a message popped up on his phone.
[Gideon's affair partner is named Lorelei Kelly.]
---
Aaron's repeated appearances were like a signal of an impending crisis.
Although Josephine spoke fiercely, she inevitably felt somewhat uneasy inside.
She hated dealing with this kind of person the most—clingy and aggressive, with no bottom line or sense of morality, and he happened to be the son of the Getty family. Simply difficult to the point of giving her a headache.
While cutting vegetables in the evening, she accidentally cut her finger. Blood immediately gushed out. She hurried to look for a first aid kit, but after searching for a long time, she found nothing.
She suddenly remembered that she had only moved here half a month ago and didn't have a first aid kit at home.
She hastily grabbed some tissues to wrap around her finger. The pressure from the tissues worked, and the finger gradually stopped bleeding.
At that moment, someone rang the doorbell.
Josephine went to open the door. Her attention was on the wound, and she didn't look to see who was outside before opening the door. When she saw it was Gideon, she immediately tried to close it.
Gideon held the door with his hand. "You said you wanted to move here. You said not to bother you. You went to work at Cedric's company. I agreed to all of this. So why now? Don't you even want to see me anymore?"
He was clearly upset. Josephine felt she had been too obvious lately, but she really wasn't in the mood to placate him right now.
So she just thrust her hand in front of him.
Gideon saw that the tissue was already soaked with blood and immediately panicked, quickly holding her wrist. "What happened? How did you get hurt so badly?"
Josephine said softly, "It hurts a bit."
"I'm taking you to the hospital right now."
Although only one finger was injured, Gideon's attitude was as serious as if she had injured her wrist artery. A 15-minute drive was completed in just 10 minutes.
When the doctor was bandaging, he stood beside watching.
Then his phone suddenly rang.
Josephine glanced at it unconsciously.
It was Lorelei calling.
Gideon hung up directly, staring at the doctor's movements. "Please be gentle. My wife is sensitive to pain."
