Chapter 245
Flashbulbs went off wildly at Josephine on stage as reporters thrust their microphones forward:
"Ms. Kennedy, is what this lady said true?"
"Did you really push a pregnant woman and cause premature birth?"
"What exactly is your relationship with Gideon?"
"Did you get into Getty Group not because of your abilities, but because of your close relationship with Gideon?"
"There were rumors you'd been to Gideon's house. Did you two sleep together?"
The questions were blunt and ugly.
Josephine's expression turned ice-cold.
Lorelei lifted her tear-streaked face, her voice trembling and choked. "Gideon and I are getting married soon. Our baby is so small... Ms. Kennedy, I don't know what I did wrong, but if you resent me, come after me—don't hurt such a small child."
Josephine stepped down from the stage and slowly walked toward Lorelei.
Before she could speak, Lorelei immediately stepped back, clutching the baby protectively.
As if afraid Josephine would attack her in public.
A reporter immediately demanded, "Ms. Kennedy, what are you doing? Are you going to assault her in front of everyone?"
Briana glanced at that person, satisfaction flashing in her eyes, then glared furiously at Josephine. "Enough! My son is marrying Lorelei next month. You two have no future. Stop clinging to him and stop trying to destroy their family."
They twisted the truth masterfully.
Josephine's face was cold. She was about to speak when Lorelei suddenly dropped to her knees.
Her knees hit the tile hard.
Josephine froze.
Lorelei knelt on the ground, her knees pressed against the cold floor, face upturned and covered in tears. "That day in the alley, I really just wanted to talk to you... I'm begging you, please stop pursuing Gideon. We finally have this family... If you truly resent me, come after me."
With one hand holding the baby, she used the other to slap her own face.
Three times in a row!
For a moment, everyone was stunned. Then came a flood of sympathy and pity.
"Ma'am, don't be afraid. We're all here. If Josephine dares hurt you, we'll call the police immediately!"
"Yes, stand up! Don't kneel to her!"
"She's the one in the wrong!"
The crowd was indignant.
Briana seized the opportunity to fan the flames. "Shameless slut! Seducing my son all these years wasn't enough—now that our Lorelei is pregnant, she attacks our Getty family's grandson! A woman like this belongs in prison!"
Josephine looked coldly at the theatrical performance from Lorelei and Briana. She was actually amused. Today of all days—they deliberately chose this moment.
They came to cause a scene.
"Gideon, aren't you going to do something?"
Seeing her icy gaze, Gideon had already reached his limit. He stepped forward and grabbed Lorelei's wrist, pulling her up with a grip that seemed gentle but brooked no resistance.
His face was expressionless, suppressing his anger as he warned quietly, "Stop this."
Lorelei seemed somewhat incredulous, then swallowed her grievance and lowered her head. "I know you don't believe Ms. Kennedy wanted to harm us. That's fine. As long as you stop seeing her in the future, I won't hold anything against you..."
Watching her affected performance, Josephine almost laughed.
She'd originally planned not to make a scene—at least wait until after the press conference. But now... some people weren't giving her that option.
Josephine returned to the stage, her voice carrying through the microphone across the venue.
"If we're talking about third parties, there is one. And that person is in this hall."
Unease flashed through Lorelei's eyes. "Ms. Kennedy, don't say that. I never called you a third party. I just hope you can keep your distance from my future husband. Mr. David Getty is already displeased with Gideon over this. I don't want him fighting with his family because of you."
She deliberately mentioned David—a warning to Josephine.
Years ago, Cedric's father had an affair that drove his wife to suicide. It caused a huge scandal. The Getty family's reputation plummeted, becoming gossip fodder wherever they went.
Since then, David refused to allow any affair scandals in the Getty family. He especially wouldn't allow Josephine to go public. Once she did, this child and Lorelei would be ironclad proof of Gideon's infidelity.
The reputation the Getty family had worked so hard to rebuild would be damaged again.
The reason David had agreed to give Josephine half the assets after the divorce was on the condition that she never publicly reveal her marriage to Gideon.
So until now, everyone knew Gideon was divorced.
But no one knew why, and no one knew about Gideon and Lorelei's relationship.
Lorelei was certain Josephine wouldn't dare speak!
Today, Josephine would have to swallow this humiliation. Otherwise, David would never let her go!
Josephine knew exactly what Lorelei was thinking. Which is why she refused to comply. "I was married once. Three years. We met in college and knew each other for nearly six years total."
The entire venue fell deathly silent.
The next moment, an even greater uproar erupted.
"What?"
"She's Mrs. Getty?"
"Gideon's ex-wife?"
Lorelei stood frozen in place, her arms unconsciously tightening around the baby.
How dare she? How could she just say it like that?
Wasn't she worried David would come after her for this?
Josephine looked at her coldly. "If you want proof, I have it."
She pulled out her phone and opened a social media account. The username read: Mrs. Getty.
Everyone recognized this account. The identity of Mrs. Getty had been so mysterious—everyone knew Gideon was married and treasured his wife, keeping her deeply hidden.
But no one had ever seen her.
This account had silently shared Gideon's posts for years, and the two had even interacted.
Gideon himself had confirmed the account owner was his wife!
But what no one expected was that while this account showed them only certain posts, the hidden content revealed photos of the two of them.
Wedding photos. Vacation pictures together. Anniversary gifts.
Hands with wedding rings, fingers intertwined.
On a snowy mountain, the two embraced. Gideon looked down at his wife with such focused, obsessive devotion, his arm around her so possessive.
All this affection, hidden in these posts.
Never shown to anyone.
And every post, though private, was timestamped, clearly documenting every moment of these six years.
First meeting. Gideon's pursuit. Becoming official. Embracing under the stars.
A small complaint after their wedding night—because her husband loved his wife too much, leaving her sore all over.
Words, pictures—every detail proved how deeply in love they'd once been.
Lorelei never imagined Josephine had documented all this!
"You... how could you..."
Gideon's eyes filled with complex emotions. His chest felt stuffed with cotton. He stared deeply at Josephine's cold profile.
So she'd recorded their entire past.
So she'd once loved him that much.
"Jojo..."
He opened his mouth, a thousand words to say, but a figure suddenly blocked his path. Cedric's broad back faced Gideon, cutting off everything left unsaid.
"My brother married Josephine. I can testify to that."
Briana's expression changed drastically, her voice shrill. "Cedric! Stop spouting nonsense! You and Gideon have never gotten along. Now you're making up lies to ruin my son's reputation! You're clearly worried Gideon might inherit the family business, so you're deliberately slandering him! What did Josephine offer you to help her like this?"
Cedric glanced at her dismissively.
"Death throes."
