Chapter 220
Willow hadn't expected her luck to be this good—she'd only come to test the waters, but she'd managed to run into Rachel right away.
In the hospital room, Rachel was still ranting at Samara.
"Gloria, Willow—I'll never forgive them! It's all their fault! All their fault!"
Ever since Charles found out about her miscarriage, he'd been even colder to her than before. Rachel was losing her mind. Now, after being played by Gloria again, she practically wanted them all dead.
Samara hadn't fully recovered from her surgery yet. Seeing her daughter like this made her anxious, too, but she felt helpless to comfort her.
When Rachel finally quieted down a bit, Samara was about to speak when someone knocked on the door.
"Get out! We don't need anything!" Rachel snapped without turning around, thinking it was a nurse coming to check her IV.
But Samara saw who was at the door, and her brow furrowed slightly. "Willow?"
At those words, Rachel's expression changed dramatically. She whipped around to look.
Seeing Willow's figure in the doorway, the hatred in Rachel's eyes nearly overflowed.
"Willow, you bitch! How dare you show your face in front of me!"
She glared at Willow through gritted teeth, slowly standing up like she was about to settle the score.
Willow's expression remained calm. "I heard everything you just said."
She gave Rachel a half-smile. "Including the part about your collaboration with Gloria."
Rachel showed no trace of guilt, screaming at her instead. "So what? Gloria's a bitch just like you! You both better watch out! I'll never let either of you get away with this!"
Willow waited for her to finish before asking coolly, "Really? What can you do without Gloria's help?"
"I..." Rachel opened her mouth but couldn't find words.
Gloria was the precious daughter of the Brown family. Even the Smith family had to mind their attitude around her. What could Rachel possibly do to Gloria?
As for Willow—according to Gloria, she'd already hooked up with Sterling. Even without Sterling, she was now publicly Charles's wife! The eldest daughter-in-law of the Lancaster family! Who in all of Majestic City would dare cross her?
Neither the Brown family nor the Lancaster family was a person she could afford to offend.
Realizing this, Rachel's face turned ugly.
She bit her lip hard, glaring hatefully at the person in front of her. "Willow, you came here just to gloat, didn't you? So what if Charlie made your relationship public? I'm the only one who's ever carried his child! Even if you two get back together, Charlie will never abandon me!"
Even now, she still hadn't given up on Charles.
Because of the Maria situation, Willow found her disgusting. But now, seeing her like this, Willow just felt sorry for her. Rachel had grown up wealthy and pampered, yet she'd thrown herself completely at a man like Charles.
Willow frowned with mixed emotions, her tone carrying disdain when she spoke. "No one wants to fight you for Charles. In fact, I can help you."
Rachel was too worked up to process what she'd said. "You're not welcome here! Get out! And don't you ever show up in front of my mother again!"
She tried to chase Willow away.
"Rachie." Samara's voice came from behind her.
Rachel's steps faltered.
Samara looked at Willow. "Ms. Spencer, you just said you could help Rachie be with Charles?"
Willow nodded slightly.
"Mom, you believe what she's saying? Don't forget, you were the one who warned me about Gloria's intentions!" Rachel couldn't believe it.
Samara glanced at her. "Sit down."
Then she looked back at Willow. "Ms. Spencer, please come in and close the door."
Willow's lips curved slightly. It looked like there was at least one smart person here.
She closed the door and walked into the room, sitting on the couch across from the bed.
Rachel sat on the edge of the bed, clearly displeased. "Mom, she won't help us. Don't be naive. Have you forgotten that she..."
Just as she was about to bring up something she shouldn't, Samara's face darkened, and she cut her off. "Rachie!"
Rachel reluctantly shut her mouth.
"Mrs. Smith is right. Your goals conflict with Gloria's, but they align with mine," Willow said calmly.
At her words, Rachel looked over with suspicion written all over her face.
Samara remained silent, apparently accepting Willow's explanation.
Willow met Rachel's gaze directly.
"Ms. Smith can rest assured—I don't have the bad habit of eating leftovers. I don't know if Charles told you, but our month-long cooling-off period is over. We've already finalized our divorce."
"If you don't believe me, I can go home and get the papers to show you."
She was playing on Rachel's psychology.
Sure enough, hearing that she and Charles were officially divorced, Rachel's eyes showed some wavering, though she still couldn't completely trust her words.
"If you're already divorced, then why didn't you come out to clarify today's online rumors?" Her tone still carried hostility.
Willow countered, "How should I clarify? By saying Charles and I are divorced?"
That would only confirm that she'd actually had a marriage with Charles.
She admitted that in this matter, she did have selfish motives.
Once this was confirmed, she and Sterling...
A trace of bitterness flashed in Willow's eyes before she quickly suppressed it. "The clarification Ms. Smith wants should be for me to deny that this marriage ever existed, right?"
She'd heard everything earlier. Rachel had probably already bragged to her friends and wouldn't want her marriage to Charles to be confirmed as real.
Rachel fell silent, her face still ugly but no longer arguing.
Willow paused for a few seconds before continuing. "You want Charles to marry you. I can help you, as long as after you're married, you can keep him in line and stop him from bothering me."
She looked at Rachel, her words carrying subtle guidance. "As Mrs. Smith said, in a way, your goals align with mine. Gloria just wants to use you. From the beginning, you chose the wrong partner."
Rachel stared intently at her face, not wanting to miss any detail of her expression.
This wasn't the first time Willow had said something like this.
But now that she was actually divorced from Charles, her words carried more credibility in Rachel's mind.
Still...
"You're willing to help me because you're afraid people will find out about your affair with Sterling, right?"
Connecting the dots from past events, Rachel finally figured it out and guessed the truth.
Willow's expression didn't change. "My private affairs are none of your business. Ms. Smith only needs to know that compared to Gloria, I'll genuinely help you. After all, Charles is all you care about, isn't it?"
Gloria was targeting her because she wanted to dominate her in every way.
But Rachel was only acting this way because she liked Charles.
Willow was confident she would agree to work together.
