Chapter 33 I Regret Marrying You
William deliberately pulled Isabella to an empty corner where only the two of them faced each other.
His aura was sharp and intimidating. Taking a step forward, his posture seemed to trap Isabella in the corner.
"Did you hear what people were saying about you and Richard just now?" William asked coldly.
Isabella found his behavior baffling. "How people talk about me is none of your business, is it?"
When neither of the parties involved had made any statements, what right did William, a mere bystander, have to comment?
"Don't forget, we're not divorced yet!" William's tone grew urgent, his gaze sharpening as he stared at Isabella. "You and Richard are so intimate, aren't you worried about Nathan and Olivia finding out and embarrassing them?"
Isabella felt a tightness in her chest, as if a heavy stone was pressing down on her. After hearing William's words, she actually laughed.
"I've seen plenty of people twist the truth, but you're the first to do it so righteously."
Isabella crossed her arms, looking at William with a mocking gaze. "What about you?"
"When you and Laura are out together acting like lovebirds, don't you ever think about being the father of two children?"
"When you left me stranded on that mountain, didn't you remember for even a second that I'm their mother and show some mercy?"
Her words fired like a machine gun, hitting William repeatedly.
His expression grew increasingly dark, but Isabella still didn't feel it was enough.
"William, don't hold yourself to one standard and everyone else to another."
"While I'm still willing to agree to an amicable divorce, we'd better get the paperwork done quickly. Otherwise, if this continues to escalate," Isabella paused, her eyes gleaming with mockery as she looked at William, "I might not agree to walk away with nothing."
"You're the party at fault in this marriage. During our marriage, you should give me at least half of your assets."
This was the result Isabella had gotten after consulting with Daphne.
Isabella figured that even if William didn't care about her, he would at least care about his assets.
This statement successfully ignited the last spark of William's anger.
His expression grew colder and colder, settling on Isabella like he wanted to freeze the blood in her veins.
After staring at Isabella for a long moment, William let out a cold laugh. "In your dreams."
Isabella had said many things, but William only replied with one simple sentence.
She wasn't quite sure which part of her statements he was refuting.
But it didn't matter what he was referring to—Isabella had already conveyed what she wanted to say.
Whether he took it seriously was William's own business.
When she got married, Isabella never imagined that one day she would have such an embarrassing conflict with William.
William's grip on Isabella's wrist tightened, as if he wanted to crush her wrist bone.
The malice in his gaze was even more frightening.
Anyone else would have been terrified.
But after these past few days, Isabella had grown accustomed to seeing William with this expression.
She calmly placed her other hand on William's, expressionlessly applying force to pry his fingers off her wrist one by one.
After breaking free from that iron-like grip, Isabella's lips curved in a mocking smile.
Her expression was also cold, but it was because she found their current state ridiculous.
Isabella and William, whom she once thought she could spend a stable life with, had a falling out. They looked at each other, filled only with the purest hatred for one another."I regret marrying you."
If she hadn't wasted these six years on William, Isabella should have devoted herself to her beloved career, shining in her field of expertise. Maybe her previous projects would have achieved remarkable success by now, and then she could have gone to graduate school and pursued a PhD under her professor's recommendation.
That would have been a bright and brilliant path. Since the marriage fell apart, what Isabella regretted most was not seizing the opportunity to advance her career back then.
Getting married so young, only to end up with a worthless man.
William felt his breathing catch for a moment.
He could keenly sense that beneath Isabella's angry words lay genuine hatred.
She turned and left, leaving William with only a resolute, departing figure.
Not far from them, Laura saw Isabella walk away after confronting William and quickly approached.
"Isabella just has a bit of a temper. As long as you two talk things through properly, she's still willing to listen to your advice." Laura maintained her understanding image.
A pair of soft hands proactively reached for William's arm, pulling him close intimately.
William suddenly remembered Isabella's earlier mockery about his inappropriate relationship with Laura.
Their intertwined hands and Laura's eager, forward attitude toward him touched William's nerves, already sensitive from Isabella's provocation.
William brushed away Laura's hand that was holding his arm, his handsome face expressionless, making his current mood impossible to read.
Laura's heart also skipped a beat, her mind racing to figure out what she'd done wrong to displease William.
"Be careful about appearances in front of others. I'm not divorced yet."
William's sudden words made Laura feel both embarrassed and anxious.
She keenly sensed that, probably because of his fight with Isabella, William's attitude toward her had changed noticeably.
Not long after Isabella left William, Richard returned.
He brought Isabella into the others' game, introducing her to people one by one.
These people all had impressive backgrounds.
They were either famous company founders or trust fund heirs with influential families in Seaside City.
Each of them was not someone to mess with.
Despite their power and influence, these people exuded an approachable quality.
Knowing that Isabella was just an ordinary employee at Richard's company, they didn't show the slightest hint of looking down on her.
A group of big shots were all very friendly, leaving Isabella as the only small fish feeling somewhat out of place among them.
While playing with them, Isabella spotted the young woman who had spoken up for her earlier today.
Surprisingly, she turned out to be Scarlett Lewis, a senior partner at the nationally renowned Everwin Law Firm.
She was exactly the type of person Isabella most admired and respected—someone who had made a name for herself in her field at such a young age.
Despite a table full of highly intelligent people, the game they played was refreshingly simple.
Truth or dare with a spinning bottle—whoever the bottle pointed to had to play.
Isabella had drunk two cocktails and felt warm all over, her head slightly dizzy but excited.
The glass bottle wobbled and swayed before finally stopping with its mouth pointing in Isabella's direction.
Everyone around the table started cheering, urging Isabella to quickly choose a challenge.
Even the lights in the private room seemed to be encouraging Isabella, with a beam falling on her, making her the center of everyone's attention.
