Chapter207 After Surviving
Chapter207 After Surviving
Third Person POV
The last gunshot faded, and Steven took control of the scene immediately.
He posted two guards at both ends of the corridor, then led the rest of his men through a sweep of the floor, counting survivors and clearing the dead.
He ordered a full lockdown on the hospital's security footage and every access point between floors. Grayson's remaining men were taken down one group at a time, weapons seized, hands zip-tied, and held together under guard.
Andrew called for a transport and got the unconscious, critically wounded Klaus moved back up to the top floor trauma room.
Emma ran beside the cart the whole way.
Her clothes were soaked through with Klaus's blood. She didn't stop moving until the trauma room door closed in front of her and the red indicator light came on.
She stood in the corridor. When she looked down, she realized her legs had been shaking the entire time and hadn't stopped.
The light above the trauma room door stayed on for hours.
Inside, Andrew cut into the wound in Klaus's chest and extracted the deformed silver bullets one by one. He cleared the blood vessels and muscle tissue damaged by the toxin, sutured the torn wound closed, and ran a careful check on the brain surgery site to confirm the head injury hadn't been disturbed.
When he finally came out, he pulled off his mask and looked at Emma, who had been standing at the door the entire time.
"He's stable for now," Andrew said.
Emma's legs gave out the moment she heard it. She sat down hard on the corridor floor.
She covered her face with both hands, her shoulders trembling. She had almost lost him again.
--
When Klaus woke up, he had already been moved to a recovery room in the critical care unit.
Emma was in the chair beside the bed, the exhaustion showing clearly under her eyes.
Klaus opened his eyes and scanned the room first out of reflex, confirming it was safe. Then he turned his head toward Emma. His fingers moved against the sheets.
Emma saw him wake up and immediately reached out and took his hand.
Klaus felt the warmth of her palm and slowly let out a breath.
Andrew came in, checked the monitors, and gave a brief summary of the injuries. He made it very clear that Klaus was to stay in bed and not move, or the sutures in his chest would tear open again.
Klaus listened without commenting on his own condition.
He turned his head toward Steven, who was standing in the doorway.
"Steven."
"There's a voice recorder at Bella's place. I left it there when I lost my memory."
"It has evidence of everything. The Crescent Pack's arrangement with Grayson, the years of selling out the Golden Moon Pack, the plot against the Winston family. Go get it."
Steven understood immediately. He nodded and walked out.
--
The audio files on the recorder were extracted without delay.
Every detail of the operation against the Winston family ten years ago, and every move Grayson had made over the years to seize power, was now on record with direct evidence.
--
Half a month later, Klaus's condition had stabilized enough to travel. He went back to the Golden Moon Pack's territory still carrying his injuries.
The Elder Council, the board leadership, and every affiliated pack leader were summoned to headquarters.
Klaus sat at the head of the long table. His face was still pale. He still had bandaging around his chest. He set the voice recorder on the table, followed by the investigation files on the old case, and then the documents detailing Grayson's years of quietly redirecting funds and territorial assets. He put it all down, one piece at a time.
No one at the table said a word.
Klaus leaned back in his chair and looked down both sides of the table.
He announced the immediate removal of every person in Grayson's faction from their positions and stripped them of all authority. He ordered Steven to lead a full investigation into everyone who had played any role in the uprising ten years ago.
Then he formally declared that the Golden Moon Pack was severing all ties with the Crescent Pack, effective immediately. The pack would be moving to a war footing.
After the meeting ended, Klaus held a formal memorial service in the headquarters hall for the Winstons, who had been gone for years.
--
The hall was full of white flowers on the day of the service.
Emma carried a bouquet and walked slowly to stand before her parents' portraits.
She set the flowers down and stood there for a long time.
Mrs. Brown came in with Soren, who had made a full recovery. He was clear-headed and calm. Mrs. Brown came straight to Emma and took both her hands. She said a great many things, returning again and again to how Emma had pulled Soren back from the edge of something terrible.
Emma listened and smiled and said a few quiet words in return.
She turned and spotted Severus standing in the corner of the hall.
He was wearing a black suit, standing very still. Emma walked over and thanked him for everything he had done during the months at the hospital and in Redstone City.
Severus looked at her, and a small smile crossed his face.
"You look more and more like her," he said, meeting her eyes. "Be happy. You deserve that."
Emma's eyes went warm.
She nodded once, then turned and walked back to her parents' portraits.
Grace came up beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"You did it, sweetheart." Grace's voice wasn't quite steady.
--
The day after the memorial, Alistair called Emma into the hospital for a comprehensive physical.
He had heard about Emma's forced awakening in the hospital corridor that night, and he was worried about irreversible damage to her system.
When the test results came back, he stood there for a moment looking at the report without speaking.
"The force that came through you when you saved Klaus," he said finally, "it healed you at the same time."
He handed Emma the report. "The damage from the car accident years ago, and the physical toll of suppressing your bloodline for so long, it's all repairing itself. Your reproductive system is recovering." He paused. "You can have children again."
Emma sat in the chair and said nothing for a while.
She had thought those things were gone forever. She had made peace with never becoming a mother. She had accepted it as fact, because the alternative was too painful to carry.
But the report in her hands was telling her something different.
--
Both Klaus and Emma had survived. They were back at Golden Moon Pack headquarters.
But the fear of how close they had come to dying didn't leave them quickly.
Klaus would wake in the middle of the night without warning. The first thing he did every time, before his eyes had even fully adjusted, was reach beside him. Checking that Emma was there.
During the day, Emma would be standing at her lab bench when the memory would come back without warning. Her eyes would go blank. Her breath would go short. She would have to stand still and wait for it to pass.
It was only now, with both of them alive, that they truly understood what they had survived.
Coming back to each other, being able to hold the other person's hand again, that had cost them more than either could say. They didn't talk about it directly. They just quietly confirmed the other person's existence, over and over, in the only way they could manage.
