Chapter199 Dignity Third Person POV
The terrace was wide, its floor laid with square grey stone. A carved stone railing ran along the edge, waist high.
Justin walked to the railing and stopped. One hand rested on the broad stone ledge as he looked out over the dark stretch of forest that spread across Moon River's territory.
The wind came in from the direction of the trees and pushed a few loose strands of hair across his forehead.
He didn't reach up to fix it. He just stood there.
Fiona came out from the banquet hall and pulled the glass door shut behind her.
The terrace went quiet.
She walked over and stopped beside him.
She looked at the glass in his hand, then at his profile. No expression on it whatsoever.
She didn't ease into it. "Tonight, were you performing for your mother or for me?"
Justin glanced at her.
He held her gaze for a second, then looked back out at the dark.
He didn't answer.
"You sat through the whole dinner. You gave everyone the respect they came for. I'm grateful for that." Fiona looked out at the night as she spoke. "But I could tell. You haven't made your peace with this."
Justin's fingers shifted slightly on the glass. He was quiet for a few seconds.
"Whether I've made peace with it doesn't matter anymore."
Fiona kept her eyes on his face and said nothing.
Justin turned to face her directly.
He looked at her and finally said what had been sitting at the bottom of everything.
"I gave my word, and I'll keep it." His voice was steady. "I'll give you every bit of dignity you're owed. That's all I can give."
Fiona held his gaze for a long moment.
When she finally broke the silence, her voice was very calm.
"Is this alliance for Moon River's sake, or is it your way of making yourself stop hoping?"
Justin brought the whiskey to his lips and drank.
Fiona stood beside him and waited.
"She came here," Justin said at last. His voice was low, almost swallowed by the wind. He was still looking at the black line of the forest. "And she cut me out of her life herself."
He said it without any expression on his face.
No anger. No grief. No protest. Just a flat, final quiet that felt heavier than any of those things.
Fiona understood now.
"I see." Her tone returned to something rational, practical. "You're not saying yes because you've moved on. You're saying yes because there's nowhere left to go. She closed the door."
Justin looked at her. He didn't deny it.
Fiona pressed on and pulled the conversation back to solid ground.
"I didn't come out here tonight to hear about how much you loved her, and I'm not interested in competing with something that's already over." Her voice was direct. "There's only one thing I care about."
She paused. Her eyes stayed level on his.
"You said yes. Can you follow through?"
Justin met her gaze.
"I don't need your love and I don't need your guilt," Fiona said. Her chin lifted slightly, the Florence family's pride coming through clearly. "I need your word to mean something. You agreed to this alliance. My father has his reputation. My family has ours. I won't spend the rest of my life watching my Alpha lose control over another woman."
Justin was quiet for a moment.
"That won't happen," he said flatly.
"Good." Fiona nodded once. "I'll be what Catherine needs me to be for Moon River. A proper Luna."
"I have one condition." Justin's voice didn't change, but the look in his eyes sharpened.
Fiona wasn't surprised.
"Go ahead."
"Starting today, you and my mother leave Emma alone."
"You're getting everything you asked for. Territory. Resources. The alliance. I've agreed to all of it." His gaze didn't move. "But Emma is done being part of this. That's where it ends."
He paused.
"She walks her path. Moon River walks its own. Nobody crosses that line."
"You have my word." Fiona looked at him evenly. "As for Catherine, that's between you and her. I can't speak for your mother."
Justin gave a single nod. Nothing more needed to be said. The terms had been laid out. The agreement was made.
He turned back to the railing. Both hands rested on the stone ledge. His silhouette was absorbed into the night, and he looked completely alone.
Fiona stayed where she was for a moment, watching his back.
She understood now. This man was standing on Moon River's land. He was about to become her husband. But the most real part of him had been left somewhere else, and it was never coming back.
"Tomorrow at ten, the tailoring team arrives with the rings." Fiona said it simply, as a reminder before she left. "Don't be late."
She turned and walked back inside.
The terrace was quiet again. Just Justin.
He stood at the railing and didn't move for a long time.
The wind kept coming, pulling the warmth out of the air, the cold creeping up from the stone beneath his feet.
A night bird called once from somewhere deep in the forest.
Justin slowly lowered his head.
He closed his eyes.
There was nothing left between him and Emma.
Nothing at all.

Back at Grayson's desk, a floor plan of Bridgewest Hospital was spread open beside staff rosters and a stack of freshly delivered name lists.
The enforcement unit head stood to the side. "Grand Elder, should we move on the hospital again tonight?"
"No." Grayson looked at the floor plan. His voice was cold and even. "Last time we sent the enforcement unit straight in. Too loud. It put them on full alert. We can't force our way in again."
He raised one hand.
"We already know Klaus's mind is broken. Right now, the only two things he needs are medication and Emma."
The enforcement unit head looked up.
Grayson continued, his voice dropping lower. "So those are the two things we go after."
He picked up the top name list and scanned it.
"Split our people up. No uniforms. Nurses on shift, pharmacy staff, elevator maintenance, night security. Whatever positions are open, fill them." He dropped the list back on the desk. "I want Bridgewest Hospital to become a net, from the inside out."
He looked at the man across from him.
"I want to know the ICU medication schedule. Meal delivery times. Shift changes. How many times Emma leaves the ward. When Andrew goes to the pharmacy. Where Steven's people are posted at every hour. I want all of it."
He paused. Something cold and deliberate settled into his expression.
"Klaus cannot be allowed to recover. And Emma cannot be allowed to stay by his side."
