Chapter 57 The Dreamy Man Calling Amber ‘Wife’
“What are you doing?”
He had just ended the call when he heard the familiar voice.
He paused, raised his eyes to stare into Amber’s face before lowering his eyes again.
“Aaron Foster didn’t succeed this time because Miss Romney didn’t betray us. What’s to assure us he won’t come back again trying to poach her?”
“If we sit back and do nothing, she’ll be snatched right under your nose. Do you want her taken right under your nose?”
Amber leaned against the wall and exhaled lightly.
Indeed, Anna Beth surprised her. Any other person would’ve gone to Aaron because of who he was, but she actually made such a scene?
Just thinking about the horrified look on Aaron’s face when she walked out to see what was happening almost made her laugh.
Pushing what happened to the back of her mind, she leaned off of the wall and closed the distance between them with a straight face.
“Still… I’m not going to sabotage him simply because I fear what he might do to me.”
Julius didn’t raise his head as he began to type on his phone.
“This isn’t sabotage, Amber. This is damage control. So he’d know his actions aren’t without consequences.”
“It’s the only thing men like him truly understand. Do nothing, and he’ll think it’s normal to walk all over you like a doormat.”
The second he finished talking, she reached out and snatched the phone from his grasp, immediately earning a disapproving frown from him.
“What are you doing?”
“Aaron Foster is scared of me, that’s why he came to poach Anna. Most importantly, he can’t seem to find any dirt on me to ruin this film’s reputation.” She stopped talking, held the phone delicately with two fingers, and began to wave it around gently.
“If you do this, you’ll change that and it’ll only be a matter of time before he finds out what you did and spin it around to make it sound terrible to netizens. When that happens, there will be no future for this film.”
“That being said, I can’t let you do this. Insist, and I’ll make it known online that you’re no longer part of my team. When the repercussions come, it won’t hit the film’s success.”
Julius pursed his lips and straightened up.
Of course, he disagreed with her stand, but he couldn’t deny that everything she mentioned was true.
A man like Aaron would have tried to dig something up on her and only resorted to this legwork when he couldn’t find anything tangible.
So he breathed out, “Okay.”
Only then did she hand back his back.
After the brief interruption, everyone got back to resting.
In a few minutes, the shooting continued, and by 6 p.m., they wrapped up.
They had completed about a third of the movie, and Amber, being in a good mood, had food and drinks delivered to the location.
As the others enjoyed themselves, Bryan walked up to her where she sat by the door.
“I’ve been a good boy in my acting, haven’t I?”
“You’ve been better than I expected,” she mummed without looking at him.
Scratching his shaved chin, he chuckled, “Usually, that would offend me, but it sounds like a compliment coming from you.”
Amber smiled as she watched the crew dancing in a circle.
But a few seconds later, she grimaced as his words settled in, recalling how their last conversation had ended.
“Bryan, I realize I couldn’t give you a response the other day, but the truth is…” She was about to tell him off when one of the cast members suddenly called out to them loudly.
“Don’t worry, I know I’ll change your mind soon,” Bryan quickly said with a smile and walked forward.
She sighed, touching the back of her neck tiredly before she followed after him.
A space beside Julius was made for her and she took her seat.
“Miss Hargrove, you’re already beautiful, smart, and intellectual, so I’m going to put you in my prayers… so you’ll marry a tall and handsome man.” One of the men sitting across slurred, raising his glass up for a toast.
Julius immediately choked on his drink. “What are you talking about? She’s…”
But the man immediately placed a finger on his lips and hushed him, “Shh… we know you’re not an item, so let me finish listing the good qualities of the man who’d marry her.”
Most of the crew were already drunk and slurring, so Amber didn’t think correcting them would help.
They were too far gone to think properly about whatever she had to say, so she simply chuckled in amusement.
“So he’s going to be tall. Really tall.” The man continued, drunkenly raising his arms as he exaggerated the height.
“He’d be wealthy too. And one of those dreamy men people go crazy about on the internet.”
Bryan, who was sitting beside him, frowned and slammed a hand on his head.
He was just half an inch shy of six feet, and hearing such exaggeration about height offended him, especially since he was already picturing himself with her.
“Shut up. This isn’t a novel.”
“Ouch, ouch! Bryan, you hit me so hard I’m now hallucinating the very man I described walking toward us.” The man winced painfully and held onto his head.
Surprised, everyone instinctively followed the direction he was looking at expecting to see no one.
Amber did the same and her jaw nearly dropped at the sight of Ezekiel.
He stopped behind her and leaned over to place a hand on her head, his face tightening in a frown.
“Wife, where did you keep your cell? I’ve been calling you all evening.”
