Chapter 59 The Best I’ve Ever Tasted
It felt so wrong for me to be doing this for a married man, but he looked better than when we dated.
Everything about Gianni’s life felt wrong, and it hurt that I couldn’t do anything about it.
From how he lived like a single dad to how he trained his son, the gap between us left me struggling to know him again.
The moment I saw him after bringing the soup, I knew it was a bad idea to be in his room at this time of night.
Things were not the same as before, and we had grown apart, but times like this brought back memories I always tried to forget.
Those abs were things I only saw in magazines. Wesley never had this kind of physique, and even for Gianni, it was something new.
The one time we made love was at night with the lights off, and he was gone the next morning, so I never saw him like this.
Everything inside of me screamed for me to leave to my room, but every excuse I tried to figure out only amounted to nothing, as Gianni seemed to be pushing my buttons, looking like he was enjoying it.
Why the heck did he even get drunk in the first place? Just as I thought I found a perfect means of escape, I never expected him to make another demand.
"Then take the soup with you if you won't help me with it." I froze in front of the door.
The soup would help him recover sooner since he returned drunk and threw up everything in his stomach.
Gianni left me at a time when I was not at my lowest, but he was there for me when I truly hit rock bottom. The least I could do was help him recover faster.
"Okay, I'll feed you since you don't want to use your hands," I teased, but he didn't seem bothered. Even without a smile, I felt at ease around him.
Sitting on the bed, his demeanor reminded me of his son, Roger. Like father, like son, as they say.
I picked up the soup and, after scooping a spoonful, I brought it to his lips, hoping he wouldn't act like a baby. Memories flooded back as soon as he opened his mouth.
I remembered the time he took me on a date and I spilled soup all over my dress because I couldn't take my eyes off him.
That was when we shared our first kiss after he helped me clean up and changed into a T-shirt the restaurant provided.
It was an embarrassing moment for me, but he made it unforgettable with his gentle words and actions.
"I love it. Did you make it yourself?" Gianni asked in an amused tone, pulling me out of my reverie.
"Yeah, is it bad?" I asked, fearing it wasn't up to par since he had a Michelin-star chef at home.
He might have been just saying he loved it to spare my feelings, but honesty shone in his eyes as he responded, "It's the best I've ever tasted."
Shaking my head, I knew he was just trying to make me feel good. "Stop lying to me," I pointed out, and he looked confused.
"I'm telling the truth. Do you want me to lie and say it's bad? Baby..." his fingers brushed my face, but I stopped him.
"You just called me baby. Did you forget you're married?" That was what he used to call me when we were dating but things were different now.
His earlier excitement faded, and he hesitated before taking the soup from me.
Scooping a spoonful, he fed himself and repeated the process three times before handing it back to me.
"Look, Molly, what makes this soup special is that it's really good, and you made it even when you were tired and still in your work clothes. I appreciate what you did for me."
His warm words caught me off guard. It was comforting to hear, especially considering how exhausted I felt.
"I'm glad you like it, but I've been meaning to ask," I said nervously, hoping he wouldn't be upset.
From my first day working with him, I realized he wasn't someone to cross, so I didn't want to overstep my boundaries.
"Don't get me wrong. I don't want to pry, but I can't help but wonder what led you to drink so much."
Sorrow flickered in his eyes briefly before disappearing, replaced by a lukewarm expression.
"Trust me, Molly, you wouldn't believe it if I told you. Maybe if you had come with me, you could have stopped me from drinking, don't you think?"
I had declined because I felt it was inappropriate, but how was I to know it was related to the company when he hadn't informed me?
The truth is, I want to build a better reputation for myself as my ultimate revenge against Wesley and Kiara.
Another scandal would only make me a laughingstock to them, but I wasn't sure if Gianni was considering that aspect, so I tried to explain as best as I could.
"Well, I didn't realize it was an official event. My job as a nanny is more important to me than anything else. If I have to attend an official event, I need prior notice. I don't like surprises."
He stared at me, a mix of shock and amusement on his face, before leaning in. What was he trying to do?
