Chapter 24 Fifteen Minutes
Molly’s POV
Reencountering Wesley and Kiara was not the highlight of my day. The two seemed like a perfect match, though their affection was a bit nauseating.
They both appeared insecure, finding solace in each other's company. I couldn't help but notice Kiara's lingering glances at Gianni.
Unfortunately for her, Gianni was a married man with a rebellious son.
What added a touch of humor to the situation was Wesley's inquiry about whether I had cheated on him.
He may have wished me ill, but life had only improved for me since parting ways with him.
I had no intention of groveling or begging for his forgiveness, but
I couldn't leave behind my valuable jewelry and clothes, especially the ones gifted to me by my late parents on various occasions.
Among them were precious photos that held sentimental value, serving as a connection to my parents.
As this would be my final visit to Wesley's old house, I needed to retrieve them all.
Gianni was preoccupied, and I initially hesitated to involve him, but he insisted, saying, "I will go with you."
I noticed Wesley's gaze darken, realizing he needed to call an ambulance before risking losing his arm.
It was comforting to have someone other than my parents stand up for and protect me.
"You're busy and just had an emergency call. Trust me, I'll handle it quickly and be waiting for you at home," I reassured Gianni.
He already did enough by teaching these two the difference between a real man and a man with just an organ.
Meeting Wesley again after these few days, he was not a man as compared to Gianni, and sadly, he couldn’t even protect his woman.
"At home?" Wesley's voice trembled as he inquired, and I was annoyed that he was eavesdropping on our conversation.
"No one is talking to you," I snapped, grabbing Gianni's arm and pulling him away, aware of their curious gazes on us.
Gianni opened the passenger side door for me, but I declined to sit. "I'll take a cab. You go ahead," I insisted, but he wasn't listening.
"Sit down. I brought you here, and I'll take you wherever you need to go," Gianni insisted.
His words touched me, but I couldn't shake the guilt creeping into my heart, feeling like I was burdening him.
Time was a precious commodity he shouldn't waste on me, but his determined gaze left me unable to argue with him. After providing him with directions to Wesley’s former residence, he drove without asking any questions, fielding more calls along the way.
Some he answered, while others he ignored. I assumed he did so because he was receiving the calls through the dashboard and didn’t want me to overhear the conversations.
The security at the gate allowed us entry upon seeing me, which made me wonder if Wesley hadn’t informed them of our divorce.
I had prepared numerous excuses for gaining access, but they all seemed unnecessary now.
"I'll retrieve the items and be out shortly," I informed Gianni who was engaged in another call.
Despite his focus on the call, I still seemed to have his attention.
"Hold on," he said, muting the call before turning to me. "Wait, I'm coming with you."
I didn't know how to introduce him, so I refused, saying, "No need. I will be out before you know it."
Hastening into the house where I was called home, I heard him speak from a distance,
"If you are not out in fifteen minutes, nothing will stop me from coming in there."
A smile stretched across my lips, knowing that somebody cared about my well-being. I could make it within the timeframe.
I was glad when I saw him return to answering his call, hoping he would talk longer and not pressure me to get my stuff.
The door was opened, and without looking left or right, I rushed up the stairs, ignoring the unkempt state of the house.
I guessed they were still waiting for me to clean it because Wesley was not ready to invest in domestic workers.
Everything in the bedroom was just as I left it, indicating that Wesley had not been to this house since then.
I picked up a duffle bag and carefully wrapped my most treasured dresses before putting them in there.
Giovanni doesn't joke with his time, so I knew fifteen minutes meant exactly fifteen. After getting the dresses, I picked up the jewelry box and headed out.
I planned to inform Wesley to get rid of the other items as I wouldn't be needing them anymore.
However, as soon as I reached downstairs, the faces I didn't want to see were all waiting for me.
