Chapter 21 Why are you late?
Molly’s POV
After spending the day at Gianni’s office, I realized a few things from his interaction with Marie. The first thing that struck me was his statement,
“You know what I hate and did exactly that. The moment you begin to lie, you lose your accreditation. I can’t work with you anymore.”
This made me realize that every question Gianni avoided answering was likely because he didn't want to lie to me.
However, it also made me feel like he was withholding information because he thought I wouldn't like the answer.
Various worst-case scenarios started playing in my mind, but I tried to push them aside.
Why did I even care about what he did with his life? He had promised to help me, and that should be enough.
When we arrived at Roger’s school, I noticed a change in his mood. I wondered if something had upset him, but as soon as I stepped out of the car to greet him, he frowned and brushed past me.
“Roger, is everything alright?" I asked, concerned about his well-being and eager to offer assistance, but he snapped back,
"Don't think I like you. I don't. Your responsibility is only to prepare me for school, not to stick your nose into my affairs."
"Roger, if you..." Gianni's voice sounded threatening, so I interrupted him, saying,
"Please let me handle it, Gianni."
However, he insisted, "No. He's my son. I got this."
I felt like the outsider I was, unsure why I desired a deeper connection with Roger beyond being just a nanny.
Realizing I had overstepped my boundaries, I decided to step back and allow the father and son to resolve their issues.
"You are right. I'm just an outsider," I admitted as I moved to the front passenger seat of the car, unlike the back where we all sat together in the morning like one big family.
The atmosphere was tense, and the silence lingered as we drove home, unlike the morning when we all sat together in the back seat.
Upon arriving home, I went to change and prepare to help Roger with his shower.
As I entered his room without knocking, I was startled to see spiders crawling over him.
Roger lay on his bed in his clothes from earlier, eyes closed and head tilted towards the ceiling.
I felt something cold on my foot as I was wearing flip-flops. Looking down, I couldn't help but let out a shrill scream, which seemed to startle Roger.
He quickly rushed over to where I stood at the entrance and picked up the white snake, gently caressing it.
"When did you get out of your cage, Ghost?" he said as he placed the snake back in its cage and then turned to glare at me. "You should have knocked."
The door opened behind us, and Gianni appeared. "What happened? I heard you scream."
"Nothing. I should have knocked. Roger, let me help with your bath," I said, quickly making my way to the bathroom to wait for him.
As I took a moment to look around, I couldn't help but cringe at my surroundings.
This boy was so strange, and if it were up to me, I would never set foot in his room again.
After that, everything was fine, and we had dinner in silence. The next morning, we dropped Roger off at school and stopped by Gianni's office before heading to the divorce court.
I stuck to my decision from the day before and sat in the front seat of the car, which pleased Roger. I intended to maintain some distance for now, as long as it kept him happy.
“Good morning, Don. I'm Agatha, your new secretary. HR sent me here," a vibrant, blonde, young woman introduced herself.
Without sparing her a glance, Gianni inquired, "Are you a transfer or a new recruit?"
"I'm a transfer, sir," she promptly replied.
"In that case, I assume you know the rules?” Gianni asked, she maintained a cute smile as she interacted with him.
"Of course. Black coffee, no sugar, no milk, keep the cigar chest stocked, and the liquor cabinet filled,” she recited like an army recruit, I was stunned, only remembering Gianni had dropped his cigar when we were talking before.
I hated the scent of tobacco so could it be his reason for not smoking in front of me? During the times we dated, we never smoked so what came over him?
"No visitors without approval, documents ready within 24 to 48 hours, no eavesdropping, no non-work-related questions, and no calls during work hours,” Agatha continued reciting the rules.
"Good, Meet Molly. She’ll be coming here a lot, and the rules don't apply to her," Gianni said sternly, I was surprised, wondering what else would keep bringing me to his office when the divorce is granted.
"Yes, sir," Agatha stared at me in a way that made me wonder if she knew me from before. Perhaps from the rumors.
"Check the server and continue where Marie left off. Email any questions, and only call if urgent," Gianni said finally.
"Got it," she responded.
When we arrived at the court, Gianni was about to accompany me inside, but I stopped him. "Please let me handle this on my own," I said.
He didn't respond and instead sat back in the car. I had a feeling he wouldn't let me be. Upon reaching the divorce judge's office, I found Wesley and Kiara furious at the waiting area.
"We've been waiting for over thirty minutes. Why are you late?" Kiara's hands were already raised, poised to strike me, but before I could react, she was on the floor, and Wesley was glaring at me.
I turned around to see Gianni standing behind me. I knew he wouldn't stay put.
