Chapter 12 I hope you don’t regret this one day
Molly’s POV
I felt embarrassed to be caught eavesdropping, but I doubted that Roger would apologize to me. From the look of things, his hostility was not just towards me, so I figured I wasn’t wrong.
The boy had a misanthropic disorder, so I would have to work a little harder at making him understand things from my perspective.
“I won’t apologize, but I won’t do it again,” he said, glaring at me, but his father did not seem to be on par with his decision.
“Then you don’t get your spiders back.”
I saw Roger’s eyes turn red and realized that love could not be forced. “You can give him back his spiders. Not doing it again is enough for me,” I said, regretting it soon after when I saw a smirk form at the corner of his lips.
Did the boy trick me? Perhaps his father knew him better. “Great, I’m calling the animal control agency now.”
“No, please don’t,” Roger cried. I was helpless and pulled Gianni to the side. Gosh, why did he have to still be in his boxers?
“Gianni, please, he’s still young, and forcing him to warm up to me would not help,” I said in a whisper. But seeing the look in his eyes, he was rather upset.
“He did wrong and needs to apologize for it. How long are you going to allow people to take advantage of you?”
The annoyance in his tone made me nervous as I realized the truth in his words.
However, it wasn't always like this. It all stemmed from my fall from grace.
"Roger is your son, and much of his personality seems to be inherited from you. Please allow me to handle things my way, and if it doesn't work out, I will rely on you," I expressed.
He was displeased but did not refuse. "I hope you won't regret this decision one day, Molly. I need to get ready for work, and you should do the same," he reminded me.
Gianni kept pushing for the divorce, but I desired it more than anything because my peace of mind hinged on my phone being switched off.
I wasn't prepared to face Wesley anytime soon, but due to the divorce, I had no choice.
"Okay," I replied.
After Gianni left and the door closed, Roger rushed into the shower room and locked himself in.
This situation was proving to be more challenging than I had anticipated.
"Roger, it's almost time for school. Please don't make things difficult for both of us. You promised to give me one month."
"Will you leave if I still don't like you after a month?" he asked from behind the shower room door. I agreed to his condition.
"Of course, but you have to behave. If you continue being difficult, I'll just stay to annoy you."
I heard him giggle from the other side of the door. "You're funny."
“I guess, so open the door and let me help you shower."
It took some time before the door finally flung open. "It doesn’t mean that I like you."
Roger was just four, but he was so scary when he talked like that. Blood was indeed thicker than water.
Helping with his shower was not easy because he was bent on taking me through the process by himself of how he wanted his shower taken with a weird temperature setting of the water.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t afraid he would get burned, but he enjoyed it, and after that, the air conditioner suffered because summer was already warm.
Roger was so cute by the time we were done after he chose a pair of white pants with a matching shirt and white sneakers.
He almost looked like his dad, except for his insistence on putting on sunglasses. Gosh, I would have taken a photo of him if I had my phone with me.
"You look superb," I complimented when I combed his hair, but he instantly messed it up, giving him a swag that was just hard to resist.
It was hard to believe that Roger was just four. "I know," he replied to my compliment unfazed, rather than saying thank you, but I smiled, not saying anything more.
"Pack my breakfast and lunch, Molly. I don’t want to eat at home," he said when he saw his father at the dining table, Gianni’s gaze was dark.
"She’s not your maid, Roger." But I signaled him to stop. It was enough that Roger had accepted me to be around him for a month.
“It's alright, Gianni. Roger would remember to add ‘please' next time," I hinted, causing the little boy to glare at me.
"That will never happen," he retorted.
I could see Gianni fuming, on the verge of exploding, but this was the son he raised and deserved what he was getting.
"Erica, please prepare Roger's breakfast and lunch. Molly, go get ready," Gianni said, diffusing the tension in the air.
Even with his eyes shielded behind sunglasses as he slung his backpack over his shoulder, it was clear that Roger expected me to fetch his food but I hastened upstairs to freshen up.
I tried to strike a balance between casual and formal, realizing that my sense of fashion had waned after two years of being a housewife, but I was grateful for Nora's taste in dresses.
The outfit was perfect for the occasion and inspired by Roger's sunglasses, I couldn't resist wearing a pair myself.
As we reached the car, both Gianni and I were taken aback by the words that came out of the mouth of a four-year-old.
