Chapter 94 He Won! He Achieved His Goal!
Grace felt down after hearing that.
She murmured, "Henry, if you really cared, how did we end up like this?"
She felt overwhelmed and couldn't go on.
She grabbed her purse to leave, but Henry gently held her hand, "Stay and finish this meal with me!"
Grace shook her head. "Henry, investing isn't for you. Take your time. I'm leaving."
Henry still held her hand, his gaze unreadable.
After a moment, as if after deep thought, he grabbed his coat and stood up. "I'll take you home!"
He was always assertive and wouldn't take no for an answer. He led Grace out of the private room and opened the door of the black Bentley for her in the parking lot.
In the passenger seat, curled up in a ball of white fur, was Sherry!
The small white dog was nestled on the leather seat, seemingly asleep. Hearing the noise, it lifted its head, slightly opened its dark eyes, and looked at Grace innocently.
Grace was consumed by a torrent of profound sorrow.
In that instance, she seemed to see herself, the one who yearned for Henry's return every night. The immense sadness overwhelmed her, making it hard to breathe. She didn't dare to look at Sherry any longer and hastily took a step back.
Standing in the night, she softly said to Henry beside her, "Henry, I want to go home by myself."
"What's wrong?" Henry took a step forward, trying to touch her shoulder.
But Grace reacted strongly, taking a big step back. Her body pressed against the black Bentley, her eyes moist as she quietly gazed at him.
"Don't come closer, Henry. Don't!" She lowered her eyes, gently steadied herself against the car, and then walked away from him step by step, her steps slightly unsteady, much like her tumultuous journey in love.
Tiny snowflakes drifted down from above, scattered and sparse. They landed on Grace's hair and shoulders.
She walked alone in the gentle snow, but even the soft snow couldn't soothe her inner pain. She mustered the courage to leave him, already halfway there, but Henry wouldn't let her go.
He treated her well, always appearing when she was sad.
The memories of loving him came back to life, attacking her repeatedly, making her flee in panic before him. She had once loved him bravely and fearlessly for six years, but now she didn't even dare to look at him.
"Grace!" Behind her, Henry called her name gently.
Grace stopped, lowered her eyes, and said sadly, "Henry, why did you buy it back? You know..."
"Know it looks like you, right?" Henry asked. He closed the car door, watching her back, his voice hoarse. "When Celeste brought it over, I thought it looked like you, and I liked it. Grace, you said you wanted to walk alone, so I'll let you go, but remember to call me when you get home, okay?"
Grace suddenly turned around, her eyes red as she looked at him.
Separated by a few feet and the gentle snow, they gazed at each other. There are no vows, only a broken three-year marriage between them and Grace's repeated disappointments in Henry.
Grace didn't go home; she went to Tranquil Heights.
When she got out of the taxi, the key in her palm was damp with sweat.
Henry had given her the key earlier. He said, "I passed by Tranquil Heights this morning and went in to take a look. The roses in the garden are blooming!"
Late at night, Tranquil Heights was half-covered in light snow, exuding a serene beauty.
Grace looked up and gazed. After a long time, she used the key to open the black wrought-iron gate. As she pushed the door open, small night lights lit up in the dark courtyard, illuminating the snowflakes like silk, dancing in the night sky.
Grace walked slowly along the gravel path. She noticed new potted plants in the garden, making it vibrant even in winter. A painting by Donna hung in the marble foyer.
The living room had been completely redone. The style was the same, but the furniture was new; even the carpet was replaced. A large mural hung behind the sofa.
In the mural, stars dotted the sky; on a summer night, young Grace slept soundly in a small tent.
Grace stared at it until her eyes stung, then quietly left. Outside, the snow had gotten heavier, falling on her eyelashes like feathers.
In the corner, a rose bush bent under the weight of the snow, its pale yellow petals looking even more delicate against the white.
After Grace left, Henry returned to the private room. Under the luxurious lights, he ate alone, expressionless. When he was almost done, Celeste came over.
Celeste handed him a report. "Mr. Cooper's latest analysis results! This is the bill sent by his assistant."
Henry gestured for Celeste to sit across from him.
He ate elegantly while reading Dr. Damon Cooper's psychological analysis of Grace. 'Worth every penny,' he thought.
After reading, Henry closed the report and said lightly, "Write a check and send it over, pay the balance!"
Celeste was surprised. "Mr. Montague, Mrs. Montague hasn't come back yet."
Henry looked up at Celeste.
Under the light, his gaze was inscrutable.
After a moment, he wiped his lips with a napkin and said calmly, "Grace will be back soon! The cooperation with Mr. Cooper is temporarily over."
Henry's certainty made Celeste's heart race.
As Celeste followed Henry out, she couldn't help but wonder if marrying Henry was a blessing or a curse for Grace.
Henry drove back to the villa.
The servants greeted him eagerly, but he was indifferent, not in the mood to respond.
He went to the study on the second floor, casually tossed the report and bill on the desk, then leaned back on the sofa, stretching his neck to relax.
Behind him, the floor-to-ceiling windows showed the snowflakes drifting, adding a touch of elegance to the night.
Henry missed Grace a little.
Grace's place was small but the sofa was soft. When she got drunk, she lay softly in his arms and slept all night. He vaguely remembered that since the Windsor family's incident, she had never been so close to him. In the past, she used to cling to him like Sherry.
Lost in thought, his phone rang. It was Grace calling.
Henry held the phone, slightly tilting his head, his Adam's apple moving involuntarily, "Are you at Tranquil Heights or home? If you're at Tranquil Heights, I'll come get you."
Grace was silent on the phone for a moment before speaking softly, "I'm home."
Henry smiled slightly. "Did you see it? Do you like it?"
Grace didn't answer.
Henry listened to the soft sound of her breathing, he sat up a bit. "Why are you crying? Should I come over?"
Grace murmured no.
Henry was a mature man, and after being married to Grace for a few years, he could hear the compromise in her words, and the call itself was her compromise.
Henry won, he achieved his goal, but he felt despicable.
He thought, it must be an illusion!
How could he feel sorry, feel despicable? Since childhood, Aurora had taught him to use any means necessary to get what he wanted.
But Grace was crying, he thought, maybe it's because he spent so much time with her, his heart had softened! It had nothing to do with love, just that after spending so much time together, some feelings had developed!
