Chapter 600 Mr. Windsor, Serafina is not in Evergreen City anymore
A knock came at the office door, followed by Anya's voice, "Mr. Windsor, you wanted to see me?"
Jacob's gaze remained fixed on the invitation as he spoke to Anya. "I need you to personally deliver this invitation to the Penrose Villa. Make sure it reaches Serafina directly—this is a promise I made to her."
Anya took the invitation, feeling genuinely shocked. Jacob and Serafina had been divorced for eight months now; by all accounts, he should have moved on.
Yet clearly Jacob hadn't let go. Was sending a wedding invitation meant to hurt her, or was it meant to hurt himself?
But as his subordinate, Anya knew better than to comment. She took the invitation and left to deliver it. She knew the location of the Penrose Villa where Serafina and Isadora had been living, but when she arrived, the staff informed her that Serafina had moved away months ago.
Anya stood there stunned—moved away months ago?
The villa's housekeeper was helpful, offering a suggestion: "Why don't you try Ms. Isadora Penrose's company? She would certainly know Ms. Serafina Isadora Penrose's whereabouts, or at the very least, she could forward the invitation."
Anya took the advice and headed to Isadora's company. Fortunately, Isadora agreed to see her.
Isadora was busy, still reviewing documents when Anya entered. Without looking up, she asked bluntly, "Jacob sent you?"
"Yes," Anya replied sheepishly.
Isadora finally raised her eyes to look at Anya. Seeing no point in beating around the bush, Anya retrieved the wedding invitation from her briefcase and offered it to Isadora.
But Isadora didn't take it immediately, instead asking coldly, "Is Jacob dead? Are you here to inform me of his demise? Though I should mention, my sister divorced him—they have no relationship whatsoever."
Anya had heard about Isadora's sharp tongue and was finally experiencing it firsthand. Steeling herself, she said, "It's Mr. Windsor's wedding invitation."
Only then did Isadora show interest, taking the invitation and flipping through it casually before remarking with indifference, "They've been divorced for ages—they're nothing to each other now. Jacob doesn't seriously think one invitation will make Serafina fall apart, does he? He thinks rather highly of himself. You can tell him to keep a low profile—if he keeps divorcing and remarrying, Serafina won't be able to afford all these wedding gifts at one invitation per year."
With swift movements, Isadora tore the invitation to shreds and tossed it into the wastebasket. "Tell Jacob that I have received his wedding invitation."
Anya stood speechless.
Six o'clock in the evening. Crimson clouds drifted across the sky, casting ethereal light that seemed to drape the world in a delicate veil of colored pearls—breathtakingly beautiful.
Anya returned to the Windsor Group and pushed open the door to the executive office.
Jacob stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, admiring the sunset in his crisp white shirt and black trousers. His striking features made even his silhouette flawless.
Despite his divorce, countless women still vied to become his next wife, yet he had chosen Chloe. He wondered if it was because Chloe was someone Serafina had met.
Jacob heard the footsteps but didn't turn around, speaking in an even tone, "Did she say anything when you delivered the invitation? I imagine her child must have been born by now."
Anya shook her head. "Mr. Windsor, Ms. Penrose isn't in Evergreen City."
Jacob slowly turned around, his deep eyes fixed steadily on Anya, his expression unreadable.
Anya briefly recounted what had happened, though she tactfully omitted Isadora's harsh words and the torn invitation.
Finally, she asked quietly, "Should we continue searching for Ms. Penrose's whereabouts, Mr. Windsor?"
Jacob turned back to face the window, watching the sunset. Any excitement he'd felt before Anya's return had completely vanished. He assumed Serafina must have gone to Harmony City to live with Floyd, though he wondered why they hadn't married yet. Perhaps Floyd's family disapproved.
Jacob stood there for a long time, until his eyes began to sting, before finally saying quietly, "No need."
Anya watched him, struck by how lonely his figure appeared—hardly like a groom about to be married, more like a man nursing a broken heart.
Reflecting on Jacob and Chloe's relationship over the past six months, she found it utterly lackluster. She couldn't sense any love from Jacob toward Chloe.
Anya hesitated, wanting to speak but holding back.
After Anya left, Jacob remained standing alone until his phone rang on the desk, snapping him back to reality. It was Chloe calling about her father's birthday dinner that evening, insisting that he, as her future son-in-law, must attend.
Jacob listened and replied coolly that he understood.
An hour later, Jacob drove to Chloe's home, bringing two bottles of rare wine to share with Chloe's father.
When the black Rolls-Royce pulled up, Jacob looked up at the Moore family house, inevitably thinking of Serafina's family background.
In all honesty, Chloe's family was far superior to Serafina's. Chloe was an only child from the harmonious Everhart family—such stable households produced children with stronger inner resilience.
Jacob thought to himself: marrying Chloe would be good.
He didn't immediately get out of the car, instead lighting a cigarette in the driver's seat. As pale blue smoke rose, Jacob's mind wandered not to his charming fiancée Chloe, but to that snowy day when Serafina had walked away with her pregnant belly and drooping shoulders. The more he thought about it, the more bitter the nicotine tasted.
The Everhart family's staff spotted his car and hurried to inform Chloe. "Mr. Windsor has arrived."
The Moore Mansion's living room was filled with guests—all close relatives who had come to meet Jacob as well.
Upon hearing the announcement, the women immediately urged Chloe, "Go greet Jacob quickly."
With a touch of shyness, Chloe walked to the driveway. When she arrived, Jacob's car door was open, one long leg extended outside as he held half a cigarette between his elegant fingers, smoking quietly. The evening light made his handsome features even more striking, and Chloe's heart raced involuntarily as she approached.
She was fond of Jacob—his looks, his status, the feeling of standing beside him, and especially the sound of being called Mrs. Windsor. In just over two weeks, she would be Jacob's wife.
Joy filled Chloe's heart.
"Jacob," she called to him affectionately.
Jacob's mind was elsewhere, and he looked toward Chloe somewhat absently. In the twilight, she wore a black Chanel suit remarkably similar to the one Serafina had worn on their blind date.
Jacob found himself saying, "Serafina."
